To stay @ the 1661 Inn which I have done for years, always the best and everyone that is there, no exception, always the best. And the view, no matter where you stay @ the Inn, you have access to the spectacular, anywhere on the property. Can't say enough good things about this place. My home away from home.
Block Island is known as one of the last best places on Earth, and our stay at the 1661 Inn added to our enjoyment of this beautiful island. We stayed in The Adrian room, one of the more expensive rooms oil the property, but the gas fireplace, deck, comfortable furniture and hot tub were all worth it. Our weather wasn't great, so we had a lovely room to relax in and read. We stayed just before the start of the season, so the breakfast provided was limited, but certainly sufficient. Wine and nibbles were also provided every day at 4:00, with what we term a "generous pour." The location is a short walk up the hill from the pier, and is an excellent jumping off point for walks to all parts of the island. We will be back again.
All the staff was very caring an patient and made is feel so comfortable. We had a great room with a view of the sunrise and the ocean. They helped us find places to eat as well as find nice places to hike and bike. I would stay here again. It is a 5 min walk to town with all the restaurants. It has a great outside patio to relax and drink a coffee or something from their bar. They had wine and cheese at 4-5 when we were there which as great and allowed us to talk to some other guests.
The 1661 Inn is five minutes from town and on the scenic walk to the Bluffs. As a result, I've passed it DOZENS of times in the last twenty years, always saying, "One day..." It's a little pricier than other hotels (I recommend going just before or after summer tourist season hits if you're on a budget) but there's a reason for that. The accommodations are amazing and span from a nice room to an extravagant room, whatever your preference and needs. I splurged and stayed in the Staples Room - and will definitely be returning. Aside from the views and the property, which is stunning, the customer service is AMAZING! Every person I interacted with seemed to genuinely be happy to be there and to help the guests (in contrast, I stayed at two other hotels on my visit to Rhode Island and encountered a lot of half-hearted, forced smiles and bored employees). There was an energy and enthusiasm in every employee. They bent over backwards to help. Andrew and Kaylee (sorry if I misspelled your name!!!) were happy to see to any of my needs or issues. I had an issue with the jacuzzi and Kaylee came right up and made sure I was all set and also checked to make sure the fireplace was working while she was there. You can stow your bags before your room is ready and after check-out with no problem. They don't offer room service BUT there are breakfast muffins out all morning with coffee/tea and the afternoon there is wine and other treats. Since I was there before the summer tourist season really kicked off, they gave me a prepared list of restaurants/cafes that were open for meals which was VERY helpful. I can't WAIT to go back - I'd already decided to return to Rhode Island once a year because I've missed the ocean... now I've added that I will definitely spend at least one night at the 1661 Inn; it's well worth every penny spent!…
We usually stay at the 1661 two times a year, Spring and weekend after Thanksgiving. 1661 has a great location, close to town and an easy walk to the Spring House Barn to go for dinner. The staff is amazing. Could not ask for a more friendly owner. Rita definitely will make you feel at home. Up until the COVID crisis the 1661 had the best brunch available. Can't wait for the brunch to come back. Oh by the way Block Island is a great place to visit and you can spend your free time walking the trails looking for glass floats.
