Was just there for a quick 2 night solo stay, and booked into the Spizzerri Cottage. The location of the lodge is lovely, on the Canadian shield shores of the French River, about 3.5hrs north of Toronto. Overall lodge ammenities, albeit limited due to Covid19, included free to use kayaks and canoes, which make for great paddling on the waters around the lodge.

The Spizzerri cottage is certainly more rustic that the others, but is perfect for a solo traveller, and for a short stay. The bedroom has a bunk bed, with double on the bottom and there is a separate single bed too. Could be ok for 2, but 3 would be tight. Simple 3 piece bathroom, and an open concept kitchen and small table for indoor dining. Screened in porch was lovely to eat at, read or simply enjoy the sunset. A BBQ right outside the cabin door, dedicated to this cabin, was perfect.

Everything in the kitchen was great, and the morning picnic basket was a nice touch. Fridge was ample sized for a few days, and was well stocked overall with right utensils, etc. Need to bring everything else for cooking. Coffee was complimentary.

Overall a great find and would plan to book one of the larger cabins in the future, with family.

Thanks!

We stayed at HBC for 4 nights early July 2020. We couldn't have been happier. The pictures on the site, while beautiful do not do this place justice. It is extraordinary. It is a 5 star luxury hotel in cabin! No details were missed. The kitchen has everything you need including top dishes and pots and pans. The bathrooms come with an assortment of items including Q-tips, band-aids etc, and wonderful soaps and creams. Wonderful comfy beds and pillows. An amazing nights sleep. Complimentary teas and coffees available inside the cabin and it's delicious! The breakfast hampers are to die for! Warm croissants, and yogurt and granola with fruit...I got up every morning just waiting for it to be delivered. French River is one of my most favourite places. Good fishing, good swimming, and lots to see and do around the area. The cabins are super clean, and HBC had a beautiful spacious screened in area to sit, relax, read or simply enjoy sipping on the assortment of teas or coffee. So very happy we chose this spot. Will be back. Thank you to Alex and all the staff at Pine Cove. 100% Service and Care.

We just returned home from our third stay at the Lodge and can’t say enough good things about it. We love everything about the property - beautifully appointed cottages with everything you need; serene and quiet location on the water; excellent staff; wonderful food. This year was the first year we ate in the restaurant and the meal was delicious. The breakfast, lunch and dinner baskets are always a hit.

We love the fully screened decks as I react very strongly to bug bites so the porch is a wonderful way to enjoy the outdoors without being bit. We stayed in Radisson this year and loved that we could keep the doors to the deck open while we slept and could watch the light coming up and setting over the water.

This has become an annual visit for us and we hope to bring my family with us next year. Thank you Alex and team for creating such a special place!

The Lodge at Pine Cove is a very special place. We have now been there twice and have enjoyed it immensely both times. The location is beautiful and tranquil. The accommodations are perfect and the staff are friendly and accommodating. We stayed in the Thompson cottage both times which is up on the hill above the main lodge with a great view through the treetops to the river beyond. The attention to detail is apparent everywhere.

Highly recommend!

The Lodge is a perfect getaway. Secluded cabins in the forest, cotton candy skies, water all around you and great fishing!! (Big fish!). Alex and the staff at The Lodge are so warm and helpful. The breakfast and dinner hampers are amazing and rooms are spotless. We stayed in the Hopkins and couldn't have asked for a better 5 days. We are already planning for next time and staying longer! Highly recommended - Thank you The Lodge at Pine Cove!!!

Reading the reviews above, I felt like a person who came to the average restaurant with questionable food quality, but everyone is amazed by the place ….

The only possible explanation is if the owner himself and his family or friends (one picture is definitely belongs to owner’s companion) create that volume of “nicest place in the world” reviews.

Enough emotions let me use some facts.

On the positive side:

Nature of the French river is all around. Beautiful sunsets, pines, birds, snakes, hummingbirds, ….

If you like a quiet place to canoe, that’s a place to be.

Cottages are clean and very well maintained.
For those who like a breakfast to be served at the door, you got it there.

The other observations:

Not a place for kids: no playground or any other kids activities.
Not a place for elderly or disabled people: resort is situated in the area of tree roots and stones. No walking, hiking only. Even to get to the car, you have to be able to travel quite a distance as all cars kept on parking lot behind office building.
Not a safe place to walk and dock after dark as no light is assumed. You safety will be jeopardised whenever you decide to step out after sunset.
Not a place to swim. No beach is assumed at all. Swimming is possible from large stoned if your cottage is located close to the water or at dock area where on-river traffic makes swimming very unsafe, especially for kids.
Not a place for company to gather at fire pit: some very small area designated that not pleasant to use. Cottages are close to each other, thus making it noisy what otherwise would be considered a quiet conversation.
Not a place for people who like to use Internet, TV or cell phones. In other words, civilisation is strongly prohibited. No wireless connection was specifically designed for your full nature enjoyment. But if you still insist in high-tech suicide, you can pay 2$ for any outside call or every ½ our internet usage from the office.
The place is hard for motor boaters with their own boat. When approaching, they have to get down a very steep uneven hill. Slip is fine, but too shallow for average-sized boat and one would scratch its trailer through sand when slipping or retrieving the boat.

I do understand that every experience is subjective, but being in our mid 50th, we visited many resorts around Canada and abroad. I would give these place 2 stars as a family resort and 4 stars for couples resort.

We went there to begin a canoe trip on the French River. We tried to arrange a canoe rental and the manager, Nicola, was both rude and officious. First, our email and phone calls were not returned. Then we were told we could rent a canoe if we would return it on a Saturday by 11 a.m. When we asked if it was possible to return it at noon as we had a long paddle, or to get some reduction for not having it the whole day, Nicola simply said she had changed her mind and would not rent it to us. We called back again and agreed to the terms even though we thought they were unreasonable. Then when we showed up for the rental we were told we could not rent the canoe. The worst part was no apology was ever offered and no help was offered in locating another canoe nearby.

1. We have contacted Tripadvisor three times (emailed twice and called them) telling them this review should not be posted to the Lodge at Pine Cove site but nothing has been done? 2. The Lodge at Pine Cove does not rent canoes or any equipment to anyone. 3. As our track record clearly shows we are not in the business of being "rude" nor would it profit us in anyway. We run a top class lodge/inn and look after our guests in a way befitting such a business. 3. Frenchriveradventures where this review should be posted, have informed us: - this person did not rent a canoe. - they did not make a deposit for a canoe which is proof of rental. - were told there where no canoes available for the weekend in question but they still insisted on showing up?? 4. Hopefully Tripadvisor can prevent people who are on some sort of vendetta from making spurious remarks against businesses that have nothing to do with an incident. 5. I love being an innkeeper with all its challenges. I invite you to come-up to the lodge and find out why I like it so much. It is a really beautiful and peaceful place in a world that has gone slightly mad! Alex Strachan Innkeeper

I was at Pine Cove the week of July 23rd. We had made some special dietary requests that were not met. My wife ordered a pickeral filet and it arrived after a long wait with bones in it !! Told the waitress to tell the chef, nothing was done about it...still full gratuity charged. The french river is beautiful, but we will not be back to the lodge at pine cove.

Our apologies for the bone in the fish. Pickerel fillets which we get from a well known local fish shop in Sudbury, very occasionally have a bone or two in them and this is often the case with most fish. I suppose we are all so used to having food processed by machines which extract anything and everything, that when we do find a bone in a piece of fish, it seems odd. To my knowledge the guest never mentioned to our front desk that they had a problem with the meal when they paid their invoice. We would certainly not have charged them for the meal, let alone the gratuity if they has told us about their experience. We often cater to special dietary needs; vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, sugar free, sodium free, etc, and as long as we are made aware, prior to guests actually ordering meals, we can arrange to prepare meals for most requests. The only time we cannot prepare meals for a guest, is if there is an allergy that is life threatening, such as some nut allergies. This requires complete sterilization of the kitchen and we are not equipped to do that on an individual basis.

The lodge a Pine Cove is a special place. It's my happy place. A place to disconnect and take a break.

This is our second time visiting and it is just as beautiful, tranquil and peaceful as we remembered.

We arrived at the Lodge around noon and was greeted by our lovely host, Victoria. She was very professional, hospitable and gracious. Victoria, thank you again for making our stay extra special.

Few tips:
- The drive is approximately 4.5 hours from Toronto
- There is no Wi-Fi, TV or telephones in the cottages however, Wi-Fi is available in the main lodge
- A breakfast hamper is included in the rate. the hamper is delivered between 8:30 - 9:30 in the morning
- You have a choice to bring your own food and cook in your cottage or eat at the Lodge's restaurant (except for studios).

Since we arrived early, our cottage wasn't ready however, we relaxed in the main Lodge for a couple of hours having lunch, reading and enjoying the lovely atmosphere. We also enjoyed some of their specialty teas, in particular I had the French lavender Earl Grey which was absolutely divine.

Our cottage, Paul Kane is located at the very end of the property. The cottage was very private, luxurious, clean and modern. It has one bedroom with a living room and full kitchen. It also comes with a BBQ, wood burning fireplace and two enclosed porches; one in the bedroom and one in the living room.

Once again, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. We have already booked our stay for 2017.

I don’t think they are but We’ve stayed there in July for the past two years and haven’t needed a/c. The windows are all screened, including the decks so we keep the windows and French doors open to allow air flow. And it gets cool there at night.

How do you get to the Lodge? Can you drive to it or do you need a water taxi at some point?
Noelville, Canada
Hi Julie, We are a drive to lodge. Just go on Google and put in 1013 Highway 528A, Noelville, Ontario, P0M 2N0 and it will show you the route. Have a great fall and winter and hope to see at the lodge one day. All the best, Alex Strachan, Owner, Lodge at Pine Cove
Noelville, Canada
Hello, I think the simple answer is that I am a canoeist and put in at this location many times to go off for two nights to two weeks. A few years on, 1999, I bought the old fish camp that was here and turned it into what it is today. For accessible canoeing or kayaking (close enough to populations) in really superb water and landscape it is really hard to beat. All the photos on our site are either taken right by the lodge or within canoeing distance of the lodge. Google our address - 1013 Highway 528A, Noelville, Ontario. P0M 2N0 and look at the satellite view and you will see what I mean. I hope this helps you and happy paddling. Alex Strachan, Owner, Lodge at Pine Cove
