At the third attempt my wife and I finally got to have our honeymoon in what I can only describe as an amazing hotel. All the staff, check-in, concierge, housekeeping were all extremely polite and helpful. We chose Malta initially as we both had not been to the island before, and the hotel criteria was "child free", which Hugo's is. The website photos are exactly as to what you get . The hotel is very lavish, with no expense spared on decoration on both the inside, and outside of the hotel. The rooms are kept well maintained, windows / balcony doors are double glazed to drown out the hustle and bustle of the day and nightlife , blackout curtains help to keep out the neon lights of this lively district. There is an infinity pool and bar on the roof, which is very popular, and in the current climate the number of persons around the pool is limited, but a cocktail in the bar area is an alternative, with staff on hand to wait on you as you relax and take in view of the bay, and surrounding area. My wife and I had 12 fantastic days at Hugo's, and the breakfast in the morning set us up for the day, with a choice from a buffet style bar of traditional English breakfast items to a European cold meats selection / pastries, vegetarian, and a small selection of cakes. The staff at breakfast were all great, very polite, and always had time to talk to you. A very special thank you to a young lady by the name of Ranjita, she was there most mornings, very cheerful , you could see her smile underneath her facemask ! She made us feel so welcome, not just another of the many guests that went through the hotels doors. A thank you too to the duty manager, who also was very friendly and pleasant , he ensured everything run smoothly each morning. As for food, Hugo's is a brand in the area that has a very good reputation, not only on the quality of food, but price. From the hotel you are no more than a few minutes from a Hugo's branded eatery, whether you fancy something lavish, or just a pizza or a burger, which we sampled a couple of nights, and they were delicious. There is a lot of construction going on around the whole area, and not 24/7, but this is happening in the populated areas of the island, and did not affect our stay at all, as once we had a few hours by the pool, we were either wandering around the area, or diving. We have already decided to return next year, and hopefully the standards we have seen this visit still be there upon our return.

I was able to stay in the hugo's hotel for 2 nights in a suite with Jacuzzi. All the buildings around see you when you are on your terrace enjoying the sun. Then for the price of the night I found it pitiful that there were no sunbeds allocated for the pool. I wanted to order a coke and a bottle of water and we waited more than 30 minutes. During breakfast, we were "jumped" on while a nice waitress was already taking care of us. We were asked to remain seated as it was a buffet, but 5 minutes later some customers were going back and forth. And we can't move because the manager has forbidden us to do so... I was really disappointed with the customer service, knowing the price of the rooms. By the way the spa is amazing. But we won't be back

The good Breakfast is excellent, service in that part of the hotel mostly attentive and polite. Great view from pool area Well air conditioned rooms The bad The pool area plays ‘lounge’ music from dusk to dawn. ‘Lounge’ is bland pop house, relentless and often so loud you cannot chat, make yourself understood to the servers or read. Drinks, really cheap ‘saver’ versions of everything and you can (well we could) tell instantly, Rather expensive cocktails in plastic glasses - really sub standard and over priced (we found a magical cocktail bar in Valetta serving real 1st class cocktails for just under half the price) Food on the sun deck really is ‘basic’ certainly not boutique - and pretty pricey - typical €18-22 euro for basic burger etc. Better quality ingredients. There’s building work ALL AROUND that started on one or two days at 7.30am. It’s not quiet or restful here. Summary Great if your 18-25 and on a jolly. NOT boutique, style over substance in most areas. Feedback to management Work a good policy for the public pool area, at least have some variety - ask a consultant to look at this. At one point when the volume was cranked up at the regular 12 midday slit we saw - over the course of the next 15m - at least 8-10 people pack up and leave. If your not sure listen to some of the classic pool/beach mixes from Cafe Mambo/jockey club Ibiza/café del mare for a guide. Musics to create a pleasant mood, sometimes with energy, sometimes peaceful and interesting. This was DULL AND LOUD. The food and drink on the pool is obviously the cheapest money can buy and this shows. Come by a few times and look how many are eating here - it will tell you all you need to know. Having been all over I’d grade this as a decent 3* that has several key issues.

Dear DougCOsborne, Thank you for your detailed feedback. We're delighted we could have the opportunity to host you while you were in Malta and appreciate you sharing your helpful suggestions. While we are glad to know your overall stay was pleasant, we apologize for any disappointment resulting from your experience at our Infinity pool. This is certainly not the experience nor the image that we wished for you to have. Your feedback has been shared with all of the concerned departments and we are already working to ensure such shortfalls are rectified and prevented in the future. If I may gently explain, Pre-Covid our facilities such as the pool deck were exclusive to hotel guests and it was only during these last 2 summer seasons that we extended access to local guests because as you might acknowledge, we had to consider alternative options in our build to recovery. Having said that this should never come to the detriment of our loyal hotel guests. Should your travel plans have you returning to the island in the future, please do not hesitate to contact me at firas.aboulezz@hugoshotels.com, as it would be my pleasure to assist with your booking personally and ensure a seamless experience next time. Thank you for your choosing Hugo's Hotels and we hope to be presented with an opportunity to better serve you soon! Kind regards, Firas Aboulezz Hotel General Manager

Lovely hotel and reception staff exceptional… rooms spacious and very clean and even though the outside is very loud at night the sound proofing blocked most of it out. We were provided with a kettle within minutes of asking and assistance with tv promptly. The pool area lets it down by letting locals in …our first day was like a scene from love island and as the day progressed they became louder (drunk) as well as the DJ upping the volume! Smoking and drinking was allowed in the pool too! Spent the rest of the holiday on the beach! Asked for late check out room but told no need as we could use a room in the spa? This was a cupboard in which there was a shower/toilet and lockers! We were told there was a hair dryer which there wasn’t and couldn’t provide one! The staff were obviously put out by our invasion of their space and quite rude… thank goodness I hadn’t paid for treatments!

Dear Inspire45327155344, Thank you for your candid comments and for sharing your experience. These last 18 months have been very difficult for all associates thus saying that you found high standards of service and very helpful staff is very motivating and rewarding. We always strive to deliver excellent service and memorable experiences, and your positive feedback is indeed encouraging for us to continue doing our best to look after our guests. The experience you described at the SPA is not characteristic of the level of service our associates strive to provide and I will ensure to share your comments with the respective department in an effort to prevent this issue from occurring in the future. In the interim, we at Hugo's Hotels look forward to welcoming you back at our hotel in the nearby future. Warm wishes, Firas Aboulezz Hotel General Manager

We visited the Hugo hotel in St Julians Malta in August 2021. Very nice hotel. Lovely big room and a lovely rooftop pool. The area it is located is right next to the party street known as Paceville. Very busy at night but we were able to sleep because the room was soundproofed and it faced away from the noise. However, the pool area got very crowded because of lical people being allowed to use the pool. They take over in the afternoon- sitting on the edge of the pool. They can bring their drinks to the edge and smoke in the pool. The music is very loud. This spoilt our experience somewhat. Luckily, the main part of St Julians is a short walk away and suited us mych better. Lots of nice restuarants and a prettier place.

Dear karengE4607DR, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We are so very glad to have welcomed you, and to learn that you enjoyed our 'lovely big rooms' at H Hotel. I am sorry to learn that your experience at our Infinity pool fell short of your expectations as this is certainly not the experience that we strive to deliver. Pre-Covid, our facilities have always been exclusive to hotel guests and as we continue with our recovery to normality our plans are that as of next year this is reinstated. It was only during these past 2 summer seasons that we have welcomed local guests. We hope you will allow us another chance to better serve you the next time your travels bring you to Malta. Kind regards, Firas Aboulezz Hotel General Manager
