I was a guest at Le Pianore for a few days last July, while on a mini tour of Tuscany by myself, and I'm really happy i made the stop. Even before arriving at the agriturismo, it was impossible not to be amazed at the beauty of the surrounding mountains and valleys. At the property, I was greeted with courtesy and professionality, and shown to one of the rooms, which was very tastefully put together. The next couple days I spent completely immersed in nature, in blissful relaxation. Taking walks in the woods, reading, fighting the heat in the pool, and enjoying the delightful company of the hosts. All while enjoying some superb cuisine by chef Marcello, washed down with delicious local red wine. ITo anyone looking these kind of pleasures, I would definitely recommend a stop at Le Pianore!

This is an outstanding venue with organic farm to table authentic Italian food, wine and olive oil. We stayed here for a week on a yoga retreat but it is open to the public to just book rooms and enjoy the stunning land. Beautiful any time of year. In October we enjoyed forest walks and bathing in all the nature. The staff are so helpful and cannot do enough for the guests. It is wonderful.

I would describe myself as well travelled and I have to share how much Le Pianore exceeded all my expectations.

I fell in love with the whole vibe of this location and the host Elena and Enrica who couldn't be more accommodating.

The food is fresh and delicious. You can tell it's been prepared with 'love' by Rena the wonderful chef. It's apparent the ingredients are fresh and have only been hand picked on the day.

The rooms are rustic and boast their own charm with spectacular views any which way you turn. I specially like the yoga barn which has a spacious space to practice your discipline.

This venue is the perfect place to retreat, unwind and take in nature at its finest, whilst being taken care of by the most heartfelt people. I assure you that your experience will be memorable and special. I'm on my third visit and plan to go back every year. It's like going home and seeing my family. I love it <3

Grazie. Grazie. Grazie mille. The place is magic itself, we only add a little of our human possibility. There are oaks 500 years old. They have seen a lot and they have a lot to say. The beauty of the valley is the magic. And we drink this beauty every day, and that is why we have the energy to flow in beauty and peace. Thank you again for your stay at le Pianore, and hugs to you Elena

I stayed at Le Pianore on a yoga retreat by Rolling Meadows. Le Pianore is a lush complex with hills and pastures. Most days two white horses graze in the meadows. When you don't expect them, their appearance seems magical! My room had a private terrace, its own bathroom, and a sitting area. It was very comfortable and more than what might be expected on a retreat. I can't say enough good things about Elena, the owner, Enrica, her daughter, and Rina, the chef with a magical and nourishing touch. Every diet request was met with a can do attitude. Everyone was very accommodating and gracious. You can take some lovely walks to the surrounding villages, churches, and streams! I didn't get into the lap pool as inviting as it looked. It was raining most days, allowing for some spectacular rainbows! I would love to go back!!! Thank you, Elena for creating this magical space.

I preface this review by stating that I have traveled all over the world and have stayed in some remote locations in Eastern and Southern Africa as well as in the Middle East. This is also the first review I've ever written. I typically do not write reviews and prefer to address any concerns with the hotel or resort directly. I felt a need to write this review to warn others about that which I did not know when I booked the trip. Le Pianore is by far the worst accommodations that I've ever stayed in my life. The owners take advantage of the location (remote hills of Tuscany) and the availability of a yoga studio to charge exorbitant prices while failing to do even the minimal to maintain the property.

To start with, the entire property is ridden with insects. There were insects in the pool, insects that swarmed at meals and insects in our room. The Ownership did nothing to try to contain the infestation. We stayed at the Owner's home in a room that was marketed as a quad, but was actually comprised of two half twin beds and a double bed. The beds were extremely hard and uncomfortable. There were cracks in the floor boards, which made the floor unstable when we walked on it and also allowed insects to come in from underneath (slugs, crickets, spiders and the like). There was no air-conditioning or fans which meant we had to sleep with the windows open which allowed more bugs to come in. Our room was cleaned once during our weekly stay and there was an inadequate supply of fresh towels. There was no curtain on the window of the bathroom to provide privacy. There was no lock on the door so we felt the need to take our belongings when we left the room. To get from our property to the main property, we had to walk down a dirt road (20 minute walk) which was the same road that cars drove down. To get a ride to the main property, we had to hope that the Owners were available. There was no plan or communication system to alert the staff when we needed a ride.

In addition, the location of the farm is very remote. It is not easy to get to towns and cities such as Florence, Siena, etc. without your own car. The Owner offered to drive us (charged us the same as a professional limo service) yet provided cars that lacked seatbelts, air conditioning or shocks. There is very little to do on the property, which necessitates the need to leave especially during the hot summer days. Others on our trip had similar poor accommodations: wasps swarmed in showers; mattresses on the floor above the yoga studio was sold as a quad room; and there was flooding in the bathroom in one of the rooms.

I didn't expect to encounter worse conditions in Tuscany than I've encountered in the most remote parts of this world. This could be a delightful place but the ownership clearly has no interest in investing in the upkeep of the property.

Response from LePianore, Direttore at Agriturismo Le Pianore
Responded Dec 29, 2015
Dear C and R, First and foremost it is a huge disappointment for me that your stay at Le Pianore was unsatisfactory. It is also truly regrettable that you did not communicate this to me during your stay with us. In your review you say that you typically “prefer to address any concerns with the hotel or resort directly”, and yet you didn’t raise any of the issues you mention with us while you were here. Why not? I assure you we would have done everything within our means to positively transform your experience. In stark contrast to our other reviews on this platform, which are overwhelmingly positive, your review came as quite a shock. It seems clear to me that a classic “resort” hotel with mod cons, air conditioning, daily towel changes, proximity to a big city, and standard facilities and amenities would have been a more suitable choice for your holiday -- and not a rural yoga retreat on an organic farm in the beautiful mountains of Southern Tuscany, which is exactly what Le Pianore is. Yes, our farm is remote -- our location is a huge draw, and is one of the main reasons yoga teachers seek us out and choose to host their yoga retreats here. It allows people to disconnect from the frenzy of their lives and find a gentler rhythm in sync with the natural beauty around them. Mostly our guests choose to immerse themselves in nature and dedicate time to their yoga practice, whilst enjoying the simple pleasures of Italian country life, such as exploring the farm and estate, soaking up the summer sunshine, swimming in the pool, dipping in the river, going for walks in the forest and enjoying our organic wine and cuisine. No-one else has ever complained that “There is very little to do on the property, which necessitates the need to leave especially during the hot summer days”, which suggests that your comment probably reveals more about your misaligned expectations than it does about our property. Our website explicitly states that “it is highly recommended that you have your own vehicle”. When you wrote to me, only a few days prior to your arrival, requesting a private driver for every day of your yoga retreat, I should have sensed that your expectations for your trip were not in sync with the nature of our property and not aligned with the yoga retreat organised by your teacher. I contacted several local car companies to try to secure a driver for you, but not surprisingly none were available given the last minute nature of your request during peak summer season. So I offered you the use of one of our farm vehicles and driver instead. This is not something we usually do, but I wanted to do whatever it takes to satisfy your request. I really wish you had expressed your discomfort with the car arrangement during your stay, as you were under no obligation to continue using the service, and we would have moved mountains to provide a satisfactory alternative, had we known. It is important to clarify for the record that the dirt road you refer to in your review “which was the same road that cars drove down” is a private road linking our two villas, not a through road. It doesn’t get any external traffic other than our family and farm vehicles. Moreover, it is a picturesque cypress-laned country road flanked by forest and vineyards on one side, and olive groves on the other. It provides some of the best views on the property, so we and our guests often stroll along it in a leisurely fashion. But even at a very modest pace, it shouldn’t take more than 10-15 minutes to cover the full 900m (948 yards) between the two villas. That being said, your comfort is our priority and had you expressed your feelings of being stranded to us at the time, we could have resolved the matter promptly by making a few simple arrangements. This year we were blessed with a glorious spring, followed by a wonderfully hot and thankfully not too dry summer. These are the conditions under which life thrives and nature becomes abundant. We are seeing it in the excellent grape harvest which is currently in full swing -- and you experienced it in the form of insect life earlier in the season. While we try to work with nature on our organic farm rather than against it, we cannot control it. I am genuinely sorry for any discomfort caused by the insects. However, saying that “the entire property is ridden with insects” is an unfair exaggeration, and ignores the fact that my staff and I spent many hours late into the night trying to deal with the issue using methods in line with the standards of organic certification. So your claim that the “ownership did nothing to try to contain the infestation” is simply not true. With regards to prices, it should be noted that you did not book your stay with us directly, but rather through your yoga teacher as part of a retreat package including classes and group excursions. Our rates are public and can be consulted directly on our website, and anyone with experience in this industry will be able to corroborate the fact that we are a mid-range property with competitive rates. I have invested the last 25 years in creating and building Le Pianore, and this includes constant and ongoing yearly investments in infrastructure, staff and maintenance. As the reviews here testify, we have had many happy guests staying with us over the years and this has been a great source of pride and joy as well as inspiration to continue growing and improving the dream we have for our farm. I am deeply sorry that your stay with us was not as you expected, but it seems the true causes of your disappointment are perhaps better reflected in my reply above, than in your review. Sincerely, Elena Basile

I just came back from a 5 days Yoga retreat at Le Pianore. I don't think I can find the right words to describe my experience, but I will try.
Our host, Elena, is just one of the most loving, caring and fun human being that you can hope to find when you go travelling. The location is simply amazing, it offers great rooms, delicious food, and a lot of activities suitable for any kind of traveller. You can easily go for super scenic hikes, drive to nearby hotsprings, visit wine, cheese, and olive oil producers, explore the neighbouring charming little towns, or simply chill by the swimming pool. The rates are very reasonable, and absolutely worth it. Please don't miss this gem. I am very grateful for these few days.
Also, at Le Pianore they are used and able to host retreats - whether it's a Yoga, or Tango, or meditation retreat, it will be hosted with the maximum flexibility and professionalism. Thank you Elena and your beautiful family!
A special mention to Rina, the chef. You are like a mamma in the kitchen, making food seem so simple yet so perfect and healthy. Grazie!

I had the pleasure of spending a week at Le Pianore for a yoga retreat. It was a magical, one of a kind place with awe-inspiring mountain vistas, historic stone buildings dating back centuries, inviting reading spots with hammocks and easy chairs that called out to you to relax, take a moment, and be inspired by the nature and history. If you listen closely you can almost hear the whisper of the sacred history calling you. The resort is owned and run by a family who loves Mother Earth and takes extra care in the organic produce, olive oil and wine that they produce. This beautiful property with babbling brooks, hiking, vineyards, swimming pool and historic stone buildings makes you wish you could stay forever. Meals were unique, healthy and delicious and we loved our wine tasting and pasta cooking class. The family is delightful and you know that they love what they do and pour their hearts into it. I left a piece of my heart in heavenly Le Pianore and hope to return.

I have been vacationing and working in Italy for two decades and only recently found Le Pianore. It was enough to be stunned by the beauty of the region, and then of this small part of the region, but once I arrived, I began to experience the services and amenities this agriturismo provides and I was overwhelmed. Elena and her staff seemed to know what me and my partner needed before we did. We were greeted warmly and swiftly brought to our room to rest and collect ourselves. When we re-emerged we were greeted again by the Pugliese chef's magnificent baked goods. After a late breakfast outdoors with a view from above of the sprawling estate, we took a walk down the long path lined with soaring cypresses, past the vineyards, to a wooded area where there were horses. We walked on a path through the cool woods, followed it up the hill and gathered flowers along the way, and found our way back to the main lodgings. We met some of the staff collecting berries in a net under a tree--berries that later the chef made into a breakfast tart. Our day was lazy and peaceful. We swam in the pool, explored the property more, read outside in the shade, and ate fantastic meals -- even the simplest of dishes were carefully prepared and flavorful. Some of the best Pugliese and Tuscan cooking I've had, and an interesting mix of the two, at times. The farm's wine is delicious and plentiful as well.

Elena is also a sincere and generous person. We got to know her during our stay (although she seemed to know exactly when we wanted to keep to ourselves) and learned she has a great sense of humor. She also has a very interesting family history.

This was my third time here and it won't be my last. It's very easy to grow attached.
