Located in Blonduos , in Iceland outskirts most accomudations are " guesthouses " with a common kitchen enabling you to cook 1 or 2 simple dish . Building may look unimpressive from outside but internal the rooms are great.......comfy n clean. Its located besides the Sea , slightly hilly and a great place to view the Aorora / northern lights , which we did saw at around 11pm to 12pm, while waiting in frezzing cold of -5° but it was worth it.

We stayed one night in a ground floor room overlooking the parking lot. This was convenient for suitcases but we had absolutely no view. It was cold and rainy and it would have been nice for some kind of water view with comfortable chairs available for all guests. The room was very basic. The family sharing the kitchen on the other side of our bedroom wall made a tremendous amount of noise but thankfully they quieted down by the time we went to bed. We had a huge problem with the shower which immediately flooded the bathroom and part of the sleeping area. We had no equipment to clear out the water ourselves and called the number that came with the room instructions. After about 15 minutes a woman arrived in boots and with the necessaries to take care of the flood. She said she found tons of hair in the drain, as if someone had a haircut. She also said that we were "lucky" this happened today because the week before she was someplace else. We were left wondering what we would have done if she hadn't been available as the bathroom was unusable. We were glad we were only staying one night.

For the price, the location is acceptable and the self-check in was ok. The rooms are super modern and clean, no frills. Shower is excellent and the bottom rooms even had outside door that made carrying our bags inside easier. Good place to stop enroute to Diamond Circle or when coming back. Don't expect any service or anything here. They had a full kitchen though where you can cook your own stuff. Great panoramatic view from the backyard, sunset looks amazing from there.

Fantastic location close to the sea with great views and walks. Comfy room an good bed to sleep on. Also the restaurant nearby was good. As we were interested to see birds, it was great to have a walk to the sea and enjoy the lovely evening with lots of birds and beautiful flowers blooming around. Would love to come back here!

The owner is one of the rudest people I have ever dealt with! Thoroughly recommend you stay elsewhere.

Response from Hrafnhildur Sigurðardóttir, Owner at Salthus Guesthouse
Responded Apr 4, 2023
Dear R7418AJlucyn. I am afraid that your review is not very helpful to us and therefore hard to answer, as you do not state what your direct problem with the owner was. I am the owner and I make a point of always being helpful and courteous to my guests and I have never had a fallout with a guest. I was not at the Salthús at the end of March, which is when I am assuming you stayed with us, so this is hard for me to figure out. The only thing I can think of is that you may be a guest who wanted a refund on a non-refundable booking, or that you got us confused with a guesthouse with a similar name. Anyway, I hope you had a wonderful trip in Iceland with many wonderful hosts, and I wish you a safe journey home. Best regards Hrafnhildur Sigurðardóttir Salthús Guesthouse Skagaströnd

My husband and I two adult daughters did a self driving tour of Iceland May 2022. My daughter got sick along the way and we drove directly to Salthus, arriving in late morning, well before official check-in time. In talking with manager she was very understanding and hurried to ready our rooms and let us check in early. The rooms were basic but very clean and there is a small kitchenette we could use. The manager checked-in with us and helped us navigate how to get information about the Iceland healthcare system. She even let us do a load of wash. Its a lovely quiet location and we were able to go on a nice hike right out their door while my daughter rested in her room for most of our stay.

Great location with an awesome view! There was a shared kitchen and washer/dryer area as well. Beds were comfortable, and the chair in my room saved my back - I'll explain lol The travel agency we used to book our hotels during our 2022 trip failed to give the correct info - as there were two of us, we had requested two twins instead of one double. This was not communicated to the hotel, and unfortunately, we were stuck in a room with one bed. Lucky for me, the chair in the room had a detachable backing/cushion portion, so I was able to sleep on that instead of the floor. We took two extra comforters from the laundry area, and paired with the chair cushion, made a somewhat comfortable little bed for me. I actually did manage to get a few hours sleep on it. But again, to be clear, this was NOT the fault of the hotel at all. They were not given the proper info by our travel agency, so I am looking at the room as if I was alone. If that were the case, everything would have been absolutely fantastic, hence the positive review. A not so great experience in an otherwise excellent accommodation. I would, however, stay here again for sure. I would just make sure to book the room myself instead of using that agency. Side note, I included pictures from a neighbouring room that had two beds, so anyone reading would get a proper idea of what the rooms are like.

Very modern rooms, fairly basic facilities but you have everything that you need for a short stay. You have a private bathroom in the room. Access to your room is detailed in a personal note in the window if the owner is not available. If you do meet the owner, she is very friendly and helpful with any requests that you have. Breakfast is provided as a "packed lunch" in the fridge in the communal area. The breakfast consists of bagels, cream-cheese, yoghut, fruit and a drink. Tea and Coffee you can make in the shared kitchen. There is no dinner served in this hotel but there is a restaurant a few metres away, in easy walking distance. They do very good fish n chips or burgers! In the summer time, look out for Arctic Turns nesting on the cliffs nearby. They will become very aggrssive if you intrude upon their nesting area (this is of course, not the hotel's fault!)

I reserved a seaview room which ended up to be on the second floor. The room itself is quite large and the view was nice and the private ensuite bathroom was also clean and modern. As this is a guesthouse, there is a shared kitchen. There was a fridge, microwave, stove, oven, washing machine, and hair dyer. There was also some sort of compost which could have had some instructions on how to use it. What needs much improvement is the soundproofing. Every time someone opens the entrance, it is like a wind tunnel in the hallway. I also couldn't figure out why the wind noise wouldn't stop after I checked that the entrance was closed. I'm guessing it's a mixture of doors and windows be open. As the large group who overtook the kitchen for the whole night went to sleep, even the wind noise ended. I'm not sure why that party was split between the ground floor and the 2nd floor, but it would be better for the other guests if they were contained on one level so the rest of us could have a kitchen to use and some peace and quiet.
