#2 of 2 Specialty lodging in Mary River National Park
In the midst of the savannah bush on the edge of the Mary River floodplains, Australia’s answer to the Okavango delta, Bamurru Plains’ is the setting for a wilderness experience like no other. With just nine safari suites, each blending seamlessly with the surrounding bush and with a focus on the key luxury comforts, a supremely comfortable bed, innovative Australian cuisine and premium wines (no TVs, minibars or telephones to distract from the wildlife outside), Bamurru deliberately tries not to be a typical luxury hotel room in the bush. The floodplains and savannah woodland offer one of Australia’s richest wildlife experiences: tens of thousands of Magpie Geese mingle with Whistling Kites, egrets, herons and buffalo on the floodplain, while Blue-winged Kookaburras, parrots, cockatoos and Agile Wallabies inhabit the fringing woodlands. Bamurru’s team of passionate field guides offer a variety of activities, including exhilarating airboat trips on the floodplains, cruises on the Sampan River to spot crocodiles, four-wheel drive safaris, scenic flights over the floodplains and coastline. We can also arrange tours to the rock art galleries of Arnhem Land or guided fishing trips. In the evening, sit back with a sundowner drink and canapés and enjoy the soft ‘Wild Bush Luxury’ touches that are the Bamurru trademark. There is also an open bar, a small swimming pool and nature reference library. Bamurru Plains, its facilities and 300 km² of country are exclusively for the use of its guests, so you can be assured of a quiet, privileged outback experience. Bamurru Plains is a member of the Luxury Lodges of Australia

We simply loved everything, but most of all the amazing people running the whole lodge (rangers, chefs and staff). The best human and wildlife experience ever. Definitively the place where you want to spend a couple of days with family or friends.

Thank you so much for your kind review, which comes right on the end of a long season so your comments on our team are all the more appreciated and they are key to the whole experience that we offer. It is their knowledge and passion that allows us to open up the secrets of the bush in what we think is a very special location. Part of the luxury of Bamurru is in the fact that you are sharing a huge landscape with just a handful of others but as a small lodge so much of our marketing is through word of mouth so please spread the word! thank you and kind regards Charlie Carlow

Set within a working buffalo/cattle station, staying here is an amazing experience. The staff were all amazingly friendly, welcoming, and knowledgable. A great range of activities are available, or you can laze in the infinity pool overlooking the flood plains (though it must be admitted these were pretty dry during our visit)

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us and I am obviously delighted that you had a great time. The floodplains were, as you pointed out, particularly dry when you came to stay - the result of a poor wet season that has meant that the waters retreated faster than normal. You obviously saw the country at one end of a season of extremes - drier plains and concentrations of birdlife and wildlife versus the greenery and water in the earlier part of the year when the rains come and bring the 'flood' back into floodplains. Maybe we can tempt you back in the earlier part of the year to see the contrasts in the country? Thank you again for your kind words - the team love hearing positive comments. Kind regards Charlie Carlow

Bamurru is a very special place with great staff, food, wine and unique accommodation. The 3 sided tented cabins are simple but very clean, very comfortable and very exciting. Waking up watching the wildlife walk past on their daily journey and listening to all the birds at first daylight is just a great experience. All the staff are great, very knowledgeable and passionate about their surroundings which makes your trip even more special. It is pricey but well worth it!

Thank you for the feedback and review - we love hearing it and are obviously delighted that you enjoyed your stay. The simplicity that you mention is very much part of the experience and the rooms are very much intended to connect you with the surrounding bush and with the simple luxuries of a really comfortable bed, great ensuite bathroom provided but without the traditional hotel appliances (minibars, phones, TVs, wifi etc) that you would obviously find in most urban and indeed many rural locations. The chance to disconnect hopefully brings a chance to relax and focus on the wildlife and wilderness around you without all the other distractions. Thank you and kind regards Charles Carlow

Staff are all wonderful, the food is great, the wine selection great, the location is very special, sitting around the pool watching the birds, wallabies and buffalo was amazing and waking up to the sites and sounds of all these animals was very special. The safari tours on air-boats was exciting, the 4WD and Quadbike tours were fun and the guides know their stuff.

Thank you - I am obviously pleased to hear that you enjoyed the experience at Bamurru. As you say, it is very much about what you can do in what we think is an amazing wilderness location and the field guides are key to that - it is not just their knowledge but the genuine passion that they bring to the party that really makes the experience. All supported by some great food and great Australian wines. Thank you and please spread the word. Kind regards Charles Carlow

This is a unique experience and by far the best I ever had. If you are looking to disconnect from the world for a few days. This is the place for you. The staff were friendly and very helpful and the safari tours were delightful especially the ones at sunset. They have very limited cabins in this place so it is a very private experience and dinners/lunches are communal so you get to know some of other guests. The cabins are amazing inside with amazing views of buffalos, wallabies and any other creature passing your room at night. loved it and I would completely recommend this place.
