This small boutique hotel is a little oasis set between the ocean on one side and a huge lake on the other; whatever way guests gaze the gardens are beautiful and the scenery is spectacular. Buckingham Place named because of Nick’s surname Buckingham and not because of any

Thank you very much for coming to stay and for your fabulous (balanced) review. Firstly, that you left us feeling valued is all I ever hope for. Rare these days maybe, but what drives this place top to bottom is an old fashioned collective appreciation for the folk who feed us and make our days as pleasant as they are. As far as I’m concerned, although this a business like any other, the hotel is also my home. Simply, I could not be happy in y home if our guests were not. Keeping everyone happy all of the time I’m told is an impossible task. There are moments when we don’t succeed, no matter how hard we try – your verandah chairs are a good example! I’m truly sorry you were unable to sit comfortably. If only I'd known we would have swapped them for something better. All I can do now I’m afraid is to say sorry and thank you, for some really helpful feedback – the offending chairs are being replaced I promise!! I’m delighted to know you enjoyed 5 glorious days with us - notwithstanding ropey verandah chairs. I’m happy too, that you felt valued here and add… guests very often become our friends, I hope you’ll return one day to discover that you have too. Thank you for your good custom, valuable support and kind respect for us all. Moreover, thank you for being lovely sociable guests. I wish you a blissfully happy life… Warm regards and respect, Nick & the Team

Myself and my husband Paul stayed at this fantastic hotel for 7 nights in Feburary 2019. We had originally only booked 5 nights, but after travelling around the country (we had stayed in Udawalawee and Ella before) after just one hour we had extended our stay to add on a couple

The coolest (and laziest!) guys!! Your review very nearly brought tears to my eyes this morning, for several reasons. Firstly, I struggle to recall a more passionately exhaustive critique or, one that put its reader so firmly inside the hotel or at its restaurant tables. Thank you very much. Anyone contemplating whether to spend their valuable holiday time with us need contemplate no longer, surely? That you were relaxed and enjoying yourselves was evident each time we met and is so plain to see here on Trip Advisor. And could I ever hope to read better, that the hotel has become your new favourite? That’s a fabulous compliment, thanks again! Moreover however, I’m happy to read that as a couple, you felt perfectly at ease with us and throughout Sri Lanka generally. I have met LGBT travelers whom had quite naturally assumed, an archaic (Victorian) discriminatory law might reflect public attitudes. Personal experience says otherwise, and I hold up my own experiences, preferences and life values as examples for my team in their development. You and your husband felt welcome here because you were - truly. You will be welcomed in future too, equally so, just as all our lovely guests are!! Sure, discrimination and bigotry do exist in Sri Lanka as they do elsewhere, but issues arising are fairly rare I’m happy to tell you. Until the country catches up with the rest of the world my advice for ALL couples is to do as you did; exercise modesty, avoid overt displays of affection and be discreet, even (or especially) if one lives here! You are two of the coolest guys we’ve had to stay, I enjoyed hosting you very much. Speaking for all I can safely say, we’d welcome you back anytime. However do let me know in advance, I’ll need some time to stock up on the Rose!! Thank you for your good custom, this magnificent thumbs-up, and for your excellent company. Please do come again and in the meantime, have a blissfully happy life together. Warm regards and respect, Nick & the Team

There are a couple of places on this planet, not many, were I like to keep coming back to, like Buckingham Place(BP), named after Nick Buckingham, a mesmerising English gentleman, that managed to build his own kingdom in the southern part of Sri Lanka, right at Rekawa beach were

Family... There are a couple of people on this planet(!), guests of ours, whom have become part of our family and the story so far. A couple of cool, big hearted Belgians to be precise. They share our values and, whilst keeping us on our toes have great empathy for all of us and what we strive for. They are also just the greatest fun to be with! These warm, friendly, loyal and hugely supportive guests have been staying with us since I don’t know when. In the last four months alone they've stayed almost as many nights at the hotel as I have!! And, although we will never take them for granted, a season without them is now unimaginable. Quite simply, they are part of this place. To both of you; your contributions towards our sustainability, while with us and always, afterwards on this forum, are deeply appreciated and respected. Your friendship and superb company is cherished and looked forward to. I understand you’ve firmed-up your next long-stay booking which, is fabulous news for us all. Thank you for your friendship, loyal custom, this landmark review and great photos, and, your superb company – and thanks again for making a massive effort to improve our film library! You are two of a kind but also, part of our big happy family now. We will look forward to welcoming you home… Big hugs Nick & ‘the family’.

We would highly recommend staying at Buckingham Place. The staff were all very helpful and friendly, even down to little things such as bringing you a ice cold drink when you came back from the beach. The food was lovely, we particularly enjoyed the breakfast. My wife enjoyed

Thank you for coming to stay and for following up with a truly fabulous recommendation. To read that Buckingham Place is ”...probably the best hotel we have stayed at on our travels!” is as good as it gets! I’m really pleased too, whenever the ‘little things’ are noticed and appreciated. It is not uncommon for the simplest detail to require our greatest effort. I am sorry about our wretched peacocks however! I’ve had 17 years to get used to them and love them even, and thankfully, for the most part they are peaceful. But, every now and then they play up, invariably when a light goes on somewhere and it wakes them up. Our peacocks are a 'detail' I'm yet to find a solution for!! I’m delighted you had a fantastic stay and hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back one day. Thank you for your valued custom, this fantastic support and your excellent good company. Please do come again. Warm regards and respect, Nick & the Team.

To our Dear Guests who wrote: ‘Brilliant hotel, best we have ever stayed in’ / ‘5 star luxury’ AND ‘Wow’ (for our restaurant Oceanfront@Buckingham Place) / ‘More days is all we could’ve asked for’ / ‘Holiday heaven’ / ‘Small slice of heaven in Tangalle’ / ‘What a honeymoon highlight!’ and last but not least by any means, todays ‘Highlight!’ You are TOO WONDERFUL FOR WORDS! Happy Sunday mornings are about breakfast in bed and thanking guests for their lovely reviews - if any. It’s not unusual for there to be one or two, three even, but as you may have noticed you’ll know, last Sunday I was overwhelmed by ten reviews appearing in the space of a week! A week on, I’m overwhelmed all over again - another eight to send thanks for! All eighteen are somehow different from each other (I’m in awe) but are fabulous and written eloquently from the heart nonetheless. You’ve done us proud with YOUR review - thank you. If considering the hotel myself I’d be convinced to stay nowhere else on earth! Whether because of your painstaking detail, enthusiasm, the type of traveler you are, or the sentiment shared by several of you – that you are likely to return, I would have no doubt. Buckingham Place is most definitely worth a try. For us - all 63 of us, every single wonderful review is a drop of life-blood. So please, everybody, keep writing!! If I could, I’d say thank you very much but we have enough great reviews now. However, I’m aware of the importance of submission frequency and continuity - our awards too are based on the continuance of reviews like yours. Thank you for choosing us, supporting us and for being wonderful company while with us. You will know already that we’d welcome you back in the blink of an eye, we’d feel privileged to. It’s been a lovely week - one of you even played my favorite song on the piano and inspired me to hold onto a dream, I will one day play it myself! This evening, a showbiz legend will entertain us so it’ll be a lovely evening too. I only wish you were still here to enjoy the party! Until next time… have a blissfully happy life. Warm regards and sincere thanks, Nick & the Team.

Upon arrival a wonderfully beautiful bed
Buckingham Place was perfect for us and our two daughters (19 and 22 years) to relax, but it is quiet and remote. Your kids would love the pool (it is unsupervised), the beach and the local monkeys who play in the trees nearby. The beach is beautiful (we went for a morning run from end to end before breakfast while the girls were still asleep), but if you want to swim with your kids, take a left out of the hotel beach gate and walk 10 mins down to the rock pools on the headland, where it is safer. This is where most people go, as the sea is very strong along the main beach. There is a pool/billiard table at the hotel which we enjoyed playing after dinner and they sometimes show movies in the hotel amphitheatre next to the dining room in the evening. You can hire a Tuk Tuk to eat locally in Tangalle, but we tended to eat in, as the food in the hotel was so good and we were only there for a few days en route. No kids club as far as we are aware. Check details with Nick Buckingham, the owner. He is very approachable.

We would like to book. Which rooms have indoor bathrooms please
Our bathroom was attached to the rest of the unit but was "open" to the outside air. It was very nice.

We did not see any local massage places, but have to say we used the facilities at BP which were nowhere near the amount you suggest, two of us had a full massage for less than your figure.

Hi, What are the food and drink costs at the hotel?
Difficult to answer as we had an all inclusive price for meals and accommodation. Sorry, you will need to inquire from them. The food is fantastic, a real mix of local and international dishes. All the best.
