We have just enjoyed a fantastic four days at Bamurru. It was a very special experience not only due to the location but also because of the wonderful service and camp facilities. My husband who is a birdwatcher was in heaven and the camp guides went beyond the call of duty in helping him spot those elusive 'new' birds. Meanwhile... More

Bamurru plains is a very special holiday destination. We booked for 2 nights in the kingfisher suite but I wish that we could have stayed longer. My husband, a keen photographer was in heaven. The food was excellent and the open bar Vanderbilt you feel like you were at home. The use of old tin on the walls of the... More

Come here to switch off, lie on the bed or the pool and watch the wild life go by. Don't expect massive amount of wildlife unless you are an avid bird watcher (I am not but did end up enjoying bird-watching) or happy to observe herds of non-native water-buffalos. Loads of wallabies and occasional hear of brumbies. The Balinese chef... More

Had a fantastic 3 nights at Bumurru with our 2 young kids (10 and 7) staying in the Kingfisher Suite. The room was very comfortable and had ample space for us all. The meals were wonderful (cooked breakfast, lunch and then 3 courses for dinner). Definitely the calibre of a nice restaurant back in Sydney. We were in the ultimate... More

As part of our 3 week taster of Australia we spent 2 nights at Bamurru Plains near Darwin. We flew into the local airstrip in a small 6 passenger plane which was a great adventure in its own right. Then just a 15 minute drive to the lodge. The staff were exceptional and knowledgeable and nothing was too much trouble.... More

Its a great luxury in an outback location. Great to rejuvenate the soul, and battered mind and body. The food was sensational and the service from all the people working there was second to none. The tented rooms were tastefully and simply decorated in an industrial outback way. And what a great way to watch nature at its best. We... More

Had absolute fun with the kids. Lovely nature encounters with termites, wallabies, Buffaloes and more. Each encounter was made enchanting by the guides who brought us ard eg Georgia, John and Fishing Harry. Many first time experiences eg Showing us how to eat green ants. World class food. The lodges allow us to look out and the animals don't seem... More

I joined their photographic safari and had a memorable trip. The staff and guides were absolutely fantastic as we chased that 'money shot'! We got up close (but within a safe distance) to much of wildlife. The food was absolutely fabulous, a delight to the taste buds! I stayed in a safari cabin which was very comfortable. Whether you are... More

The food is excellent, the staff couldn't be more accommodating. John and Justin, the nature guides are also great, both knowledgeable and interesting. The individual bungalows are well equipped with panoramic views over the flood plain. The only fault, and, frankly a serious one, is the relationship between cost and Value. We have enjoyed luxury animal viewing reserves in many... More

The lodge/camp definitely has the right idea to capitalize on a lovely location. Being in screened tents surrounded by wallabies, buffalo and colorful birds is the ideal way to experience the beauty and open spaces. Decor is exceptional. Air boat experience was really thrilling and one of my all time great photo opportunities. As an American, I would have liked... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
In the midst of the savannah bush on the edge of the Mary River floodplains, Australia’s answer to the Okavango delta, Bamurru Plains’ is the setting for a wilderness experience like no other. With just nine safari suites, each blending seamlessly with the surrounding bush and with a focus on the key luxury comforts, a supremely comfortable bed, innovative Australian cuisine and premium wines (no TVs, minibars or telephones to distract from the wildlife outside), Bamurru deliberately tries not to be a typical luxury hotel room in the bush. The floodplains and savannah woodland offer one of Australia’s richest wildlife experiences: tens of thousands of Magpie Geese mingle with Whistling Kites, egrets, herons and buffalo on the floodplain, while Blue-winged Kookaburras, parrots, cockatoos and Agile Wallabies inhabit the fringing woodlands. Bamurru’s team of passionate field guides offer a variety of activities, including exhilarating airboat trips on the floodplains, cruises on the Sampan River to spot crocodiles, four-wheel drive safaris, scenic flights over the floodplains and coastline. We can also arrange tours to the rock art galleries of Arnhem Land or guided fishing trips. In the evening, sit back with a sundowner drink and canapés and enjoy the soft ‘Wild Bush Luxury’ touches that are the Bamurru trademark. There is also an open bar, a small swimming pool and nature reference library. Bamurru Plains, its facilities and 300 km² of country are exclusively for the use of its guests, so you can be assured of a quiet, privileged outback experience.
