I reserved a seaview room which ended up to be on the second floor. The room itself is quite large and the view was nice and the private ensuite bathroom was also clean and modern. As this is a guesthouse, there is a shared kitchen. There was a fridge, microwave, stove, oven, washing machine, and hair dyer. There was also some sort of compost which could have had some instructions on how to use it. What needs much improvement is the soundproofing. Every time someone opens the entrance, it is like a wind tunnel in the hallway. I also couldn't figure out why the wind noise wouldn't stop after I checked that the entrance was closed. I'm guessing it's a mixture of doors and windows be open. As the large group who overtook the kitchen for the whole night went to sleep, even the wind noise ended. I'm not sure why that party was split between the ground floor and the 2nd floor, but it would be better for the other guests if they were contained on one level so the rest of us could have a kitchen to use and some peace and quiet. …
Great guesthouse in Skagaströnd, beautiful surroundings and a very friendly and helpful host. The rooms are very nice and clean and the view is so wonderful. Access to a fully equipped kitchen. I reccomend a stay there if you are traveling in northen Iceland.
Although located 15 kilometers away from the Ring Road, the stay on this guesthouse is totally worth. Big, with modern decoration, bright and clean ensuite rooms, all of them provide full views to the sea or to the mountains behind. A fully-equipped kitchen on every floor (washing and dryer machine included) allows all guests to enjoy a comfortable diner or a breakfast prepared by themselves. Personally, I would like to thank sincerely the hospitality and the kindness of Julian, who showed us the whole estabilshment and was there the next morning to say goodbye, and all the staff, who made a gesture with us as we were celebrating our honeymoon, we appreciated it really much and will book there again, if we have the chance to come back.
We were greeted when we arrived by Klara, who showed our room and the kitchen area. Klara also gave us local hints and tips on where to go. The room itself was comfortable and the shared kitchen area had everything you could need for a short or long stay. We weren’t exactly sure what to expect but I can easily say we were pleased with our stay here. The biggest plus was the service provided by Klara, she took care of everything we needed, we would stay here just based on her service.
We weren't expecting much having experienced a few guesthouses so far on our trip. However our communications via email and phone were great. Our expectations did not improve as we drove to the end of town and arrived at a plain looking building. But inside - wow. Nice big room with view over the harbour. The room was comfortable with a good bathroom and wonderful shower. heated floors were so nice after a day out in the cold and wet. There was a nice big kitchen and the real treasure, a washing machine and drier :-) Really the best accommodation we stayed in during our 16 days in Iceland. The fact we had the whole top floor to ourselves was an added bonus. There are shops close by and a local warm swimming pool about 200m down the road. If there were any downsides it would be having to carry bags up the stairs and we couldn't find anyway to turn the room temp to anything below 24 C.…
Host was very welcoming. Good kitchen to use to cook. Room was basic, but with a relatively new bathroom (and good shower). Bed was very comfy. Good place to stay for 1 or 2 nights while moving through iceland.
I was a little worried about this spot because there were so few reviews, but it was a great stay. We ended up with larger "family rooms" than we had booked, but without the extra space the rooms would still have been perfect. Good sized bathrooms with excellent hot water, comfy beds, and everything seemed new and well-kept. Each floor had a well-appointed shared kitchen where we stored our groceries and made breakfast. The views over the fjord were gorgeous, and the property manager was lovely.
Salthus guesthouse is located on one end of Skagaströnd town, and provides great views of the bay and North Atlantic Ocean. Sunset over the ocean is mystical watching from the warmth of the room, if it is located on the upper floor and with a "mountain view". Or just walk 2 minutes outside the hotel, and you are at the viewing area. The guesthouse manager, Mr. Hrafnhildur Sigurdardottir, proactively reached out to us and provided us information on the process to get the keys to the room. He wanted to ensure that we were not left stranded, as we potentially could reach outside the reception hours. He also provided us detailed directions, and landmarks. And he also shared the different sights, trails, and restaurants in and around Skagaströnd. The room was spacious, beds were soft, linen clean and spanking new, and the whole space was kept clean. In the hallway to the room, we noticed that they had photographs from various guests of the importance of nature, water preservation, and personal importance of water in various cultures. Something unique and enlightening! The primary purpose of our Iceland trip this time around was Aurora Borealis, and though we could not watch it from the room and even close by. We had to drive out of town for about 10 minutes to block out most man-made light pollution to get clear views of the Northern Lights. Still, it was worth staying that far out. If Northern Lights, nature, and hikes are your forte (in essence Iceland), then Salthus Guesthouse should be on the list of places to stay to enjoy Skagaströnd.…
