Beautiful Daintree rainforest accommodation near Cape Tribulation just 5 mins from lovely Cow Bay beach and overlooking the World Heritage Daintree national park. The main accommodation house is Queenslander style and has four en-suite rooms (single, standard double and large double/family size) each with private balconies, a large open-plan living area and extensive verandahs...the perfect place to relax and have a 'real' holiday!. For couples or small groups looking for even more privacy or independent accommodation, the Golden Orchid Retreat is a gorgeous self-contained cabin separate from the main accommodation house with views across the orchard to Noah's Range. Operating on solar power and rainwater as much as possible, the Epiphyte B&B has landscaped gardens to explore, views to take in and rainforest at the back door. Beautiful Cow Bay, where the rainforest meets the sea and reef, is a short drive away. A home away from home, The Epiphyte is airy, casual, friendly and breakfast featuring seasonal fruit is included in the room tariff. Help yourself to tea, coffee or a cool drink anytime. Play games, read a book, take in the stunning mountain views, swim, snorkel, visit the free board walks and/or join one of the many tours available in the Cape Tribulation, Daintree Coast area e.g snorkeling, fishing, canoeing, 4WD trips to Wujal Wujal, jungle surfing, night and day walks in ancient rainforest. It's a beautiful place to stay any time of year!! We'd love to share it with you.

Matt is a great guy & I had a lovely stay. I look forward to returning in the future at some stage with my parents. It’s lovely that Matt rewards return customers too.

The view from the shared veranda is beautiful and I really loved being surrounded by the gorgeous forest, built up by Matt over the years, and the beautiful wildlife. Laying on the veranda was a highlight.

Matt’s knowledge of the area is amazing and he is so willing to share it, with his passion clear. I got so much more out of my trip because of him, in the way of seeing the local swimming holes and deserted beaches. He’s also super willing to book anything in for you too.

I loved my time with Jester the horse. Being able to feed him and take him for a walk, it was such a highlight for me and I’m so thankful to Matt.

The accomodation itself is basic but all you need. I found it to be clean, and despite being on solar and batteries, didn’t have any issues with showers or charging etc. You are required to take shoes off inside and there’s specific bins for everything. It does get very loud when there’s a couple of families with children and because the accommodation is shared (separate rooms in the one house), it makes it hard to get away from the noise unfortunately. This was definitely the biggest downfall for me on the second night.

The fruit breakfast was yum and I enjoyed learning about the different varieties.
I feel quite relaxed from my stay and would certainly recommend.

Thanks Matt and Jester!

If you want to connect with nature? Then this is the place to stay.

This beautiful property is located 15 minutes from the ferry and 30 mins from cape tribulation.

We were greeted by Matt the friendly host when we arrived. He explained the property and layout of the area, he sat us down and gave us a map and told us of the best places to go.

We had a beautiful room with a balcony that also had a bed incase you wanted to sleep outside. That’s what we did and it was amazing.

Drifting off to sleep with rain gently falling, dingos howling and a light display from fireflies.
The mornings were just as beautiful with the sound of the rainforest birds waking up and welcoming the day.

Breakfast was served on the deck over looking the beautiful gardens.where all the guest gathered to enjoy the amazing fruit platter Matt created. You get one big plate of tropical fruits to share per couple and one plate if travelling alone.
Along with toast and a selection of homemade jams from the locals and delicious lemon butter from the church ladies. As Matt is all about sustainability and supporting locals.

A restaurant is 2 minutes drive up the road. Where they also do night tours of the rainforest which was awesome.

Matt’s place was a perfect place to stay.! Being in a great location meant you could go in either direction. And only a 5 minutes drive from cow bay beach. Epiphyte B&B certainly live up to its name as Matt recycles everything and you really do feel you make a very little impact on this beautiful environment staying there.

If you’re unsure where to visit when you’re up north, Matt is more than happy to go through it with you when you get there.

Thanks so much Matt for your hospitality! We can’t wait to return.

Diane & Alan

Stayed at the Epiphyte B&B for 2 nights in the stand alone Hibiscus cottage and had an enjoyable stay. The location is secluded but easy to find by following the signs to Cow Bay. The cottage is separate to the main B&B in its own grounds on the same gravel track. The cottage has everything you need for a few days with a fully usable kitchen, outdoor toilet, bath and shower, outdoor seating and hammock and a comfortable bed. There is no WiFi and no TV but it’s really not necessary. Also no air con which can be a bit uncomfortable on humid nights.

The best part about this accommodation is probably the owner, Matt. He is super knowledgable about the local area and beyond and helped us plan our time there very well, marking all recommended visits on a map both in the Daintree / Cape Tribulation area and south of the river for our inland drive south.

Breakfast is really nice, a big selection of fruit most of which is grown in the orchard, toast, homemade preserves, cereal and drinks. The grounds are all very beautiful and well maintained.

Would definitely stay here again if returning to the area.

I’ve enjoyed the stay in Epiphyte in every single aspect. Every mornig you can go wash yourself in a creek near by (if you want, shower is there too). Then you have breakfast with lots of fruits (most of them you’ve never heard of), delicious marmalades and jams from church ladies (the best was chilli jam) and cereals. Coffee and tea is also included. Than you recieve detailed briefing (if you want) to know everything you can do nearby. We’ve been there for 4 nights and it was just enough to do the main things there. You get really lots of wildlife there (cassowaries, crocodiles, reptiles, butterflies, all kinds of plants, atc.). One of the things I most enjoyed was the adventure bed. Shortly said, it’s bed outside on the porch. Another amazing thing about the Epiphyte is that it is running mainly on rain water and electricity from solar pannels.

I'll try to do Matt's heavenly retreat justice. Everything exceeded our expectations. We stayed in the 2 cabins with our 2 boys (11 & 13), the smaller cabin is close to the main house and the larger one is a few mins walk away. Both are gorgeous and have everything you need for a relaxing and comfortable stay. The cabins are bigger and even lovelier than they look in the photos. We loved having our very own pet horse "Jester" at the big cottage and being surrounded by lush rainforest. Matt was the perfect host ensuring we knew about all of the best highlights of the area including a fantastic local waterhole 5 mins from the property with a swing for the kids. All of the surrounding beaches are stunning and we loved our trip to the Reef with Ocean Rafting. Matt had our fabulous tropical fruit breakfast ready for us every morning mostly from his own on site orchard. Make sure you try the Daintree Tea! We loved hearing about Matt's amazing adventures while enjoying the serenity of the surrounds. There is a good restaurant at the resort just down the road. My phone worked well (Optus) but my husband's Telstra reception was limited. We absolutely loved every minute of our stay at Epiphyte. Thank you Matt for your stellar hospitality, tips and chinwags. I recommend Epiphyte whole heartedly and look forward to coming back one day. Book now, you won’t find a better place to stay or a better location for exploring everything the beautiful Daintree has to offer.

What a beautiful place to visit! Matt was such an amazing host. It was a perfect place for anyone wanting to experience a taste of serenity and nature at its absolute best. The accommodation itself was quite comfortable. We went as a family with 2 little kids and it had a homely feel to it.

The breakfast with the exotic fruit platter was the highlight every morning and the common area for guests to mingle made the stay even more memorable.

Do make sure to listen to Matt's insight on flora and fauna of the area and also his travelling experiences.

The views from Epiphyte is one to cherish for a lifetime.

Highly recommended for anyone wanting to visit Daintree to stay at Epiphyte!!! SEVEN STARS FROM ME!!

Had a lovely stay at Epiphyte B&B. Matt has built a fabulous property with a lovely view of the Daintree Rainforest Area. He's full of local information and can offer advice on things to do, places to eat, and where to go. So nice to wake up to the sound of so many tropical birds in the surrounded trees and a beautiful fruit platter for breakfast, along with the usual toast, tea and coffee.

Our room was large enough, with space for out bags and a good sized ensuite bathroom.

The property is run on solar power, so advisable not to bring devices that demand a lot of power, such as hair dryers.

Would definitely stay again if we can.

Matt has created the perfect rainforest retreat in the heart of the Daintree offering a stunning view of the iconic Thornton’s Peak, lush tropical gardens, exotic fruit trees, beautiful rainforest with a creek and a swimming hole. Along with Matt’s warm hospitality; his passion and knowledge of the area; his comfortable, well-equipped BnB; and the delicious tropical fruit breakfasts, you simply won’t find a better place to stay north of the Daintree River!
We loved staying in Hibiscus Cottage which is a tranquil, cosy, fully self-contained cabin, a short walk from the main BnB. It’s in a convenient location near amenities in Cow Bay and an easy drive to the main sights, beaches, eateries and boardwalks along the Daintree Coast. We were excited and delighted to see a cassowary bathing in the creek at Jindalba boardwalk on our way back! Thank you so much Matt for a wonderfully relaxing few days. We will definitely be back again soon.

We couldn't have imagined a better holiday. The Epiphyte was just what we were looking for: cozy, romantic, warm hospitality, and a sustainable approach to not only living off the grid but also conscientious of the impact on the natural environment. Matt created such a warm atmosphere where all the guest also can if they would like meet each other or also have privacy. We stayed a whole week and there was plenty to do but the downtown was also most welcome. From delightful music jams with some of the locals to scrumptious exotic fruit breakfasts to engaging conversations our time was filled with wonderful memories.

This is a brilliant hidden b & b, snug in the Daintree Rainforest. Great accommodation in a very peaceful setting, with a communal dining and relaxing area to mingle with other guests.
Matt was a wealth of information about the area, the sites to see and the history of the Daintree.
Wouldn't hesitate to go back

Do all your room and the cabin have insect screens?
Answer from Matt W
Cow Bay
Hi MatildaMurwillumbah, Thanks for your question. We have insect screens on two of the four openings in our Golden Orchid Retreat self-contained cabin. The four guest rooms in the main house have no insect screens but do have pedestal fans and mosquito nets are available on request. Amazingly, even though we are in the rainforest, we don't have any insect problems as we think they prefer their own habitat. If you choose to stay with us we look foward to meeting you. Thanks Kathy and Brad Managers
