Beautifully restored hotel with sophisticated comfort. Wonderful main sitting rooms that are comfortable and inviting. The welcoming and accommodating staff were helpful in making recommendations to utilize the short about of time we had on the island. The room was bright, beautiful, clean and had quite honestly the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. I look forward to returning and experiencing their on-site restaurant which sits to the side of the hotel just off of the beautiful outdoor lounging area.

The Manisses is a 17-guest room converted Victorian House with a restaurant. It’s been remodeled since we were there last - they installed air conditioning! Air conditioning in July and August is a good thing. Not sure when the remodel happened – could have been 2 or 3 years ago. The Manisses used to be owned by the people who owned The 1661 Inn, which is up the hill on the same street as the Manisses. It’s now owned by the people who own Ballard’s Inn on Ballard’s Beach near the ferry landing in Old Harbor. The remodeled rooms are comparatively light and airy (though some might argue generic). Gone are the mismatched antiques and charmingly “creepy” vintage photographs. We had a room facing the street with a rooftop balcony. The room was clean and bathroom small. This was our 10th stay on the Block. We have stayed everywhere on the island. It seems like the island's hotels are becoming more upscale every year.

Hotel Manisses more than met our expectations during a 5 night stay on Block Island. The room was bright and comfortable with lots of room for the three of us and our “way too many” bags. Carrying all those bags up to the third floor was comical to say the least; there is no elevator. The lobby has plenty of comfy seating at which we enjoyed coffee and a breakfast item each morning before walking to Persephone’s Kitchen for a breakfast packed with energy for the day. Everyday we ended our day with a stop at the Hotel Manisses restaurant located in a loving downstairs setting with great indoor and outdoor seating and fabulous food. The staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel owner was personable and helpful. He entertained us with life stories as well as island stories. We three friends think of our time on the island with fond memories and dreams of returning. We will again stay at Hotel Manisses for its grand location and comfortable, friendly atmosphere.

I was expecting a nicer hotel, based on the name and price of this place. It is in a great location just a short walk from town and the dock, and the outside of the hotel is lovely (as is the restaurant and bar). But the walls are thin and the rooms/bathrooms are fairly basic. We stayed in room 1, and every time the generator kicked on outside our window, the bed literally vibrated! We joked that it was like Magic Fingers without the quarters, but it was pretty annoying, really. You can also hear anyone walking by your room outside if they are talking. That said, the people who worked there were very nice and helpful.

The regular queen room is tiny and loud. Impossible to sleep at night because of the noise and the light coming in through the door. The hotel does not turn the hallway lights off at night. Furthermore, the room was slanted. Quite weird hotel room, I do not recommend.
