I had a fantastic time staying at Resotel Baan Sanook. I wanted to visit Sakon Nakhon to experience indigo dyeing and Robert made this possible. We went to a farm surrounded by lush, green rice fields where some ladies showed us the whole indigo dyeing process and we were able to try each stage ourselves and tie dye a T-shirt and scarf. Then we went to a village and saw people making the indigo products in their homes. I loved this experience, it was very special to see the traditional textile art and the local people were so friendly and welcoming. On my second day we rode on scooters through farm land and rural villages to a reservoir where we had a very relaxing herbal bath and massage. They were selling textiles made by the natural dye from buffalo dung. This was very interesting to see. On the third day we explored some undiscovered waterfalls and had fun sliding down them. We drove along farm tracks through rubber plantations and saw lots of the beautiful countryside. The resort has a very luxurious feel to it and I was made to feel very at home. I enjoyed swimming in the pool each morning before breakfast. There is so much to see in the area and I hope to visit again to see more!…
As annual returning visitor to Thailand, i only know about this place through a fb group. As always on the lookout for unique experiences, we took the gamble and flew to Udon Thani this trip. We stayed 5 nights at mr and ms Merks (dutch thai couple) beautiful villa. Wich is run in a homestay style. There are 2 inhouse ghuest rooms and 2 garden bugalows. We had one inhouse room wich wich in quality and finish of materials can easily match a 3/4* hotel. The house is situated some 95km to east from Udon Thani in the middle of country side isaan. So no big cities to expect (nearest 7/11 2km) . We didnt spot any tourist at all driving the surroundings by motorbike. Then i must say never had a host/owner putting so much effort in you enjoying your stay. Wich for us sometimes came a bit overwhelming. Nothing is to crazy for Robert to arrange. From the western breakfast he produces in the morning, to dinnertrips he took us. And the sightseeing trip we went. Wich he showed nature you dont expect in ricefield country side. Chokdee Robert and Saline. If we have the chance to come back, we will. …
I was visiting the Issan region with my family last month and my wife's niece reserved a stay for us at this wonderful resort. We required 4 rooms to accommodate all of us. My wife, two kids and I stayed in the main house next to the pool. My wife's family stayed in one of the double room villas. Each room was exquisitely furnished with solid wood furniture hand crafted at a local mill work. Even the shutters and doors with their beautiful carvings were hand made. The bathrooms were totally modern with fixtures imported from Europe. We were so comfortable, I hated to leave. The best part was the super friendly host and owner, Mr. and Mrs Merks. They spent time with us at check in and made sure we were completely comfortable. In the morning, Mr. Merks met me by the pool and we had a long talk over many topics drinking the gourmet coffee he made for us. Later, as the family joined us, he and Mrs. Merks cooked all of our breakfast requests fresh. Mr. Merks also has fine Dutch bread and butter he bought from local European businesses in the area. I am sure everyone will love this resort and it's owners just as much as we did during our stay.…
I had really low hopes of finding a place in the Sawang Din Daeng/Phang area when I started looking last month, but when I started searching for places around the area on the internet, I came across this place and was really intrigued, it looked like a really special little 'oasis off the beaten path." I based all of this off photos and trip advisor reviews. I thought it would be impressive, what I didn't realize was HOW impressive. Robert and his wife Salinee have really gone out of their way and haven't spared ANYTHING to make this place what it is. From the warm greeting, to the views of the rice growing, to the natural swimming pool, world class sleep, incredible breakfast and really nice people. This is worth the journey, even from places as far as Bangkok. Visit Resotel Ban Sanook and you will be glad you did!…
We looked for a nice place to stay around Phang Kohn and were very lucky to hit on Resotel Baan Sanook, a superb resort run by Robert and his Thai wife Lina (if I understood correctly). The resort stands out because of its perfect quality of really everything: the room, the huge bed (7 feet wide) with very high quality matras, the luxury bathroom with rain shower and clean drinkable water from the tap. Robert does not work with arrival and departure hours, so my room was made while I enjoyed a dive in a beautiful pool. There is a waterfall from the upper pool to the lower pool, next to a bassin for fish. We stayed in a room with 1 King Size bed, but there are also a few detached houses with a larger capacity for families or two couples. The main building offers an open living room and kitchen. In the morning a good European or Thai breakfast is served. One thing that really stands out is the friendly interaction with the hosts. If you want to relax near the pool it is just okay, it you want to talk you are just as welcome. Robert and I watched the formula 1 race that was on that weekend and he helped me with lots of info about sights to see in the Isan, as well as things to know for a longer stay in Thailand. We even we to a restaurant twice as if we’ve been friends for ages. Our initial stay was just 1 night, but I promised to come back soon. In fact I came back after two days already because of the spartan quality of the other resorts we visited. When you compare the resorts around Phang Khon, you may notice a price difference, but I advise you to see through that, because you’ll get a superb experience. If you compare it to European prices, it is still very much affordable.…
This is a most beautiful five star resort. Have stayed there on 3 different occasions since opening in Jan.Totally unexpected in this part of Thailand . Rooms / bungalows, planned to the smallest detail with many items and fixtures coming all the way from Europe. Host Robert, a native from Holland, and his wife Leenie, designed and build the place and spared no expense to truly make your stay comfortable and one to remember . Wonderful place to relax with family / friends.
