My wife and I go to Avonlea every year for our anniversary. The rooms are nicely appointed and hours had three windows providing a 220° view of the beach, which is literally just steps away. Sabrina, the most recent innkeeper went out of her way to accommodate special requests, and she makes an excellent breakfast in the morning and charcuterie and cookies in the afternoon, which I served with wine, water, or lemonade. You can’t beat the location or the view anywhere on the island, as it is the only house that is right on the beach.

Block Island is a heavenly place on its own, but when you stay at the Avonlea you will have a truly relaxing experience. The house is literally on the beach; you can walk down a short (30-foot?) path through the dunes to access it. The views from the porch are so peaceful; you can see Crescent Beach for miles. My husband and I have stayed at the Avonlea four times, each time in a different room. Our favorites so far have been Ruby, which has a spectacular view, and Pearl, which is on the main floor and has its own entrance. Be advised that the rooms are small; expect to do a bit of shuffling around with your spouse moving between the bed and the wall. The breakfast is delicious, with eggs made to order, fresh fruit, yogurt, and granola, and a variety of breads. Happy Hour features good-quality wine and an assortment of cheese, crackers, and dips. I can't imagine staying anywhere else when I'm on the island!

Room Tip: The ocean views are worth the extra cost; book mid-week to avoid noise from the tavern next door

Had another wonderful trip and, as always, Avonlea was perfect. You can’t beat the location right on the beach. Enjoying breakfast on the porch or enjoying the sunset, the Avonlea is a special place. Sabrina was great and takes great care of the guests! We’ll be booking for next year!

Sabrina was extremely accommodating. Clean room, great view from main deck area. Our ferry was early and had a place to store our bags with a guest bath to use before and after our stay. A bit pricey for the actual room but the location is perfect with beach, food and drink nearby

We rented the Avonlea for our entire wedding party for our Block Island wedding weekend and could not have been happier. The Avonlea is one of the most beautiful B&Bs on the island & we enjoyed the views from the wrap around porch and front lawn every day. The location is perfect, being right on the beach but also right next to the town. The service from Sabrina, Bobby and the other housekeepers was incredible. We we’re a busy/loud group but they were extremely gracious to all of us and provided amazing breakfast and cocktail hour every day. They prepared charcuterie boards upon request which were fantastic. They even let our dog out to go to the bathroom when we we’re out of the house one evening. We made amazing memories at the Avonlea and cannot wait to come back in the future. Thank you!!! <3

We had a wonderful stay at Avonlea. Beautiful views from the porch and from our room of sunsets and sunrises. Wonderful, friendly innkeepers who provided a great breakfast every morning and wine and cheese in the evenings. Reading and relaxing in the rockers on the porch was a favorite past-time. The walk to the beach was great.
