Loved the bright and classic room with a view of the shops and the ocean. The decor is just what we expected from the website. The king sized bed was the most comfortable we have ever slept on - we wanted to carry it home with us! Beautiful location with a lot of amazing spots to sit and enjoy. The only not-so-great notes are as mentioned by other guests - the majority of the staff are not welcoming or friendly, and one girl at the front desk was downright rude. We were shocked when she raised her hands and made an ugly face when we didn’t realize she was ready to check us in. She acted like a silly teenager instead of a professional adult. The bell boys were not friendly at all and probably lose out on a lot of tips since they are not courteous and just drop the bags and run out of the room. Since there are no elevators we did need their help with our bags. The menu seemed limited to us and we went elsewhere after ordering drinks, so did not sample the food. I agree with others that a second mirror in the room is definitely needed - very hard to get ready without it. The air conditioner was amazingly quiet and worked really well. Even with the negatives, it is a lovely spot and we’d give it another try, but I sure hope they listen to all of these reviews about the attitude of the people who work there. Bring in more quality people at the front desk and they’ll really shine.

My friend and I just returned from a super fun stay over the July 4th holiday. We had the best experience at BIBC! The rooms are brand new with a lot of little touches such as; beach cooler provided, beach towels, coffee stations in the hallway on each floor, robes, corkscrews, etc. The decor is exquisite and the service went above and beyond! Special shout out to Scott who really made our stay! Their theme is NO BAD DAYS and that is truly the vibe of this hotel. The food and cocktails are a step above anything else on the island with a beautiful view to boot. TWO outdoor bars and an inspirational patio that made our stay! This is not necessarily a R&R retreat but more of a fun vibe so don't expect a quiet weekend. I will be back!

We decided to make a complete get-away from our crazy lives and take the ferry from Pt. Judith, RI to Block Island for the day.....it turned out to be a perfect day for us! My brother recommended the "Surf Hotel" - now the Beach House for lunch. The porch sits right on one of the most beautiful beaches ever, and the food was great! The summer rush is basically over, but the restaurant was doing a very good business. My husband and I had some amazing hot dogs and fries for lunch, but the dessert - a homemade Key Lime Pie was a home run! The service was relaxed which was fine with us since we were playing hookie and just wanted time by the ocean. The food was hot and very good - there are so many other things I want to try on that menu but will always finish up with that fabulous key lime pie! Try it! You won't be sorry! The view, the place, this historic hotel and the food is all worth the trip! And Jim (I think), the chef is amazing! Thank you for a great day!

How fun that you decided to escape the crazy "every day" and hop on a ferry over to Block–we're so glad you did! Love to hear that everything from the amazing view to the food ordered (we too have to admit we're huge fans of the key lime pie!), the relaxed vibe, and so much more made for a fun day away. We hope to welcome you back sometime soon–maybe for a fun "staycation?"

The chef is so talented and excited and proud of the delicious food he prepares. By far the best egg sandwich I’ve ever had with chicken that was brindes for 3 days then fried. On a biscuit. #amazing. Key lime pie to die for with the most decadent crunchy crust. Rooms were so nice compared to the old surf hotel. Well thought out and considerate in providing everything you need to make the stay especially perfect. Super comfy beds. Convenient beach totes to help put a cooler together with some of your own cocktails. Beach access with lounge chairs all included. Beverage stations on every floor with a freezer and individually zip locked bags of ice. Complimentary Coffee station. Absolutely worth every cent.

We stayed here in July and then just visited for the day again Labor Day weekend. Pros: location, beautiful (tiny) room, in our opinion best bar location on the Island, very busy staff were friendly, outdoor seating area (with couches and chairs) really beautiful and comfy, a great place to sit and relax. (BUT... Cons: music at outdoor seating area is ridiculously loud and quite annoying. We’re not old fogies but we DO like to sit and read on a vaca and listening to someone else’s pretentious hipster playlist is really annoying. Even if it was turned down quite a few octaves it would still be annoying, quite frankly, but it might help. You’re one of the only places oceanfront and here you are, drowning out the beautiful sound of the waves crashing trying to go for some sort of club vibe. Ick. Really a total turn off. Maybe save that for evenings if you really must? The music was so loud that we could hear it down on the beach! Not cool. Also, your menus need a total overhaul. The drink menu had some interesting choices but why don’t you list the ingredients? You claim to have a “mixologist” but we’ve rarely gone to a bar lately that doesn’t list the alcohol that’s used in making a drink. Your staff is way too busy and don’t have the time to answer what is actually in a drink. (Plus the 2x we asked they didn’t know) Make it easier on them! List the ingredients on the menu. Also your lunch/dinner menu is just meh. I had the worst burger on BI at your place. Frozen patties? C’mon! Do better. Another day I tried the Caesar salad and it was ridiculously small. The house salad WAS delicious but a salad for $16? Kinda crazy. The “lobby” is honestly a mess. I couldn’t find the front desk. Then I realized the front desk is located at the same place as the in house boutique. I had to wait for a woman to finish selecting and purchasing a tee shirt before I could check in! So strange! Also there was a loooooong line right there by the “front desk” of people waiting to use one of the 2 restrooms located in the store/lobby. Gross. The front desk should be where the coffee bar is located. That area was always empty. Another pretentious design choice, honestly. A few comfy chairs in here would have been a better use of the space. Lastly, you took away the perfect Victorian rocking chairs that used to grace your front porch and replaced them with a few silly chairs that don’t even match the Victorian charm of your hotel. Whoever did your design failed, in our opinion. Go ahead. Make it stylish and funky but why not keep some of the Victorian charm? The BIBH is a great place but somehow you took an old gem and really cleaned it up and greatly improved it (nice rooms! private bathrooms!) but you’re trying way too hard to be a cool boutique hotel with an edgy vibe and it really shows. (And not in a good way.)

While we’re happy to hear that you’ve enjoyed our hotel’s fantastic location and great bar, we’re certainly disappointed that your experiences have left much to be desired. We do appreciate your feedback on the music, as it’s our hope to create a relaxing, laid-back environment and we completely understand that crashing ocean waves may be all it takes to create that perfect ambiance. Regarding our menus, while of course, we take all feedback to heart, a lot of thought when into curating both the food and drink selections and we’re confident in our menu offerings. We can understand that the recent renovations to Block Island Beach House may not suit everyone’s unique taste. That being said, we truly understand the importance of the property and it’s deep-rooted history to the island and we took that into consideration throughout the redesign, making sure to blend the old-school charm with modern updates and amenities.
