We've just returned from our second stay with Lisa and Sue at the Hide, this time in the Homestead rather than the Studio. The Homestead is as comfortable and charming as the Studio, and the owners' hospitality remains exceptional. They provided breakfast for the first morning that was easily generous enough for two or more meals. We were too lazy to take the offered breadmaking course, but can confirm that the results are delicious. The location is both convenient and bucolic, the amenities comprehensive, and the reception all that could be wished for. We look forward to our next visit!
My husband & I spent three days @ The Hide over New Years. It was the first time we've taken our dog on holiday with us, and it was perfect. Firstly the accommodation is very comfortable. There is a small kitchen that had everything we needed. The bedroom is large, with a comfortable bed. The bathroom is spotless, water pressure in the shower is good. There is a day bed for reading your book or just looking out over the hills, watching the cows and kangaroos. Lots of books and DVDs are provided so you'll find something to watch or read. Outside there is a small table and chairs so you can look out over the dam. A really great way to start the day is to have a leisurely breakfast outside watching the kangaroos on the hill. Secondly it's a perfect set up to give your dog the best holiday its every had! There is a fenced in run so you dog can sit outside & watch the world go by. Our dog played with the resident kelpie in the dam everyday. She loved swimming & playing, and then spent all day sleeping in the sun or relaxing while watching the world go by. Thirdly, it's a short trip into Daylesford and the surrounding areas. It only took us 10 minutes to get into town, where there are lots of great places to eat. Many of these places had outdoor areas & were very dog friendly. Lisa and Sue are the perfect hosts, very friendly and with so much knowledge about the area. Sue is a very talented artist and her art adorns the walls of The Hide. I would highly recommend you stay @ The Hide when you are in Daylesford.…
This is a fabulous cottage on a small farm just outside Daylesford in the magnificent Victorian countryside. We woke up in the morning to a huge flock of cockatoos and cows in front of the house and watched the sun go down in front of a roaring fire with a large mob of kangaroos grazing right in front of the house. Its in the countryside but not remote in any way. There are good facilities for cooking but also only a short drive to Daylesford's many restaurants. The location of The Hide is also in easy distance of Victoria's fascinating goldfields townships and a number of wine growing regions.
My mate and I had a gorgeous relaxing time at this little gem. Lisa & Sue have done an upstanding job of creating a charming home away from home. Simple, Cozy & Comfy. Lovely coffee, great shower & toasty wood fire Ned Kelly. We didn’t want to leave!
If you want peace and quiet in the Australian country side but not too far from urban comforts this is your place. Kangaroos at dusk, echidnas and birdsong in the morning. The rooms and equipment are spotless and the beds are comfortable giving a good sleep even for someone who usually sleeps badly. The hosts are very helpful and make useful suggestions about things to see and do. A great no fuss spot for family and dog.
