We're not food experts or wine connoisseurs (or even wine drinkers!) but my husband booked an over night stay here for the food experience. I was nervous that it was going to be a snooty overpriced place were we felt uncomfortable. How wrong could I be?. I'll start with the welcome...brilliant, immediately put at ease by a friendly smile. The... More

We followed the excellent instructions emailed to us to find this place (Follow the brown signs to Byland Abbey from the A19 and then turn left) to avoid our satnav's determination to tackle Sutton Bank the hard way. We had a room in the Georgian house a short stroll from the Black Swan itself. The room was well appointed with... More

Third time here and this time with my parents. As always the staff were on great form. The food was magnificent and the drinks were enjoyed. Some familiar dishes on the menu but that's never a bad thing when you consider the quality of this establishment the scallops and lamb were my particular favourites although the trout was enjoyed very... Our party had rooms in two locations. One family in the Cockerdale Suite with its own outside seating area overlooking the 2 acre Kitchen Garden. The other family were in a delightful Georgian house (in the Wilden Room) some 50 yards from the Inn. Both sets of rooms were immaculately presented with thoughtful extras such as both biscuits and cakes... More

We stayed for one night in April after a wet afternoon at the races. We stayed at the accommodation in the main building which was good. The location is very remote but it is well worth the journey down the country lanes. The food was really good. We took the five course tasting menu which was more than enough. We... More

The food here is great. As pretentious, varied and delicious as you'd expect from a Michelin starred restaurant. All beautifully prepared and presented. The wine is excellent and the bottled beer first class. Service is fast, efficient and friendly. And yet despite all this it lacks real atmosphere and at times felt like dining in a medieval castle rather than... More

We stayed here on Saturday night with couples friends and had a superb night. Staff were attentive, friendly and helpful on arrival and departure. Our room was superb in a separate building around the back with its own pretty outdoor seating. We had a huge double bed in a cosy room with everything we needed, gorgeous ensuite with huge free... We booked at this restaurant with rooms for a bit of a treat. The room was a 50 yard dash up the road, housed separately from the restaurant. It was tastefully furnished with Laura Ashley style soft furnishings, a generous sized bathroom with a roll top bath. There were luxury additions such as bathrobes, Molton Brown toiletries, homemade biscuits and... More

The food at the Michelin starred restaurant was wonderful and the included room fantastic. We also loved the breakfast and because the meal and night were for a birthday treat I even had my pudding on a plate they said 'happy birthday'. Unexpected and fun. A great hotel and restaurant I have praised to anyone that would listen.

A lovely night away. Bedrooms are beautifully decorated and furnished in a house 1 minute walk away from the restaurant. Our room had magnificent views front and back. Huge bathroom with a really strong shower/wet area and a big tub bath. Lovely toiletries in the bathroom with fluffy white towels and robes. Tea tray in the bedroom included delicious home-made...
