I contemplated writing this review at all, but as it truly is the biggest waste of money I’ve ever spent I’d rather pre-warn others before they book under false pretences. After staying over I was awake from 3am due to the horrendous weather conditions which you have no protection from at all staying in one of these “Luxury Tents” at Giraffe Lodge. I raised several complaints I raised regarding my stay whilst I was still there, which all amounted from being here for just over 12 hrs..... 1. Not well sign posted - Driving up here in the heavy rain, there is no clear signage on where to check in. Our Sat Nav clearly led us to the wrong car park so we went check in at the normal park entrance at 13:30, to then be advised by a member of staff we were in the wrong car park completely?! He had no clue or idea how to give directions, couldn’t offer a map and even apologised saying “yes it’s really annoying how bad the signage is here?!” 2. No official check-in - So as we went to the wrong entrance this then made us late arriving for our check-in as we just made it for 2pm for the Safari so we were both feeling very flustered at this point. There was NO official check in to check all details of our booking with us, just someone next to a van to tag up our bags and tell us we were staying in the ‘Cheetah’ Lodge. Spending just under £500 on a “special discount” this is not the type of service I would expect from a 4 star rated Hotel Reserve! 3. Nothing extra for a birthday - I mentioned on my reservation at time of booking it was a surprise birthday gift for my fiancé. No options were given to make it more special and no gesture at all was even in the room, not even a welcome generic birthday card?! Why give the option to give special instructions or notes on a reservation and nothing is even offered or done?! 4. Transport to the Lodge - The transport provided was horrendous to Giraffe Lodge for heavy rain conditions, if the vehicles don’t have side zip window panels, this should be advised so waterproof clothing is brought to prevent getting drenched! Even when you arrive at the accommodation a drenched member of staff met us, then made us wait for the whole group to join us in the heavy rain with no shelter before slowly leading us to The Lapa Restaurant. Again not an arrival to accommodation I’d expect when paying around £500! 5. No food or drink facilities available - Something not advised at booking confirmation stage, courtesy call or when dropping bags off is that once you are at Giraffe Lodge there are no Food or Drink options until Dinner?! So from 2-7pm! This is a ridiculous set-up! I was 7 months pregnant and had I'd known this I would’ve packed snacks and drinks! All I was offered was Cashews or Almonds which I couldn’t have as I have a severe nut allergy or the girl said there was 1 bag of Malteasers left which as I was famished I took immediately! I’ve looked at other accommodation options and most including the cheaper options like Hog Deer Park actually have mini fridges?! 6. No back up wet weather plans - Due to the awful weather our Safari was cut from 1 hr to 20 mins as we’ve been told it will be made longer for today as the weather is due to be better. So again the Ranger time I was advised on my itinerary from 3-6pm ALSO didn’t then happen. So this meant it gave us 4 hrs of time in the “Luxury Tents” with no option to go anywhere or even get any food or drink when we wished?! We were just stranded! Again, to seriously charge £500 + !!! No buggies being offered when other accommodation is, again is not acceptable. Why position not cheap “Lodges” in a non pedestrian friendly area with no means of transport?! Wasting half a day of the trip, as being horrendous weather all we could do was sit inside! 7. Poor quality accommodation - I completely understand it was a glamping style experience and have no issues with the feel of the tent decor and the en suite. However, these “luxury tents” are horrendously made when it comes to bad weather! The zips on ALL sides just clang with ANY gust of wind and all sides of the tent and as you are situated up here this is not avoided meaning in heavy wind and rain you get zero sleep! The maximum I slept from 23:30 that night was 3 hrs on and off which again at 7 months pregnant is ridiculous! Had I known how bad the experience would be if weather was potentially bad, I would’ve booked the CHEAPER and SAFER option of Hog Deer Park or the Hotel!!! I paid more for Giraffe Lodge expecting an amazing experience! 8. No security aspect for belongings - I understand these are tents and all, but there are NO security measures at all to protect any personal belongings when not in your tent. So luckily we didn’t have any high values items. However, the fact anyone can walk in your tent and no padlock or lockable option is given for the front of your tent or at least mini safes inside it?!?! I booked this back on 31st May and I have been so excited to visit especially as it was a big surprise for my fiancé’s birthday as it was meant to be a special break before we become first time parents in October, as our holiday to Ibiza we booked back in January for May got cancelled due to COVID-19. Obviously a miserable time has also been had by all with COVID-19 and lockdown so this was our special treat. We’ve also both wanted to come here for years and couldn’t warrant the cost so it was an extra special treat even more so! I also HATE whenever this type of statement has been used on me BUT, I have worked in hotels and hospitality for 17 years since I was 16 years old. Ranging from 3-5 star properties in both Sussex and London. I can honestly say the organisation and set up for this style of accommodation is truly dreadful and unprofessional, I’ve never felt so let down or disappointed especially as it wasn’t cheap! I do not know HOW their allocation breakdown is spread, but the accommodation would not even be worth £300 of the cost! I also have never felt the urge to complain on a accommodation stay, but there are too many factors that really spoilt the stay far and all before we had even checked out! I was left feeling extremely disgruntled and ripped off and also hugely upset and embarrassed that this was a gift to my fiancé and had let him down with this unpleasant stay. To make matters worse, I sent ALL of these comments whilst there to customer services and was contacted and asked to wait to speak to a member of staff before departing home. Explained the whole experience again as NONE of my comments were passed on, then had to wait 5 days for a follow up by email and not even phone that I had to chase. Then the only gesture of goodwill I was even offered was 2 x complimentary park passes to go back to see the park again and have a Giraffe Safari?! No option of a complimentary stay or partial refund! I even contested this on several emails with the customer service team and the most I was offered on top, was a 20% off discount IF I wanted to stay again. Safe to say I’ll never return and have shared my experience with friends and family. All I can HOPE is that the majority of the allocation from the overnight stays goes towards the care of the amazing animals that are there on site.

I booked an overnight stay for my mother's upcoming 98th birthday in November. With the rise in confirmed Corona cases in the Kent area, and my mother obviously being in a very high risk group. I contacted the hotel to ask about the possibility of moving the date of our one night stay to sometime early next year, when the risk may be lower. I was told that as the cancellation policy states, no amendments can be made within six weeks of the date of the trip. Whilst I appreciate that these are tough times for all businesses, these are unprecedented times for us all. I am not requesting a refund, although I did ask about this possibility, I would be happy to move the booking out to next year. It seems that this is not possible and I must either lose my money or risk my mothers health and well being.

Just got back from a great night away at Port Lympne Reserve! From the moment we arrived the staff couldn’t do enough for us, we took our 8 month old son and we stayed in the hotel (Rex Whistler Room) we took a travel cot and it was ideal, bar downstairs And you can take drinks up to your room, restaurant next door and the beautiful views! The staff even went to collect a pizza for us and bought it to our room We could use the Golf buggies with Oscar on our laps but we used a baby carrier on the front which was better. We explored the reserve and saw all the animals we wanted even took the complimentary safari tour into the Asian and African area Breakfast was the best I’ve had in years! The restaurant linked to the hotel has only been open a since July 2020, it was immaculate and the staff were so friendly and interested in your stay, she even got a smile from Oscar 😃 We will definitely return and anyone with a small baby could enjoy it too, you bump into the other guesses throughout the day so makes the meal times friendly too Well worth it and great value 😃

Unfortunately, another poor review in line with the others on here. For background purposes, my wife and I are celebrating our Pearl Wedding Anniversary this year and have had a celebratory holiday to Venice cancelled due to the pandemic. Having stayed with you before in November 2019 this visit was supposed to be an upgraded replacement. The Flash Sale of 20% off email at the end of May acted as a suitable prompt. Having spent some time exploring the park, we checked in at around 14:45. I was handed the keys to The Charlie Chaplin Suite and Golf Buggy. The Charlie Chaplin Suite was the same accommodation as we had on our previous booking in November. I questioned this as I was expecting something different. My research on your website shows what I believe to be the Phillip Sassoon Suite as the Executive Suite. I have attached a screen shot for ease. In addition, as I had payed somewhere in excess of £100 more that I had in November, I was expecting something quite special. Whilst the Charlie Chaplin Suite is very nice, I was still very disappointed. When I made this clear to the young lady who checked us in, she went to query the booking on my behalf but I was informed that there were no other rooms available and the Hotel was full that night. She asked me if I wanted someone to contact me which I appreciated and requested. This initial contact never materialised. Having no other choice, we moved into the Charlie Chaplin Suite. We had booked dinner at the Bear Lodge Clubhouse that evening. The reason for this choice was that the menu for the Garden restaurant was uninspiring with 50% of the small and large plates being fish based. There are no chicken dishes at all. One of our best memories of our visit in November was the meal in the Hotel Restaurant which was of top quality. The meal in Bear Lodge was the opposite. The starter of Hot N Kickin' Chicken Wings was anything but Hot or Kickin' - just a tad burnt; as was the Red Onion Chutney which had a very bitter taste. The Rocket salad was also a couple of days past its best. The Tiger Prawn Linguini was quite dry needing a lot more sauce and also suffered with the Rocket salad. The Parmesan shavings were non-existent. I tried to catch the server's eye to point this out but they were rushing around and appeared to be rushed off their feet. It took me a couple of attempts to request some salt and a spoon to replace the knife for the Linguini and felt that this was the best result I was going to achieve under these circumstances. Making a hasty retreat back to the hotel, we were looking forward to repeating another memory from our last visit - the general ambiance of the bar area in the hotel. On arrival in the bar at just before 20:30, we were informed that the bar was shut as the young lady on duty was required in the Garden Restaurant. When has a bar in a "Four Star Luxury Hotel" ever shut its only bar at eight o'clock on a Saturday night??

Me, my partner and two children (8 ,5) did the VIP Giraffe Safari which was AMAZING!!!! (29th August 2020) The Ranger Seb was fantastic too, very knowledgeable and interacted with the kids which was an added bonus for all of us. Even though my son Oliver kept Seb on his toes with his many questions :) Seb gave us so much detail and in depth knowledge of all the animals on the Safari which was great and took extra time to ensure my children where very much part of the whole experience. The Giraffe where right in the middle of the safari which made it very difficult to get to them as the ground was damp , however Seb persevered and ensured we DID FEED the giraffe which was great and my partner who loves Giraffe loved the whole experience. We have had many yearly passes for Port Lympne and done the Safari truck ride many many times but this was truly memorable. The only gripe we have is that the cost no longer includes park entry, This has to be reverted back to include the entry or will indeed put too many people off an experience that is at the very top of the price range already. PLEASE PLEASE do not let this amazing place turn into those who just stay at the park as its starting to become to much hotel related rather than the animal
