We visited Nordre Ekre in Heidal this summer. We were really surprised how authentic, genuine and beautiful this place is. A wonderful experience and a journey back in time. Lovely place with fantastic food. A wonderful experience that is highly recommended
We booked one night and 3 course dinner. We stayed in a old loft that was build as a room. This was a nice and good beds. The dinner had a slow service, but god food. But we did not get the drinks we ordered and there where no WiFi that worked.
Stepping into a cabin is like going back in time to the 18th century. Absolutely magical and wonderful. Very tasteful bathrooms (completely modern, of course), and the rest of the furniture seems original from the times when this was a farm. We simply love it! Sleep like a king and queen in the canopy bed and treat yourself to food in the luxury class on the restaurant belonging to the place. Plenty of green acres and roaring stream nearby. It’s impossible not to relax here with a big smile upon your face. Staff is professional, helpful and smiling. You simply have to try this to believe it. Perfect!
We are a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids 8 &10 years) that stayed here for 3 nights. The food was outstanding at the restaurant. There were two vegetarians in our family and on two nights the chef and owner prepared delicious vegetarian menu, We did the musk ox hike (absolutely amazing) and we did the trek in Jutoheimen park to Memurubu and caught the boat back. We thought that hike was 5 km and it turned out to be 15 km. We made the last boat, phew. Was memorable scramble and gorgeous. Highly recommend this place. The chef and owner has had his property in her family for 8 generations (!) and was super helpful and kind.
Nothing fancy going on here. Simple bedrooms in a charming gathering of Norwegian farm buildings with grass growing on top, something out of central casting. Nothing all that out of the ordinary in the Gudbrandsdal...except for the dining room. You HAVE to book dinner here in advance...really...b/c there's nothing else convenient to go. But, don't look upon this as anything except what it is: a complete surprise and a total treat. After 2.5 weeks in Norway, we can honestly say that our 2 meals with Marit and Oyving were definitely the foodie highlights of our trip. Really. And they have a terrific wine list. To top it all off, the price (and this IS Norway, so everything's relative) is downright reasonable. Go.
Our 2nd stop on our Norway vacation and it didn't disappoint. Everything here was simple, from parking your car to walking to the restaurant for dinner. Our room was beautifully kept and the accommodations were wonderful. The buildings are old but updated interior. My husband, who is 11 inches taller than me, hit his head on the door frame entrance 6 times in the first day, this is NOT a complaint because it provided us with some entertainment, just a funny comment. The food was absolutely delicious, gorgeous plating and perfectly paired drink menu. The owners/chefs, waitresses, all were extremely nice. If we ever make it back to Norway, we will make this a stop again for sure!
This lovely place is a perfect combination of rustic (the farm-style buildings, the old fireplace in my room) and modern (the excellent mattress, fabulous bathroom with super hot water and a jacuzzi tub). And then there’s the kind and attentive staff, plus the outstanding food. Honestly, I love duck confit. Looooove it. Order it whenever it’s on the menu. But I’ve never had better duck confit than here. And the wine pairings reveal great expertise. You will be give/take an hour from each of five gorgeous national parks so it’s a perfect base for hiking central Norway, and there’s no way you’ll be more comfortable and better fed anywhere else.
A true marvel! A hotel with equisity taste, so beautifully decorated in a surrounding that was so relaxing! And a five star dinner that was just so good with tasy diches remarkably well prepared! And on the top of this, a breakfast, that could qualify as all breakfast's mother!! Cissi and Carsten
We very much enjoyed our stay at Nordre Ekre. The food was exquisite, wines were good and the place itself has great ambience. We perceived service as personalised, with care and attention to detail. Recommended!
Don't look any further, Nordre Ekre is outstanding, there is no other way to describe it. We have travelled extensively and the quality, comfort, cleanliness, and the professional but friendly owners are seldom matched. Room was excellent, bed extremely comfortable and outside seating area perfect. The rural location but easy access is a bonus. The dinner was one of the best meals we have ever had and certainly by far the best in Norway. IThank you for a most wonderful and special stay.
