I can just confirm what the other positive reviews say. We saw the hotel on our drive towards Hardangervidda and thought it´d be a nice way to end our camping vacation. Didn´t get disappointed. The room was nice, although you could see that the last renovation was already some time ago. Still didn´t seem run-down to us. There are lots...

This is a very old, very quiet hotel, away from the bustle of even a small town. Bring a good book and / or some hiking shoes, because there is not a lot to do except see the spectacular falls, walk around the countryside, and relax in and around the hotel. Before we went, we really wondered if it would...

A place full of history and with a magical touch! Because of the location and the amazing view, we could experience nature at its full power. Moreover, I discovered that this place has a CitoCode "FOSS", that is a "virtual address". Since it was our first time in Norway by car, we entered the "FOSS" in the Cito free app,...

Fossli hotel has a perfect location right on the edge of Norway's most famous waterfall, the Vøringsfossen. You can't avoid hearing it and you can't stop enjoying the superb views. The hotel is set on the perimeter of the vast highland plateau of Hardangervidda, a national park, and a close drive to one of the longest fjords, Hardangervidda. The hotel...

A real relic from the past. This classic mountain hotel is steeped in over 100 years of history. If you're wanting modern creature comforts like TVs, you'll be disappointed, although you will get free wifi. Location-wise, it is above and about 30m away from the Vorinfossen viewing platform so you can't actually see the waterfall from your room but you...

You can enjoy the magnificent Fossli waterfalls without staying at the Fossli hotel. Upsides: location of hotel, history of its founding decades ago, memorabilia throughout hotel. Downsides: cavernous dining room - zero atmosphere and uninspired menu, no TVs in room and no fire or other warmth in the TV room (guests were shivering in the cave-like room which has a...

The Hotel is in The most spectacular Location, right at the top of the Voringsfossen, and from the front rooms the view is just amazing. The building itself was built in the late 19th century completely out of wood. It has a great charm of bygone days. The public areas all were decorated in the 1960s and have not been...

The hotel has great charisma! You could imagine seeing your British great great grandmother living there! Staff af desk were super friendly! Beware, there is no elevator (but the staff helps you to carry your bags, dont worry) and there is really NOTHING to do in the area. it is a very isolated place. Rooms are very old and basic...

Having left Haugesund quite late, on our way to Oslo, we needed somewhere to stay for the night. We remembered having read about this historic hotel and decided to try it out. As soon as we walked in we felt as if we were walking in to a history book. I'm not sure when they last upgraded the hotel -...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Fossli Hotel is situated at the innermost end of the Hardanger Fjord. The hotel affords a magnificent view over the Mabo Valley and the 182m Voringsfoss Waterfall. The hotel is tastefully and comfortably designed by the famous Norwegian architect Konow Lund. It was build in 1891, which was 25 years before the road was build, and all the materials were carried on horseback to the top. Edvard Grieg used to be a regular guest at Fossli Hotel and wrote his Opus 66 here. Fossil Hotel today offers 60 rooms, a nice restaurant, a café, and a fully licensed bar. ... more   less
