I purchased a $500 gift certificate last March and due to COVID was not able to use it for various reasons. I booked for a couple of days in October in which they asked for an additional $275 deposit. Due to Rhode Island being on the restricted list soon after I booked I could not travel because of my work in a CT hospital. Also ,my boyfriend ,who I purchased the gift certificate for, had an unexpected surgery (appendix) the night before the booking. So I thought we had two pretty solid reasons to ask for my $275 deposit back. (they still have my $500) because we will not be able to use it at all this year. After several emails (where I did not get a response) as well as a call with an very disgruntled employee (who said she was the answering service) they would not budge on their policy. For this reason and their total lack of understanding and compassion, I will not go there at all and do not recommend them.

STUNNING ocean property. This was awesome! The rooms were bright, clean, and beds extremely comfortable. Our room came with breakfast, wine at 5:30 and plenty of parking, all steps away from the ocean. Maria and Bobbie (staff on property) were so smiley and nice, they helped us with everything we could possibly want. Bobby even ran around to try to find us a pint of ice-cream for my wife's birthday! Great guest relations and service, which nowadays is hard to find. We 100% will be coming back next year.

We stayed for the first time at the Avonlea in the Emerald room. Talk about gorgeous views! When you sit up in bed, the ocean is right in front of you and to the left is the view down town beach. The innkeepers were all very helpful and friendly, and the breakfasts were amazing. There was also a wine service at night, and the red wine was delicious. We can't wait to come back to this little piece of heaven.

This September (around the 23rd), my Mom and brother and I went out to stay on Block Island for my 35th birthday, and had THE BEST TIME!!! What a great gift! We have been making it an annual trip for a few years or so now, and because of Bobby and the wonderful staff at the Blue Dory/ Avonlea, our stay on Block Island has ALWAYS been beyond AMAZING! First off, I want to mention that Crescent Beach, where both are located, is one of my favorite beaches I've ever been to, and for many good reasons. The past two years, we had stayed at Avonlea, a gem among gems. This time, we stayed at the Blue Dory Inn's Cottage, to vary things up a bit... Literally felt like we had our own ocean/beach-side bungalow on a paradise island, like Bermuda! For both the Blue Dory and Avonlea... Such awesome spots, with the best of vibes; and Bobby & the team consistently deliver THE MOST friendly, exceptional hospitality, along with all the helpful knowledge one could ever hope for about the island! The location, atmosphere (inside and out), and above all... The way we are treated along with the way we always feel when there, are major reasons we keep coming back - and will continue to do so! Plus, we have always loved Block Island, which is a beautiful, natural wonder, and just a beyond-cool place that makes you feel as if you've traveled to a much more distant shore! So couple that with a story-book place to stay, and you have a trip you'll always keep talking about. The past two years around my birthday, we have stayed at Avonlea, Jewel of the Sea!... Which, let me say, TRULY IS! Avonlea is picture-perfect inside and out, with the most gorgeous ocean and beach views ever, and with probably one of the best porches in existence (you will see when you go there). We love BOTH Avonlea and the Blue Dory/ Cottage, which is why I really wanted to review them together here as one. They're physically so close to each other too, so it's a perfect setup. Either way, you'll be so stoked you booked with them! And again, we figured we'd try out both places, this time at the Blue Dory's 'Cottage.' No other family of Inns could quite make you feel more at home or help create such incredible memories, with the warmest of feelings. *And a massive part of this is due to Bobby and staff!!!* We truly look forward to returning yet again (to either spot), and can't wait to see Bobby and everyone once again! Plus, those home-made cookies... You HAVE to have them... You'll see exactly what I mean when you do, and you'll return for them again & again. :) Where else can you stay at such a friendly, clean, personal, lovely location, right on the ocean & one of the nicest beaches there is - yet also just steps into town, with all that is has to offer- and with the easiest access to the Block Island ferry as well as the entire island?!?... If I had to imagine and create such a place, it would be this exactly. THANKS AGAIN to Bobby, Emily, and everyone at the Blue Dory Inn & Avonlea; we LOVE it every time we visit!!! I wouldn't write a review this long if I wasn't as excited as I am to be doing so. You are awesome - See you soon! ~Brenden, Portsmouth, RI

As an author, I am always looking for a place to escape to write. The Avonlea was absolutely perfect! The views were stunning both day and night! My room was quiet and comfortable, just what I needed. The service was outstanding, and everyone was helpful and kind. The Avonlea was, by far, my favorite place to write so far. I can’t wait to go back and finish my book!
