Drinks from the bar at the reception were too expensive where from other shops down stairs were just one fourth of the price. Not worth buying a drink from there. Thank you, but NO THANK YOU!! And No diet soft drinks were available! Overall At least staff were friendly!

Hi, guys! Thank you very much for welcoming me in your hostel last week! I met incredible individuals and had overall amazing first experience with Malta. Yaseer, Alberto and rest of the staff(no matter of their job position) were always checking if everything is ok and if I need anything. Small note is in regards of the hygiene in the bathrooms and toilets which I already saw in some previous reviews. Not going to discuss deeper as I don’t want to ruin the main point here… you’re very warm and welcoming people! Thank you for having me once again. Will definitely stop by for a drink when I move to Malta next month.

A modern hostel full of character and a host to a highly enticing vibe. Really lovely, happy staff who will support you with any of your needs. Weekends are such fun with the shortest of walks to the centre of the lovely St Julian’s.

From the first moment we stepped into the Hostel we experienced the social and warm enviroment. Friendly and helpfull staff checked us in and everybody in the hostel seemed to be likeminded about having a good time. What we especially liked about the hostel was the rooftop, where we've had the best parties. After all clubs close down at 02.00 the party starts at Marco Polo. Before going clubbing Marco Polo is also a great place to start your evening to meet new people. During the day the rooftops serves as a perfect place to chillout and possibly to get some work done. Even after checking out we found our way back to Marco Polo, as this remained our most preferred place to go. Special thanks to Chris (the owner) and the rest of the staff. We would definetely recommend staying at Marco Polo. We would surely come back to this place in future trips to Malta.

I had 2 reservations with this hostel. One reservation I asked the hostel to change the dates of the reservation 2 days before  and they would not change it to accommodate me. When I asked for a refund for a 1 night, it was denied. The 2nd reservation was affected because Malta wouldn't allow me to quarantine in the hostel but only their own hotel. I called Ruth to explain the situation and  she started scolding me for not knowing the Covid requirements for entering into Malta  as well as let me know that it was my fault that I chose this booking. There are many contradictions on the internet regarding Malta requirements to enter. There were several people on the same flight who weren't allowed  into the country for various issues where they had been told wrong.  Even Air Malta didn't tell me that I needed both vaccinations to enter. I felt that keeping $90 wasn't right given the circumstances of the situation. There was no grace for something outside of my control.

Hi , thank you for finding time to review us , I extend my apologies if you feel that I "scolded" you , I assure you that it was not the case and I am truly sorry you took it that way . Your chosen reservation rate plan was nonrefundable and that is the only reason why we could not refund you .Of course I pointed out that when travelling abroad during a pandemic you need to check and recheck the country's regulations and restrictions . Malta's restrictions have been in force since July 2021 and have not changed since . Moreover all booking engines point out that it is always best to choose a flexi rataplan rather than the cheaper option of the nonrefundable rate plan . I am truly sorry you took it that way and that we did not get the chance to meet you in person and to offer you our hospitality . Our procedure is to offer travel credit in these cases , this is valid up to 2021Dec. we would like to still extend this offer to you . Should you accept kindly email us with your new dates on hello@marcopolomalta.com Best regards Ruth

When booking Marco Polo you really need to consider what type of stay you want. This is primarily a party vibe type of place, so if you're after luxury or cleanliness as a priority for your stay, you're not really going to get it here. However, if you want to party and make friends, this is your place. The rooftop terrace is great for chilling out and making friends. Everyone is always so friendly and up for talking and meeting new people. The bar is generally well stocked and at about 1pm every night the entire rooftop basically turns into a nightclub and the music carries on until 4am. There's a pool table, ample seating and also toilets upstairs. My room was directly below the rooftop, but even when the music was playing I couldn't hear the music playing which was great if you wanted to get up early. The rooms are okay, the beds are quite comfortable, but I'd urge you to consider the rooms. A private room or a 12-bed dorm are probably the best options. The 6-bed dorms are very cramped and get very hot even with the aircon on (10pm-10am). When the aircon is off the place is basically like an oven. The 12-bed dorms have a balcony and are really roomy, so I would suggest you go with these if you're intending on staying in a dorm - plus they're cheaper. Each bed has a locker and these are very big and roomy and use your key. They're very secure and you don't need to bring your own padlock. The main thing about this hostel though is that cleanliness does not seem to be a priority here. The showers were, in liue of a better word, filthy. It made me laugh that there always seemed to be someone mopping the dorm floor or corridor, but it didn't seem like anyone cared about scrubbing out the showers. They all had brown stains and dirty shower curtains. One shower flooded the corridor every time it was used. The showers were a good temperature though and really good water pressure which you don't always get in a hostel. The staff were very mixed. A few of the staff were friendly, especially the guys on the bar, but I have to say the majority of the reception staff were pretty miserable, verging on rude. The girl that checked me and others in kept moaning about her job the whole time and how busy she was all the time. She made it feel like checking us in was a very big inconvenience. I don't think she smiled the whole week! The guy on the reception in the evening didn't even acknowledge you when you walked past. To be honest though, I found this comical and gave me something to chuckle about every time I passed them. This location has a great location as it's right in the middle of St Julian's, very close to Paceville, St George's Bay and Spinola Bay. It's very good for young people, but definitely not the kind of place for families or people looking for a quieter break. I would probably stay here again as it's convenient, not too expensive and the vibe was good for me. However, I know some people I met at the hostel just couldn't cope with the lack of aircon and had to check out early.

If you are wondering about this hostel I’m going to tell you what to expect when you arrive and while staying there. Basically you will be exposed to sick people who might have COVID-19 and they won’t do nothing about it but you shouldn’t confront them (being ironic) because they’ll tell you that you are a grown ass person and you should shut your mouth.

This hotel does not comply with any rules of the covid. No distance, employees wear their masks when they want (not always) they make reservations and then at the last minute cancel reservations. They prepare disgusting dishes for 10euros in order to enjoy the rooftop. If you don't eat the meal, they'll kick you out. They are very poorly organized and the manager is violent towards the customers. Very unprofessional team... They are trying to find solutions to stay open despite the covid. But do not respect the rules of hygiene at all. They should be referred to the authorities

Be aware this is a party hostel. Even partying and traveling during COVID isn’t that big. This hostel has still the feeling as there was a party the night before. Toilets and showers are disgusting. Doors and windows are broken. It all looks very sloppy. The staff isn’t paying attention at all to any covid measures (social distancing, mask, washing hands). There are no dispensers of alcohol gel. Staff is not wearing mask, even during check-in or in communication with clients. I stayed in other hostel during this pandemic. Never seen such a non-responsible behaviour. Maybe it was coincidence, but the evening I arrived, 35 working migrants from Romania checked in. Their boss was even smoking inside and not wearing a mask. For more than 1h there were 30 people in the bar without a mask. No youth hostel feeling.

People here are super social and the place is a platform for travelers who want to meet both locals and other travelers. It creates a lot of potential. I enjoyed my stay a lot and I even booked for another time. All employees there do a perfect job and I especially liked Eszter, Bryan and Gaia who I was most in touch with and who were at disposal any time when needed. Thanks a lot for this nice experience and making my stay great!!;)
