Hotel Manisses receives accolades for its comfortable and well-furnished amenities, including luxurious beds and delightful public spaces that contribute to its inviting atmosphere. While some guests consider the pricing on the higher side, the charm and historic allure coupled with discounts on local scooter rental provide added value. The prime location is a hit for its convenience to attractions and downtown, yet it remains a tranquil retreat.

Detailed Reviews
Hotel Manisses has a great location just up the hill from the bustle of the Old Harbor, so quieter but very easy to get to/from town. We picked a great room - it was quite large with two queen beds and a huge balcony/deck overlooking the back garden and restaurant seating area. Very spacious, however it was expensive. The room needed some tweaks - more lighting in the bedroom area right by the beds for reading, some lamps there (we saw some in the closet that were likely going to be installed). Other small things were needing some TLC but otherwise it was a great space and the deck was awesome. The front desk was efficient but lacked a certain friendliness and they did not tell us about different things the hotel offers, like coffee in the morning in the lobby etc. The restaurant there is delicious and also pricey, it’s great sitting in the garden for a meal. Overall a wonderful visit!

Another amazing stay at Hotel Manisses. This is our hotel of choice for many years for so many reasons. The hotel offers the comforts of a lucite hotel yet the charm of the quaint boutique hotel it has always been on the island.
Faye, the hotel manager, always goes above and beyond to make our stay absolutely flawless. Always offering assistance any way she can from helping with dining reservations and recommendations to assisting us with booking our next visit before we even check out. She is a true asset to the hotel and another reason we return again and again.
Rooms off all the luxuries of a 5-star hotel. Rooms are large, yet cozy. The beds and linens are some of the most comfortable ever! Housekeeping does a great job making sure rooms and grounds are spotless. You are welcomed with the most wonderful scent the second you step up to enter the front door.
There is a restaurant on property- Block Island Oyster Bar- that is owned and operating by the fabulous and always hospitable Kimberly (well known for Kimberly’s Restaurant also on the island). The food and ambiance here are not to be missed.
The hotel also offers a beautiful outdoor cocktail bar on the front porch in the most beautiful setting. You can sip on coffee (served complimentary in the lobby each morning), a delicious selection of cocktail and even a fruit smoothie while relaxing on the most picturesque porch watching people pass by on bike and foot up and down the hill.
While the hotel is in walking distance to all the island has to offer from shops, restaurants, bars and beaches to ferries and bike/car and moped rentals it is nice retreat from the noise and traffic found on the main road outside the ferry docks.
Highly recommend this gem of a hotel for anyone looking to have an amazing stay on this fabulous island. Already looking forward to our next stay!

We had an amazing stay for our overnight for a first time excursion to Block Island! We arrived early on a Sunday morning to take advantage of a full day, with the amazing customer service provided, and was able to easily walk to the inn to drop our bags. The information provided was so helpful, as we were directed to a local bike shop with and spent the day easily doing the self guided island bike tour, with the ease of the location of the inn....dropped bikes at 4 pm, checked in, with a rest at the lovely cocktail options, and our room was immaculate and perfect. We opted for dinner at the restaraunt on site, and given the location, was a beautiful way to also get an evening stroll in the town center. Given we had a later ferry departure Monday, we were able to request a late check out after a relaxing coffee in the "living room" of the inn. The entire ambience, location, and hospitality provided at the front desk (not just with customer service, but in concierge and knowledge of the island!) is certain to make this spot a return choice with no doubt. HIGHLY recommend!

We stayed in one of the ground level rooms entered directly through the front porch. The room was of decent size, everything was clean, and the location of the hotel is very convenient. We had a very nice stay, until the said incident, which is also the reason for the 2 stars. On the morning that we were leaving (around 8 am), we woke up to a very loud noise and vibration - someone was power washing the porch right outside the rooms with an extremely loud compressor. As if that wasn’t bad enough, he started power washing the window and the door to the room. Dirty water started coming into the room through the door seals (yes, you read that correctly), getting our shoes and bags wet. We couldn’t open the door for a while out of fear of getting blasted in the face with a power washer. When we did open the door and tell the guy what was happening, he said sorry and wiped it up with a towel. And then he went right back to more power washing! When we mentioned it to front desk, the reaction was basically a shrug and an “oops”. We didn’t make a big deal of this since we were checking out, but it was so bizarre that I had to mention it here. Maybe the upper management will read the review and address this for the sake of their ground floor guests.

We’re very sorry to hear about this experience. We pride ourselves on keeping an exceptionally clean hotel, of which power washing is a part. Obviously, our contractor began the day a little too early. We hope you’ll give us another shot.

Just returned from a weekend at the Hotel Manisses. The hotel is currently running at half-speed, which they blame on "staffing issues". There is no cafe, no grab and go food, no picnic lunches, no concierge, no bellman, nothing as advertised. There are no amenities. You get a room, a mini water bottle and a beach towel which you pick up in the lobby, which are usually down to the last towel or last bottle, and that is all. In spite of not offering any of the above amenities which are advertised as available on their website, they continue to charge full price. It was very disappointing in that regard. The hotel has nice decor and is convenient to town.

This was my first visit to Block Island. I planned it six months in advance with an advance payment of 1/2 of the total charge for the week. that was almost $5000. We had a room with two queen beds, and a large patio. The bathroom had only a shower, no tub, despite the fact that it was a very large bathroom. The amenities were underwhelming. and, for the amount of time that we stayed linens were never changed. That was made, but linens not changed.
Our expectations were very high based on some recent reviews of the hotel. But the reality was different. Although the very limited staff were friendly and helpful, it did not make up for the fact that no breakfast is included in this very costly room. In addition, there was very limited tea and coffee available in the lobby for a very limited period in the morning. Also, tea and coffee are not located in the way that you can serve yourself. So, staff is required to dispense hot water and coffee.
Even more disturbing is the fact that there is no staff after 8 PM in the evening until the morning. So no Concierge. One must let themselves in if they arrive late at night. also, because of this, there is no security.
We were in room number 3, which turned out to be noisy because it is close to the lobby desk and traffic going up and down the stairs. In addition, the air conditioning unit after several hours, would rattle and need to be turned off. Although reported to staff, this problem was not remedied. Parking is limited and should be reserved for guests that are staying at the hotel. We have had the experience of having to park in a distant parking lot because of dining guests occupying that space.
Because we spent a week here, we had the opportunity to visit other hotels. And I can say that there are better options. This hotel charges five star rates, but it only offers three star service. It is obvious that this hotel is understaffed and making a small fortune as a result of cutting corners.
On a more positive note, the hotel is easy walking distance into town. As in the title of my review, I would suggest staying someplace else on this island that offers more.

Response from Hotel Manisses, General Manager at Hotel Manisses
Responded Aug 31, 2023
Good Day CAgirlqt & thank you for the feedback. We will be sure to address these concerns. However, please note that we were very accommodating to your needs and Tyrone went out of his way to pack up your car, as your car was a little way away from the parking lot. You did not thank him for this. When you wanted tea, we jumped up and made you tea. Faye from the front desk also went down the street to buy a birthday cake from Aldos while on duty. Once again, going out of our way. She also didn't charge you for the mini bar items consumed and trashed in the lobby garbage. We do appreciate the feedback and there are areas in which we will strive to improve, however, we accommodated you and your daughter fully and went above and beyond, even though you made the staff uncomfortable. Housekeeping serviced your room daily and at the exact time you wanted. We scheduled Tammy to ensure all your needs were met timeously. Thank you.

If your looking for an amazing experience surrounded by amazing people you can't go wrong with the Manisses! The hotel is the definition of New England charm and features newly renovated rooms that are by far the nicest on the island. The hotel also features arguably the nicest restaurant on the island in a magical garden setting. To top it all off, it is less than a 5 min walk from the ferry.
If you stay here I'm sure you will be as impressed as I was!

The hotel staff was beyond amazing since I first booked and contacted them. I was traveling to propose and they helped when I was preparing the trip. The restaurant was unbelievably good, we were happily surprised with the quality of the food. The hotel staff was great enough to decorate the entire room with flowers and champagne at no extra charge after the proposal. The room was very clean with a nice balcony. I hope to return one day, thank you all for providing excellent service and going above and beyond to make our stay something extra special.

The good:
The staff are very nice and helpful.
The location is convenient.
The front porch is a comfortable place to sit.
I don’t think there is a better option on Block Island based upon our earlier stay at Block Island Beach House, which is the newest hotel and not any better.
The not so good:
The whole place looks worn and ready for a refresh.
Our room had a lot of peeling paint on the ceiling.
The room layout with two queen beds made it very cramped. A sitting area would have been so much better than the second bed.
The bathroom had a small dark stall shower with a curtain.
They can’t fix this, but there is no view.
The stairs to the third floor are very steep.

Pros: The grounds are beautiful and idyllic and the location is ideal, just a short walk to old harbor. Nicely decorated with understated elegance.
Cons: Very poor service from front desk/FOH. I’m a return guest, and upon my first visit I was quite disappointed in the service but hoping that it was just a fluke and that with feedback and time these issues would be resolved.
Unfortunately, that was not to be. The front desk experience is not only underwhelming, but there is one employee in particular who is downright rude and condescending. You aren’t welcomed, it feels quite like being in a queue at the DMV. They don’t provide any information about the hotel (restaurant, hours, amenities, the fact that at a certain time the entrances to the hotel lock and there is no on-site service should anything go awry. There is a phone number you can call.)
There were two names on my reservation; despite this I was only given one room key. When I asked for an additional key I was flat out told no. I thought she must be kidding. I wasn’t feeling well, and was turning in early. My friend, the other person on the reservation however, was going to meet with some friends for a bit. While feeling pretty unwell at this point, I once again explained the situation and requested a room key of her own so that I could go to sleep and she would still be able to get into the hotel and also our room. The woman at the desk cut me off, and rudely said no, she couldn’t give me a card, but provided no explanation, even when I explained the situation (which i shouldn’t have even need to). I couldn’t wrap my head around it, so bizarre, not mention egregious. So I stayed up as long as I could and then called my friend to come back so that I could let her in downstairs and to our room. I recognized this woman from an earlier stay, when I originally noted the poor service. Why is this person still working in this position? She clearly doesn’t believe in the concept of client service and her attitude turns a beautiful hotel, on an island that stands apart for its easy going, friendly, and unpretentious character, into an unpleasant stay.

I don't believe you can see ocean from rooms, only the grounds/animals.
We didn't go to dinner there bc we had two kids under the age of four with us. I'd say it was a little on the dressier side; no shorts / beach attire. I saw plenty of people enjoying dinner there.
I have stayed at Hotel Manisses a couple of times now and there was coffee....in the room there is a coffee pot and all the fixings to make your cup anytime you want to. The in room coffee was outstanding and allowed me to also have a cup in the afternoon as well as when I woke up and was dressing.
