Saturday afternoon, arrived to have to walk through the bar which was also the reception. Very strong smell of chip fat! Shown to the room, which was dirty, not been painted or cared for since the 70's. breakfast was just a slice of toast, table had dirty tablecloths and dirty crockery had to scout on other tables for clean ones,... Like many, this was our starting point for the Hadrian's Wall walk. It's about half a mile off the starting point at Wallsend fort. Ignore the housing estate surroundings - it's a busy but welcoming pub with great value and really well cooked food worthy of many restaurants. After dinner we sat in the front garden while it quietened down... More

Arrived on Sunday when the bar was in full flow and had to check in at the bar with Simon who was delightful and very helpful. Arrived too late for dinner unfortunately as they stop serving food at 5pm on a Sunday. Room was nice and clean but the double bed was tiny...thankfully only for one night. The kids had... More

....I would avoid Room 7. That's the room we had. Tiny, directly above the kitchen (smells) and the hotel's intermittently noisy boiler in a cupboard in the corner. Other rooms are apparently bigger and all fine. The owner is very friendly and helpful and everything clean and tidy. Surprisingly quiet upstairs given a wedding party and an England match in... From the minute you enter the hotel you feel like family, the rooms are great value and the food is homely, and really decent prices. Close to shops and travel to local areas (Newcastle,Whitley Bay). Will definitely return
