We stayed for one night at this comfort inn hotel ..its close to the city around about a five minute drive ..good car parking which is free ( a bonus these days ) on our arrival we were met by a lovely friendly receptionist who was very helpful, the interior fittings Are of an old premier inn and although comfortable are in need of an upgrade refurbishment...very nice soft bed ..and a good nights sleep although it can be very noisy as its close to a Main road leading into the city..so don't sleep with your window open.. one slight disappointment is it advertises breakfast included? This isn't the case! Breakfast comes in a bag.. so very misleading be aware ! But overall a very nice tired hotel which does the job for a short break.

Although this Inn is very tired looking and the bedrooms need updating I gave it a 4* because the bed was fantastic and we had a great nights sleep - very important to us. Also, the lady on the desk was so nice and welcoming. Parking was easy and it was en route to the Stadium of Light where we witnessed a 5-0 win for the Black Cats. Breakfast needs improving upon with the ‘grab bags’ contents.

The Sunderland Inn is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. I have never had a better nights sleep as the bed was so comfortable. The staff are really friendly, helpful and efficient. It is very clean and comfortable. I intend going back as soon and as often as I can.

Spent a night at this hotel due to work. It’s clearly an old premiere inn and as such the fittings etc are a little tired. The staff were friendly and helpful and the bed very comfortable, I was provided with a breakfast bag too. For the price I paid I really can’t fault it. Would stay again without hesitation.

Having received the standard response from the hotel, i.e. "Please revisit and we will try harder.", I sent the following email but received no reply. Thank you for your prompt response and I wish to stress that my critical comments were NOT directed at the Comfort Inn staff. My wife and I found all members of staff without exception to be chatty, friendly and helpful. It is such a shame that they were let down by sub-standard accommodation. You must be aware that the hotel is in dire need of a major refurbishment? We stayed at these premises when they were a Premier Inn and nothing has changed, except for signs of wear and tear that have not been addressed. We were allocated Room 19 and noted the following problems:- 1. A massive stain on the ceiling, above the bed. It looked as though the room above had been flooded. 2. The non-slip surface of the bath was worn, so that it looked dirty. Before we used the bath, we felt we should rub antibacterial gel on the area and rinse it off with boiling water. 3. The trim under the basin was worn and disintegrating. 4. There are marks and chipped paintwork, throughout the room. 5. Whilst eating our packed breakfast on Wednesday morning, a wood louse ran out from under the bed and disappeared again, before I could dispose of it. This made us feel extremely uncomfortable. 6. The external areas of the hotel are dirty and littered. Our stay at this hotel is not an experience that we will repeat. We are extremely disappointed with the standard of the premises but appreciate the efforts of the staff there, who tried to make the best of poor accommodation.

Response from General Manager, General Manager at Comfort Inn Sunderland
Responded Jul 19, 2020
Hi, Thank you for your review following your stay. As you can imagine, we are restricted on our maintenance team due to Covid 19, so the slight mark on ceiling can’t be painted until team feel it safe to come back. As for the wood lice, we have to keep windows open when we enter room to help air the room out, yet again to ensure it airs properly before we enter rooms to clean these, so the likes of little bugs would come in like it does in peoples homes. Throughout your 7 days of staying with us, none of these issues were mentioned and if it was, we could have looked at moving you both, to another room. The property is obviously not for you so we wish you all luck in future.

This was a Premier Inn once, you can tell from the purple everywhere. Our room was spacious and the beds comfortable. The front desk was pleasant and helpful. The price was right and there were plenty of parking spaces.

Down by the river this accommodation is quiet and friendly with plenty of parking and nearby supermarkets. Fairly central location. Comfortable beds, spacious rooms and good value. Will use again. Recommended for those on a tight budget.

The Comfort Inn us a good choice if you're looking for a low cost place to stay near the Stadium of Light. It's nowhere fancy but it clean and comfortable. Until fairly recently it was a Premier Inn and not much has changed since the rebranding so you know what you're getting. As sone other reviews have pointed out, breakfast isn't great but to be fair what do you expect for £40 a night?

Stayed here for 1 night with work, its basically an out dated premier inn the rooms are clean and the bed was ok but nothing to shout about. breakfast included is a little poor as they don't have a kitchen but its better than nothing at all you basically get a carrier bag with a bottle of water, cereal bar, how water porridge pot from aldi and a bun. all in all it was an okay stay just very dated.
