If you traver with car its is rather close to Stavanger. It is very convinient to stop when traveling from Kristiansand to Bergen. Stavanger is worth to visit, perhaps one day could be enough time to visit this city.

I was in Stavanger on a business trip and spent a night at Thon. Nice hotel albeit, a bit dated. The most interesting thing about my stay was the view from my room. Simply stunning!
The room was just okay and had a well stocked minibar. The restaurant was a disappointment though as there was insufficient variety.

Came a day early, due to a misunderstanding, but the staff was very helpful in accomodating us. Our kids got to go on a treasure hunt, find a jewel and got a reward afterwards! The two rooms we got, with a door inbetween were small and a bit "tired", but nevertheless very functional.

The hotel has a big playroom in the basement, fresh newspapers and coffee for the parents while the kids play, fight, draw and jump on the trampoline. I was impressed.

Breakfast was good, plenty to choose from. They had a play-area for kids, where they had set up a buffet for the kids. Our kids could find different spreads, juices, fruits, plates, cups and utensils, in addition to yoghurt and cerials. They loved it and ate like crazy, since the whole experience was different and FUN.

It doesn't take a lot of extra things to really stand out, but as a family of five, with kids at 3, 5 and 7, who travels a bit, these small things (fresh newpapers, buffet for kids) made this absolutely the BEST hotel experience with kids we've had!

Norwegian faulty towers without the humour. It says it has a gym, on arrival its a small room, there is broken spin bike, half a dozen mismatched weights and a old multi-gym which has ropes tethering some of the attachments. I would suggest the hotel drops the inclusion of 'gym' and advertises running routes instead. On the first night the fire alarm went off every 5 to 15mins from 9pm to 10.30pm. The shower head in the bathroom is split so when you switch on the shower, you get waterboarded. Breakfast was okay, if you like tepid coffee and half-cooked potato wedges. Its in a nice location and it was great to get out of the hotel and walk into Sandnes. Its a shame, it's crying out for investment.

We stayed just for one night and came at the time of the ONS Energy Exhibition during which the hotels take full advantage of all the guest coming in. This hotel charged the exorbitant price of Nok 2.385 per room/night (one person) equals to Usd 400. This level is completely beyond proportions for a hotel that is in need of renovation and not even close to the city centre.
The rooms are very simple, the carpets in the corridor full of stains and the overall appearance leaves much to be desired. The only positive experience was the reception staff that was friendly, efficient and somewhat embarrassed.
We Norwegians need not wonder why the tourists stay away from our otherwise lovely country.

I was quite pleased overall with the Thon Sandnes except that the price was quite high considering that the rooms and hallways are a bit worn and in general I would say the place needs a make over...The staff at the front desk were excellent and very, very helpful answering my questions.
One important thing to know is that the breakfast area is on a second floor and there is not elevator. If you are handicapped, there is no alternative to walking the stairs to breakfast and make sure you ask for a first floor hotel room.
Breakfast was excellent and coffee is 24/7 at the front desk. Internet connection is free and quite fast. I would say it is a good three star rating but for Americans it is easy to get price shock not only at this hotel but also in most every hotel in Norway.
I made my reservation for two days at this hotel at the last minute. Maybe there are better prices if made further in advance....but I doubt it....

Rooms were little more than a motel
Spartan and bare
Prices were astronomical 1650 Norwegian kroner and that was corporate rate.
There are only a few things on the main menu and I took a main course on one night.
Norwegian traditional consisting of 5 small meat balls 5 new potatoes on a bed of red cabbage price 256 NK getting on for £30
Breakfast was not too bad with eggs bacon and beans. There was also a choice of sandwich fillers for traditional smaargasbord. Breakfast included in price.
No smoking in any rooms Smoking area just outside main entrance door. Pretty miserable experience when it is raining, which it was most of the time.
There is free hot coffee at reception 24/7

There are far better deals to be had in the centre of town where prices range from 700-900 kr.
Unfortunately this hotel was booked by client

Would I stay there again?
Not by choice! and you need a car as taxis are extortionate

Well, the title says it all I suppose. The hotel isn't in the centre of either Sandnes or Stavanger but you don't always want that, do you? I stayed overnight on two occasions, each room was clean throughout, quiet and cool enough in the warm weather we were having. Both were particularly spacious and each had a fully stocked mini-bar.

Breakfast was offered in the adjacent building, offering the standard high quality Scandic provision.

Staff in particular were excellent: friendly, keen to help and seemingly genuine.

Carpets need replacing, door locks were held in place/wedged into doors with screws. Punch-cards still being used as door locking mechanism.
No lift available for guests. No aircon in rooms, terrible stay. Service was non-existent. Not what I would expect from a hotel associated with Thon Hotels.

Will not be staying here again and will be advising both colleagues and friends to avoid at all costs.
