Keen on experiencing Ice Driver Ltd's driving on a frozen lake (highly recommended), I arranged a 6 night stay at the nearby Vestlia resort, accompanied by 2 friends. We booked 2x "Suite 1 bedroom" (Half-board). Our stay left us with a really mixed view of the resort, with some things we saw as really excellent and some things just very poor, with very little in between. I'll list them so readers can decide whether they are important to them or not... Excellent: Room accomodation: spacious, appealingly decorated, comfortable and well appointed (smart TV, kitchen facilities, etc) Spa (additional fee to enter): quiet, relaxing, decent facilities (pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, cold plunge tub). Spa staff: well trained, helpful and unobtrusive Gym: fully kitted, clean, light and airy Restaurant food: All fantastic. Breakfast is buffet - high quality and huge variety available. Half-board evening menu is fixed 3 course menu (with mild tinkering if not to your liking), but everything served was delicious - on 3 nights there was an evening buffet instead, not my favourite form of dining, but again the quality of the food available was outstanding. Restaurant staff: Well trained, helpful, funny. There was a Latvian waiter that we were particularly impressed with. Ski equipment: Top quality equipment available for hire. Very Poor: Servicing of room: 3 days and no service at all! We had to go and seek fresh towels and coffee via reception in the end. Reception staff: Just lacking in the service culture you'd expect from a higher-end hotel. No resort orientation or room information provided when checking in, no response when complained that room hadn't been cleaned. Ski hire staff: electronic check-ins were useful and should have decreased the time spent getting skis but the process was let down by slow and lazy staff. Compared to many trips to France, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, USA, Canada and Japan - the worst I've encountered. Other things: Skiing: ski area is limited in size and all runs are short and easy (hills rather than mountains) - so absolutely perfect for beginners, but not very interesting for anyone at intermediate or above. There's a large swimming pool in the resort (in addition to the spa) free to guests. It tended to get busy with children, so great if you have a family, but less so if you just want a relaxing swim - pay for the Spa pool instead, if that is the case. A bowling alley is available, as is the hiring of snow shows and cross-country skis. I saw quite a few fat-tyred push-bikes too, so I suspect they were available to hire as well. Overall we enjoyed our stay but it could have been brilliant if the staff on reception, those cleaning rooms and those managing ski hire were as good at their jobs as those in the restaurant and spa.…
We found the hotel to be very comfortable with good F&B, nice swimming pool area and great location for skiing. At times somewhat busy, but given the spacious set-up never a problem. Highly recommended for families with children.
The SPA is beautiful with a very good massage menu. Book in advance. We had a great experience in the restaurant and amazing wine provided by a very service minded somalier. The best part is that you can just step outside and you are at the bottom of the ski lift, or right next to the crosscountry ski trails.
This was one of the most AWESOME resorts I have ever stayed in my life. I have travelled a lot and have stayed at best places across the world, but this was one of my best experiences. Pros : 1. 5* ambience throughout the resort. 2. Courteous staff 3. Huge pool 4. Beautiful spacious rooms 5. Reasonably priced 6. Huge dining hall 7. Excellent Service Cons : 1. Limited food options. In fact none catering to Indian tourists who were there in large numbers 2. Limited Categories of English books in the library. But overall the Pros outweigh the cons. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Warm, comfortable, clean with polite people working there, but the whole place is on the tired side. Food was good, was unusual that the main evening meal was a three course set meal, but we did know that when we booked it, and it was nice food. Breakfast was a big buffet, good selection and constantly topped up. The room was tired, and on the small side, but clean and the beds were comfortable. The shower was particularly small. Interesting to see another reviewer stated to get a refurbished room, I think this is good advice having obviously had an older room.
