We booked The Owl Suite for a weekend vacation with our family, and had relatives and friends making the drive to join us for the stay. The Owl is the highest end suite available on the resort. We have 3 kids aged 11, 9 and a 1 year old little toddler. At arrival, we were pleased to see the lake and the suite. The kids went fishing and canoeing and our vacation was off to a good start until we started cooking. The water had a brown colour and was filled with residues. We boiled it and filtrated it afterwards but the water was still coloured. We had to use it nonetheless because we had not brought any other supply since no notice of any kind had been given. Shortly after the toilet water started spreading all over the floor. We spent a half hour cleaning it up. We tried to join management to no avail at first so ended up having to monitor the situation all weekend. The day after, the sewage water started coming up the shower's drain with brown particles filling up the floor. Around dinner time we finally got a hold of a representative who casually informed us that the septic was backing up into the suite (as if it was a regular occurrence) and then ordered us to change room, right when we were hosting our guests and before the kids' bedtime. Did not offer anything to compensate us. My wife was very concerned for our kids safety since we had been drinking some of that water (not knowing about the issue). When my wife called back after the weekend to rectify, the representative who had been nice to us before was very cold this time around and instead of accommodating tried to blame us for the issue. There are lot of nice lake resorts in BC, I suggest not risking wasting a nice family vacation and go somewhere else.

Nice spot to stay is about 40 mins outside of Kelowna. No cell service, if you’re looking for peace and quiet. Not sure why they bill in a “cleaning service” of $99.00 for a two night stay, as the rate per night is high enough. Did mention it is no longer high season so why the high cost in the middle of nowhere. The booking agent then gave me 20% off, however still was expensive. It is located about 15 mins. down a gravel road, little community on its own. Private beach, great for canoeing on the small lake. Very peaceful. Stayed in cabin 1, which we thought had a queen bed and 2 singles. What they failed to tell us was the “singles” were bunk beds. Felt that was a little misrepresented after we talked to the person who we booked with, should have told us that. Singles are different than a bunkbed. Close to hiking, biking and Thunder Mountain Race Track. We would book again but look at another cabin.

Firstly Idabel Lake itself is amazing and the resort has plenty of boats with which to explore it. Swimming in the lake was really enjoyable as well. We stayed in Canyon Suite which was excellent. Really well equipped and comfortable. It seems from reviews and speaking to others at the resort that the standard of cabins is variable but ours was really good. The resort itself is good fun, a bit dated in parts but well maintained. We stayed with our three teenage sons and we all had a great time. The Kettle Valley Railway is nearby and well worth a visit.

Idabel Lake is amazing! the resort, however, is mediocre. On the hotel rating system, it's probably a 2 star. Cottage decks look like they're rotting. Beach is minimal. It has a couple nice docks and canoes. The lake would be fun to explore by water. We drove by to consider investing. One should also consider the altitude and that it doesn't get very warm in summer. I imagine it's a snow mobiler's / cross country skier's dream in the winter and has great proximity to Big White.

This place was very peaceful and beautiful. Upon our arrival there was no one to greet us. When we got to our cabin the door wasn't locked and we could find no key. During the night we thought we heard mice. In the morning we found mouse poop. They quickly moved us to another suite but it was so dirty. They failed to provide us with toilet paper, dish soap, dish clothes, and cleaning supplies. It was a good thing that we had friends staying at the resort so I was able to borrow her cleaning supplies to clean the place. Not how I wanted to spend my time away.
