We were two couples on a tour of Namibia and sadly arrived quite late due to the long distances, so did not get enough time to enjoy the wonderful destination. The view was amazing and definitely worth the drive, the welcome was very warm and we felt very relaxed there, a wonderful couple who exude hospitality at its best. The little meercats were an added bonus and the dinner was excellent, we had oryx steaks that were cooked to perfection and an amazing apple dessert. The fresh bread almost filled us up before the main as it was so fresh and crispy we could not resist eating more ;-) I loved the concept of the rooms hidden in a mound to blend with the environment and the pool was a refreshing addition after the long dusty roads. The furniture, both in the rooms and the main house were obviously custom made and blended perfectly with the decor and ambiance. My only comment would be that the bed, although comfortable was very small - it had lovely linen but was a bit tight for both my husband and myself. I think if they want to improve anything it would be to go for bigger and longer beds, especially for the overseas market. Having been in the hospitality industry for 27 years this I know is a must. Another issue (but not serious) would be to inform the guests that the water is solar heated and to shower at night - as the next morning there was only cold water in our unit. Our friends showered at night and were lucky to get lovely hot showers. We would have loved to stay a second day - and I think that should be taken into consideration when booking - there is lots to do and see in the surrounding hills and time to walk would have been great - alas we only had one night - I think two should be a minimum as it takes a while to get there. Overall a wonderful stay, and although one of the more expensive stops on our trip we felt it was worth it - just needed a bigger bed! Would definitely return.

Stunning location with breathtaking views. Warm welcomes in traditional Namibian style. Kuanga’s kitchen is fully equipped, room overflows with lush bedding; not to mention the privacy. Perfect romantic getaway. Can’t wait to go back

Sometimes you get so much more than you expected. This was the case at Barkan Dunes. We planned it as a stop-over from Sossusvlei to Swakopmund so we could break up the journey on the terrible gravel roads. We booked the self catering cottage as it was located on its area & its amazing design. Alma, the owner, met us with a warm welcome & offered cool drinks as we checked in & learned about this great & worthy project. They own over 10,000 hectares & it covers the most breathtaking mountain & valley views. There are 6-7 individual cottages built environmentally bermed into the rocky terrain. To become self sufficient, they've planted a citrus orchard, vegetable plots and occasionally harvest an oryx for meat. We followed Alma to our cottage set between several huge boulders. It has everything you need. A large comfy bed with crisp cotton sheets, an outdoor shower & toilet, a 2 burner hob & a small fridge stocked with water, sodas & wine. The cottage runs completely on solar power. But it was the view that kept us captivated. Surrounded by mountains leading down to a wide grassy valley, we sat outside until well after dark. It was one of the most beautiful settings, in a perfect cottage! Located about 20 km.outside Solitare, Barkan Dunes offers a stunning stay!

A short note to express our appreciation of the notable experience we had at Barkhan Lodge, on 30 June 2020. Other than the the striking setting and amazing sundowner, we find the new rooms to be unique, spacious and clean. Over and above however the praise goes to Nicky and Gerda, who ensured we had a memorable stay. They spoiled us with delicious food and catering for our every need. Compliments to a remarkable managing couple. We trust that there will be a next time. Thank you Barkhan for a spectacular experience! We were treated with delicious food, and friendly hospitality. Beautiful decorated rooms with an uncluttered view over the valley of silence! We took full advantage partaking in the many activities available at the lodge. It is unbelievable how easy it is to ride the e-bike and the solar buggies are a must to explore the surroundings. We will definitely come back again soonest. Next time we will the bring the family.
