Great for walkers
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travelers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
Amazing place, we have book a double room and the room was very clean and comfortable. The atmosphera in the hostel was very good, even that was not full due to the pandemic they make you feel at home and very welcome.
Bryan (Reception Staff) has been very helpful giving us directions of where to go around Malta very friendly too. They also do laundry in the hostel which is a very good point when you travel for long time with minimum clothes. They gave us free food too.
We loved Malta and we enjoyed a lot, if we come back any day, we will definitely chose Marco Polo again. Our best wishes for the rest of this crazy year!

This place is the goods! The rooms are super spacious with your own massive drawer/locker, curtains for your bunk and really comfortable beds. Kitchen is a great size, bathrooms are clean and the artwork on all the walls is sick. But what sets this place apart is the terrace/bar and the amazing staff.
The bar is incredibly priced with great deals, the lounge area is really big with pool and comfortable couches and chairs, the terrace is incredible and spread over 2 floors with a sick view of St Juliens/Paceville.
I was there for my birthday with my friends and the staff were legends - ended up partying with them each night and they guided us around town and just made it a sick time.
Everyone was amazing, but special shout out to Gemma who was a bloody winner. Ridiculously friendly, was awesome behind the bar and stuck it out with us in town each night! Had heaps of fun with her and she's a real asset to the hostel.
Thanks team! You guys were the perfect addition to our trip and we'll be back for sure!

I stayed at Marco Polo in the middle of September and was glad I chose this hostel. I chose a private room which was pretty spacious. At first, I had a hard time getting into my room since there was something wrong with it, but the employee who checked me in, Kash, made sure maintenance fixed it the next day. The location is directly across the street from a bus station that will get you to Valletta, as well as several other places in St Julian's and Sliema, which is another point in its favor, as well as that the hostel is only about a 5 minute walk from the waterfront where there are several restaurants (plus, the waterfront, especially at night, is gorgeous).
Speaking of Kash, he was very kind and helpful whenever I had questions. There was also a lady who was with Kash when I checked in who was very kind and helpful as well, but unfortunately I don't remember her name. I also interacted with another friendly employee there, so I would say the staff is a strength of the hostel.
On my second day there, we were able to go to Camino, which was fabulous, and I'm grateful that I was able to go on this day trip.
The only negative, and seriously, keep this in mind if you're a light sleeper like me, is that you can hear people walking past the hotel yelling late at night (coming back from the bars since this hostel is near a lot of them). Also, I did hear people coming in the hostel late at night, unfortunately, so I didn't sleep very well during my time there since I am a light sleeper. But that's definitely something you'll probably deal with at a lot of places in St Julian's. I'd still recommend staying here, especially if you look forward to going to the rooftop bar.

Be aware this is a party hostel. Even partying and traveling during COVID isn’t that big. This hostel has still the feeling as there was a party the night before. Toilets and showers are disgusting. Doors and windows are broken. It all looks very sloppy.
The staff isn’t paying attention at all to any covid measures (social distancing, mask, washing hands). There are no dispensers of alcohol gel. Staff is not wearing mask, even during check-in or in communication with clients.
I stayed in other hostel during this pandemic. Never seen such a non-responsible behaviour.
Maybe it was coincidence, but the evening I arrived, 35 working migrants from Romania checked in. Their boss was even smoking inside and not wearing a mask. For more than 1h there were 30 people in the bar without a mask. No youth hostel feeling.

I had 2 reservations with this hostel. One reservation I asked the hostel to change the dates of the reservation 2 days before and they would not change it to accommodate me. When I asked for a refund for a 1 night, it was denied. The 2nd reservation was affected because Malta wouldn't allow me to quarantine in the hostel but only their own hotel. I called Ruth to explain the situation and she started scolding me for not knowing the Covid requirements for entering into Malta as well as let me know that it was my fault that I chose this booking. There are many contradictions on the internet regarding Malta requirements to enter. There were several people on the same flight who weren't allowed into the country for various issues where they had been told wrong. Even Air Malta didn't tell me that I needed both vaccinations to enter. I felt that keeping $90 wasn't right given the circumstances of the situation. There was no grace for something outside of my control.

Your chosen reservation rate plan was nonrefundable and that is the only reason why we could not refund you .Of course I pointed out that when travelling abroad during a pandemic you need to check and recheck the country's regulations and restrictions . Malta's restrictions have been in force since July 2021 and have not changed since . Moreover all booking engines point out that it is always best to choose a flexi rataplan rather than the cheaper option of the nonrefundable rate plan . I am truly sorry you took it that way and that we did not get the chance to meet you in person and to offer you our hospitality . Our procedure is to offer travel credit in these cases , this is valid up to 2021Dec. we would like to still extend this offer to you . Let's start with the positive part! The staff of the hostel is very nice, the terrasse on top is great. The location is actually very good with a lot of bars and restaurants, close to the see, and the buses just down will bring you to almost anywhere in Malta.
However, on the negative side: I really did not like my room. It was very humid and hot, even with the air conditioning "running" at night, smelling quite bad with no window (one that was completely blocked by a bunk bed). Also, I was supposed to stay in an other hostel but was change to her without informations on why, neither if I was OK with that. And lastely, I this is written in the middle of Covid 19 pandemic : they were absolutely no observations of sanitary measures : no masks, no gel, no distance, and parties on top with a lot of people.

Came here with my hockey club for our tour. The hostel staff were so friendly and helpful. The palace was so clean, staff cleaned the rooms, toilets and showers everyday. Drinks prices were reasonable and staff would often share out free drink too. Great experience of my first party hostel. Would definitely come back here with friends/hockey

Drinks from the bar at the reception were too expensive where from other shops down stairs were just one fourth of the price. Not worth buying a drink from there. Thank you, but NO THANK YOU!!
And No diet soft drinks were available!

I stayed at Marco Polo hostel for a week on my recent trip to Malta. The location is just perfect, right in the center. Great connectivity to all public bus routes, lots of shops, places to eat and bars around. The staff is very helpful too and they helped me in planning daily activities and provided some great recommendations. They have a rooftop bar, a good place to hang out, and provide pasta for dinner once in a week too. Overall highly recommended.

Staff were all very friendly and great fun. Has a nice rooftop bar with great vibes, drink prices are very reasonable with good deals on cocktails. Would definitely recommend to a solo traveller or with a couple friends to meet new people.

Hello Ayodeji,
There weren't that many people when I stayed there, for 3 weeks in November, but there were a decent number I would say.
They told me that November is quiet, but it really picks up coming up to Christmas.
The people were very friendly, both guests and staff, and the age range I would say was between 20-35.
I meant to visit Hostel Malti, but never got around to it. From what I understand Malti is much smaller, a bit busier, but still great.
The location of Marco Polo suited me a bit better.
Also, keep in mind that they organize BBQ's and nights out, so there is almost always something to do in Marco Polo.
You can't beat the rooftop either :)
There are more places to choose from in the Saint Julian's area.
