Let me start by saying this, Merumalia is not your average wine tour! This wine resort in the volcanic hills of Frascati is thoughtfully curated and put together. This is the definition of a family business! My girlfriend and I were picked up from the Frascati train station by Giulia’s dad, Luigi. While on the short 5 minute ride to Merumalia, he gave us great background on the small town and its villas that were owned by wealthy Italian families many years ago. As we approached Merumalia, we were greeted by Achille, the winery family-dog who gracefully watches over the property and it’s grapes. Luigi has a wealth of knowledge and loves to share it! I will definitely approach drinking wine differently now. He tested us on what we like about the wine; the taste, the smell, was it summer or spring, wide or narrow, etc. We then paired the wine with food and saw what pairings worked best. The only feedback I have is I wish the wine tour was longer and that we were able to walk though the vineyards. Luigi did mention if we came a couples weeks later, we would have seen the full production of the wine. Overall, this was a great experience and the attention to detail by Luigi and Giulia was great. The wine was excellent, but I’m leaving this tour with a deeper understanding of their family story and the inspiration behind the wine. Side note: Giulia gave us amazing recommendations for the remainder of our trip! I will be recommending Merumalia to my friends and family :)

While visited Rome , I decided to sleep in Frascati, a very nice small city with a lot a history and nice historical villas to visit. This place is wonderful, I really enjoied the surrondings and the owners are really nice persons the lady also was so kind for waitting for me to arrive as my plane has been delayed , thank you sow much ☺️. The room was very clean and breakfast really good. The patistry is home made and also is the gem. You can not leave the place without at least a bottle of olive oil and of course some wine (both BIO / vegan) wich I can not wait to taste at home.

We loved that the property had its winery that we saw the production in action. The apartments are charming, well maintained and had all of the amenities you would need. The place is family owned, so they were there if you needed anything. They had set up a cooking class for my daughter and me with a local chef from Belvedere Restaurant (an absolute must), and it was incredible, especially the pairings of the wine from the vineyards. My only regret is not to have purchased bottles of wine and olive oil to take back.

We wanted to experience authentic Italy and quality wine. Merumalia in Frascati was an excellent choice. Not far from Rome, yet far enough to be relaxing. Giulia and her family have created a lovely oasis where they are producing excellent organic wines. The rooms are spacious and reasonably priced. We are glad we decided to rent a car from Rome. This enabled us to drive all around the lakes, tasting our way through this region. We could shop for local produce and visit the little villages. You will feel welcome by the family at Merumalia.

I cannot express how much we enjoyed our experience at the Merumalia Wine Resort! Giulia and her family were extremely welcoming and full of knowledge which made it an unforgettable experience. The vineyard had stunning views, amazing wine pairings with local bread, cheese, and salami. After the tour/tasting for an additional charge, we had a delicious private dinner on the property. This was by far the highlight of our 5 night stay in Italy. Overall I highly recommend this as it is super convenient to get to from the city of Rome. We left with two bottles of wine that we purchased directly from them! Will be back one day to visit Rome and especially this vineyard!
