We just came back from a 3 day tour with Chalalan and we loved it. The place is amazing, the ecolodge is located in the middle of the jungle, close to a stunning lagoon. You just feel in another world, an amazing one! First, it took us a bit over 5 hours to get to Chalalan (it takes half of... More

We are very pleased to have met your expectations. We make every effort to be accurate in presenting such the hostel which is, we understand that it is very annoying that the pictures give an exaggerated picture of what is offered. We'd love to visit again, this occasion more time so they can get to know the community and the... More

Chalalan was absolutely the best choice for a tour in the Amazon. After reading reviews of many other companies, I chose Chalalan due to their sustainability approach as well as their commitment to community development and wildlife preservation - which is something that many other companies operating out of Rurrenabaque don't hold up to (they feed and touch the animals).... Chalalan has 16 years conserving biodiversity within the Madidi National Park and within the indigenous territory of San José de Uchupiamonas, owners of the hostel. In that time it has sought to reduce the environmental impact of this tourism operation avoiding both hunting and feeding of animals or other aggressive practices. We are very grateful that this component of our... More

I visited Chalalan Ecolodge in May of 2015. Day 1, started early with us taking a trip up river to the lodge. It takes about 5 hours by canoe, fighting against the current and low water all the way. At one point the navigator even went into the river and started pushing us across the river as the water level... More

We are delighted that your experience in Chalalan was successful and lucky, full of observations of animals, adventures and also the cabins have been to your liking. A very important aspect for us is the quality of the guidance, privista by highly qualified naturalist guides who come from San José de Uchupiamonas, the indigenous people that owns the hostel. We... We highly recommend this trip. Truly one of the most amazing experiences. I think a lot depends on the guide you're assigned, but our guide Giovanni (not sure that I'm spelling that correctly) was absolutely amazing, and did everything to make our trip everything we were looking for. Highly recommended. Two notes: I've read other reviews stating that the lodge... More

We greatly appreciate you consider that the cost of Chalalan is reasonable. Being a small tourist operation, our operating costs are considerable, for this reason we see a lower sales price could lead to sacrificing the quality of service, on the other hand, utilities that are achieved are entirely for the benefit of the indigenous people San José de Uchupiamonas,... Great Nature with many possibilities to observe animals. Many ways in the forest to walk. This was really great. But the standard of the Lodge (rooms, meals) is not in proportion to the price. The lodges have to renovate and have to clean better. The mosquito nets in the Lodges are not always close. There are only cold water.

Chalalan is 16 years old and have noticed over time that maintenance has not been sufficiently addressed. For that reason in the last year and a half, we have made major investments include the complete reconstruction of a log cabin, we bought two boats and two outboard motors, and have changed the entire electrical system for a modern system of... This locally-run initiative was pleasure to visit. The service was friendly and obliging, the guides knowledgeable, accommodation perfect and setting picturesque. Although a lengthy trip by river, I recommend this option if you are seeking a remote, peaceful and comfortable experience amongst mature tropical rainforest. I enjoyed myself immensely.

Really great place! It is one of the pricier places in the area, but for us it was worth it. The location is really beautiful, next to a lake. I have been to Chalalan three times-once in the early years of its development in early 2000s, and in July 2015. It needs sprucing up in terms of the physical structures, and has lost some of the passion of the early years, which was fueled by Conservation International and their initial infusion of funding. However, it is still an excellent... More
