Popped in here for lunch, the buffet is definitely the way to go. It's amazing and well worth a visit especially with a hang over! You can go back as many times as you like and help yourself. The waitress was really good and looked after us.

I was staying here for a few days and it was great. Had 3 really good nights sleep, delicious breakfast and the service was spot on as the staff are really friendly. The rooms were comfortable with a lovely hot power shower. Tea and coffee making facilities with fresh milk made me really happy. Would definitely recommend this as a... More

Lovely village and initial impression very good, friendly and welcoming mix of tradional feel with modern cleanliness. Really good selection of well kept local beers, no problem there. MY wife had the steak burger with fries and Salad proclaiming it to be delicious. I went for the Steak and ale pie. It wasn't a pie, it was a bowl of thick... More

It's a nice village but the area immediately surrounding the Crown , particularly the car park adjacent to the cricket pitch looks a bit tatty to be honest which doesn't create a great 1st impression - some mess in the back yard and half broken down cars dotted about. Neither does the lead up to the bedrooms give a great... More

Dropped in for a meal without having booked. We were made very welcome and whilst my wife really enjoyed her excellent fish and chips, my pie was only marginally better than exceptional. Really atmospheric open fire in the bar and good choice of wines and beers. Very well done and please keep it up!

Found this pub / restaurant via the best in sussex book, booked on a Saturday eve for sons birthday meal. We had a starter and a main course, great meal, polite welcome, good pint of Harvey's, great service and would recommend to any one who wants a decent meal in a Sussex pub 👍

The food was second to none and the chefs pedigree wad clearly evident. The service was very friendly and attentive. Waiting staff very good. The rooms were clean and warm. The bed had seen better days although it was clean with crisp linen. If the owner spends a bit on modernising the rooms, it would be 5 star to suit... More

Food excellent, both evening meal and breakfast. Service staff couldn't do enough for us - everyone very friendly and helpful. Room slightly dated and bed was comfortable, although I feel the pillows and linen could do with updating - all very clean though. Nice village to wander around. We had a wonderful stay, thank you.

Visiting the area for a friend's wedding, lovely pub, beautiful village and the best full English breakfast I've ever had! Only one criticism, the mattress in room 2 was terrible... a really lovely place to stay otherwise.

The crown inn is first class, great service, nice room and friendly staff. This is one of the best small pubs we have stayed in. We only stayed one night but we will be going back soon. The village lovely, handy for anywhere on the drouth coast and bluebell railway.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Crown has been an inn for more than 250 years and was orginally a medieval hall house in the 14th century. A couple of months before being assassinated, U.S President John F. Kennedy slept in the parish of Horsted Keynes when he stayed one Saturday night at Birch Grove, the home of former Prime Minister Harold Macmillan. The American Secret Service closed the village that night, siting their communication hub in the Lounge Bar of The Crown Inn. On 1st July 2003, a lightning bolt struck the electricity pole beside The Crown. The roof and much of the building were destroyed by one of the largest fires in the area for many years. Fortunately the fire did not spread to the oldest part of the building and it has now been restored to its former glory. The Crown remained shrouded in scaffolding for 5 years and in 2008 renovation work was started. After nearly 2 years of work The Crown opened in November 2009. ... more   less
