Hotel Riu Buenavista enjoys commendations for its spotless rooms and well-kept pools, with guests often noting the hotel's rigorous standards of cleanliness. While the vibrant atmosphere and entertainment are highlights for numerous visitors, a few find it overly loud or lacking.
The diligent and friendly staff earn high praise, though opinions on value and amenities are varied, with some concerns over noise and room issues. Nestled in a serene, seafront spot, the hotel's location is appreciated for its tranquility, despite being a distance from local hotspots.

Detailed Reviews
Hotel's Favorite
This was our 10th Spanish all inclusive family holiday and 2nd visit to a RIU hotel. Overall, I would say that this hotel was excellent, with a few exceptions.
First impression are of a spacious and well maintained hotel. The whole site is spotlessly clean and well maintained with staff cleaning throughout the day. We had a double interconnecting family room which was huge with a large shared balcony on the quiet side of the hotel - this meant it was quite shady and with limited views but quieter than a room facing the pool area. The A/C was efficient and relatively quiet if you want it on at night. We both have bad backs and found the beds very comfortable (rum and coke may have helped in that respect).
The site has 5 pools including a children's play pool and an adults only pool area. It is built on sloping land and the pools are positioned on different terrace levels, each with their own large seating area. Whilst this is a large hotel, the layout of the pools mean it never feels over crowded and you can pick the area that suits you best. There are plenty of sun beds and whilst people are up early to put out towels, if you don't want a large group together and are not fussy about where you sit, then you can get a sunbed throughout the day. We were a group of six and we found we could get six beds in our preferred location at about 0845hrs each morning - so you don't have to get up super early. The pool areas are scrupulously clean. The pools appear to be chlorinated salt water (environmentally more sound) and were pleasantly warm. With the exception of the shallow kids pool, they are 1.1m deep and have lifeguards on duty. Towels are provided by the hotel and can be exchanged for fresh ones as often as you wish.
During the day, you are never very far from a bar - where there is self service beer, wine and soft drinks. There are also plenty of toilets across the site and we always found these clean - which is often not the case in similar hotels.
There is a short walk to a small cove and man made beach. This is formed from volcanic stones and sand and difficult to walk on without suitable footwear (in terms of both heat and comfort). If you go at low tide there is a route into the sea made of sand rather than stones. The sea drops of quite quickly and so for anything more than a paddle you need to be able to swim. There was a reasonable current but this pushed you back towards the beach so was quite safe in that respect. It is a rocky area and there were several people snorkelling. If you are a fan of a day on the beach, this is not the hotel for you - but okay for a dip in the sea.
In terms of food there is a large main restaurant and also an Italian, Asian and Grill themed restaurants (more of these later). The Grill restaurant is open for breakfast and lunch as an additional food space - but we found the selection was better in the main restaurant.
The main restaurant has a large indoor and outdoor seating area and we managed pretty much always to get seated in an area of our choice. There was a decent all inclusive selection of freshly grilled meat and fish with veg, pizza, pasta, salad, soup, bread, cheeses and desserts and other dishes. We found that the food was reasonably hot and fresh and always found something that we liked. It may become a little repetitive for a 2 weeks stay. The dessert selection was better than our previous experience in Spanish Hotels and the ice cream was particularly good (including the new experience of Toasted Cornmeal Ice Cream - a taste sensation!!). The fresh pizza was good and at lunch there were freshly grilled burgers with toppings either prepared or self assembly and we found the quality of the meat to be very good. I would not normally have burgers on holiday but these were tasty. In my view the veg selection was not great - and generally overcooked, as was the grilled fish. The stews and curry were poor I felt, both looking and tasting unappetising. In the evening their is a daily roast which was very nice.
The restaurant was kept very clean, with lots of staff cleaning tables. We also saw the in-house food hygiene inspector checking the areas and food temperatures a number of times which is reassuring. On balance, I have had a better food selections on other all inclusive but this was pretty good on balance and if you cannot find yourself something to eat that you enjoy you would be pretty picky. The presence of themed restaurants (see below) meant that there were no themed nights in the main restaurant, which we have enjoyed elsewhere.
And so to the speciality restaurants. The Italian and Asian has to be booked via an app - there was no explanation of this on arrival so you have to discover this for yourself. I am not sure how you can get a place as the tables are only available on the app two days in advance and each time we checked they were fully booked. So disappointingly, we never got to try them. To be fair to the hotel we could have asked for advice on this and maybe there is a way of successfully booking. The same cannot be said for the Atlantic Grill - they clearly have an issue with poor attendance as we were pressured to book a table immediately on arrival (and the receptionist got quite cross with us when we declined). We were then approached most breakfasts by staff asking us to book a table for that evening. We chose not to eat at the grill (having found the grill at another RIU hotel to be disappointing) so cannot comment on quality, but you would certainly not have an issue getting a seat.
If you need a snack during the day there is a snack bar open from late morning through to 1800hrs. This offers burgers, hot dogs, chips and what appear to be carrot sandwiches! The quality was decent and they were being freshly cooked for several hours of the day - after about 1430, they are available by have been kept warm in a hot cabinet so not to fresh. Still good for kids who don't want to miss too much pool action. The same snacks are then available from the lobby snack bar from 1100hrs and through the night with a microwave to warm them.
In terms of drinks, as already mentioned there are multiple bars with the main drinks available self service. Staff provide a range of cocktails (pre-mixed in the day and some freshly mixed at night), local spirits, tea, coffee and flavoured milks. Beware of the red coloured slush from the pool bars and the colouring is powerful stuff and stains both teeth, lips and clothing! The lobby bar provides service 24hrs and so there is no shortage of alcohol, but we did not encounter anyone unpleasantly drunk. Bottles of water for the room are available free from the lobby bar.
There is a comprehensive range of entertainment for all ages during the day. The staff were pleasant and professional. One exception was the arrangement for the table tennis table. To get the bats and ball you need to find a member of entertainment staff (who cannot always be found) and they will sign them out to you for a deposit. One of the staff took a EUR 5 deposit but when we went to take them back no member of staff could be found - it was towards the end of the day and we were told they have gone home. We left the equipment in their office so as not to deprive anyone else and went to try and recover the money the following day. The particular member of staff could not be found over several days and when pressed the matter on the final day we were presented with a record of us having signed for the money back (but it was not our signature!!). When questioned at reception, they said there was no set deposit and the entertainment staff just taken "whatever they think". To be fair to the staff, the EUR5 was refunded pretty quickly and they said they were investigate - but the whole system is flaky and with the potential for abuse and could do with improvement.
Evening entertainment was particularly good compared to many Spanish resorts. There was a show of some sort each evening (apart from Karaoke one night) and the production values were high. These are not West End shows but they were engaging and enjoyable. There is a large outdoor stage and seating area, although if you eat late you may struggle to get seated and are best to choose an outside table to eat as there is a good view and they let you sit there past restaurant closing time.
On a Friday night there is a "white" or "neon" party night where the entertainment area is transformed into a Ibiza style club night (between 2100-2300hrs). We felt that was well done and fairly family friendly (with young kids also dancing and enjoying themselves). We have heard from others that they bring in guests from other RIU hotels - if this is the case then it did not feel overcrowded and it was all quite friendly. That being said, if club music is not your thing or you have very young kids then you will probably not enjoy this. We ranged from 12-70 in age and we all had a good time.
On that note, whilst we enjoyed the entertainment, the layout of the hotel means that it is pretty difficult to escape from. There is a large and pleasant lobby bar area, but this has an open balcony to the entertainment area and it is pretty loud in there until 2300hrs. There is a pool bar with seating at the other end of the site open until 2200hrs hours which we used a couple of nights but seating is not all that relaxing. Equally, if you had a room with balcony facing the entertainment you would not get much sleep until 2300hrs and would want to request a room on the outside of the hotel.
We did walk out one evening and there are a few shops, bars and restaurants. However, with the exception of one modern shopping centre it was all a bit run down and uninviting. There is a large Hard Rock themed hotel nearby and we saw people come back with bags from there and this seemed to be popular.
On balance we were very happy with the hotel which was up to the high standards you would expect from RIU. We would definitely recommend and return. Probably best for families with kids aged 10+ and those who are happy to spend their holiday not venturing far from the hotel and bar. The staff were plentiful and very pleasant. One final note of caution would be for people with mobility issues. It is a large site and this means that it rarely feels overcrowded. However, it is some distance from one end to the other and there are steps and some quite steep slopes due to the terraced format. It is an accessible site in terms of wheelchairs - but I heard one family with a wheelchair comment that every route was a bit steep. This may be a consideration if you struggle getting about.
Lovely hotel, decent food, plentiful drink - what is not to like.

This is a great hotel at a great location: bus station Rosa Center (line 471) is just 300m and beach is not too far either.
Room is nice big and bed is very comfortable. Rooms are cleaned and towels are changed daily, and 2in1 shower gel and shampoo are also provided, as well as soap and hair dryer. Each room has a small balcony as well. Wifi is free of charge, but with one user name and password, only two devices can be connected, so if you want to connect a third one, you have to disconnect one of the other two.
Food is very good, for each meal there is vide variety. Between 10 AM and 5 PM, there is a small restaurant next to the pool bar where you can get french fries, fried chicken, sandwiches, etc. In the bars, there are a lot of soft drinks, cocktails, mocktails, beer, spirits, wine, coffee and water.
There are 5 pools, one of them is for adults only. There are a lot of sunbeds and umbrellas around the pools. Beach towel is also provided free of charge. The only problem is that on Saturday and Sunday, local residents can come in for a very cheap price, therefore weekends are very crowded and noisy.
Everything is disinfected very frequently. Wearing mask is always mandatory, exceptions are when you are in your own room or in the pool or lying on your sunbed and of course when you are eating or drinking. Other than that, you must wear mask, even when you go to the trash with your used glass.
At the main restaurant, there is a dress code for dinner: no pool short or sleeveless shirt is allowed for gentlemen. The hotel manager is very strict about this.
Staff is very nice and helpful. Check out time is 11 AM, but if you want to stay longer, it is more than welcome: you can put your luggage to the luggage room at the reception and you can use the pool and keep your all inclusive badge until the end of the day, so until you have to leave, you can use everything. You can also book a so-called courtesy room for 30 mins where you can have shower and change clothes before leaving, and this is free of charge. Shower gel and towels are provided here as well.

Dear Filitheyo, Thank you for choosing to stay with us and for writing such a lovely review. Hospitality and comfort for our guests is our first consideration. For this reason, it is always great to hear our guest’s feedback, and it is wonderful to know how much you enjoyed your stay with us! Regarding your comments about local guests visiting our hotel, we are sorry to read that you had the impression that the hotel was not as quiet and pleasant as it was during the week. As you mentioned, it is possible that on the weekends we receive more local guests because it is when they have some days off and are more likely to visit the hotel, but we take great care to keep the balance between the noise level of a hotel of our dimensions and the tranquility of our guests. Hopefully we will see you again soon. Our team remains at your service! With our best wishes we remain, Hotel Riu Buenavista Online Reputation Manager

We booked a family room , was with a mate, so this was ideal two separate bedrooms, one very large terrace over looking the banana plantation quiet, both bedrooms lead out onto the terrace, good view of the sea also., two sinks in the bathroom, very large shower room very powerful shower and hot,in house toiletries to use, and a separate room for the toilet. Safe in the wardrobe easy to use and free of charge, we were all inclusive and WiFi was included worked even when down at the furthest pools over looking the pool.
Food was very good had something every day and not repetitive, Asian restaurant, bar and grill restaurant, Italian restaurant, and large restaurant that did a variety of food, also a small snack area you could help burgers fries, hot dogs, fresh fruit, sandwiches.
Children were well catered for own pool and good animation team .

This hotel is definitely not a 4 star hotel, it is 3 star at best. After staying in lots of 4 and 5 star hotels previously, this hotel is let down by its restaurants. I would expect in a 4 star restaurant to be seated by Maitre D' or waiter at every meal (not just Dinner) and be waited on with drinks. On the first night ourselves and a group of new arrivals turned up to the themed restaurant and a very rude and aggressive head waiter looked very annoyed at us, then snatched everyone's tickets off them, and pointing towards tables implying we should find our own table. At breakfast and lunch you are expected to find your own table, often having to ask a waiter to clean one so we could use it. Also all four seater tables are only laid for two people and not fully laid with cutlery, etc., you are just expected to get your own items you need. We found the food very repetitive and quite tasteless. We understand this hotel is catering for a cosmopolitan clientele but a 4 star restaurant should have more choice and more flavours. We were shocked to discover that the themed restaurant was just buffet service again, not table service. Also we found that we had to queue a great deal for food, especially in the themed restaurant as everyone arrives at the same time. We have never queued for food like you have to in this hotel and it appears that the restaurants are not big enough for the amount of guests. Maybe the hotel restaurants are struggling for staff due to it renovation closure in a few weeks, were not sure! Also a 4 star hotel would have free wifi in all areas, but you have to pay for it and can only use it in reception area. The entertainment at night is not 4 star standard either, however the animation staff do work really hard. The hotel is spotless and the cleaning staff work tirelessly. There isn't much in the area around the hotel but there is a free shuttle bus three times a day to/from Playa De Las Americas which is bookable from 6pm the evening before. Just one point which is not the fault of the hotel but the coastal path around the hotel to the bars and shops is closed due to building work and you have to walk around the road to get to that area, although there is still access to the beach.

We had to stay here for one night due to our plane being diverted, so glad we didn't book a holiday here.
The ONLY good thing about this Hotel, was the staff, friendly, helpful and kind.
We were given a terrible room, not sure if it was because of our circumstances, but the TV was definitely really old, big tube style, and the rest of the furniture looked like it was from the 90's.
Food was good, but I get tired of RIU standardizing ALL of it's Hotels with the same food, what happened to regional dishes, and good ole Chefs flair, not allowed at RIU it seems.
Our Room was part of an outside courtyard, right next to the Pool tables, with kids playing on them well after midnight with their shouting, screaming, and cheering...where were their parents?.
The bed, was seriously hard, Had no give in it at all.
The Computers to access internet are running Windows XP, and you still have to pay 1 Euro for 16 minutes. The WiFi is expensive and is sold in groups of hours, seriously RIU, that's utterly ridiculous.
The main seating area where the bars are have the most out dated and uncomfortable furniture, it seems this Hotel has not had any money spent on it in many years, shame, it's in a great location.

Huge hotel, but very clean and well looked after. Food was good, although a little repetitive, two pools plus one for the kiddies. Large bar area with entertainment in the evenings, outside bar, beach restaurant as well. Plenty of sun loungers around the pools.
Our room was amazing - huge twin bedded room with an en suite (which had a separate bath and shower)- plus a separate sitting room, another loo and a large veranda. Only down side, was our veranda didn't get the sun. There was a fridge in the sitting room are but no tea/coffee making facilities (we took a travel kettle) and free use of a safe.
Large selection of food available at every meal, and they are able to provide gluten/ dairy free. Each breakfast i would ask the waiter for some gluten free bread, and he's bring it along with some tiny gluten free muffins and biscuits!
Staff are very pleasant and helpful, bottled water is freely available from the reception area. There are a few small shops within the huge reception area, selling all manner of holiday essentials and souveneirs, plus a hairdresser who also offer massage. I had a massage and must say, it was very good.
Over all a good experience, although we do prefer an adults only hotel.

As many reviewers have pointed out the hotel was set in lovely grounds and the staff worked tirelessly to keep it clean and tidy and they were very pleasant. The reason for my description is what I felt was the poor state/facilities in the bedrooms. In the UK a Premier Inn which I would describe as budget would provide you with free WiFi, tea making facilities, comfy bed and flat screen tv. There was no WiFi in the bedroom, it was only in reception and had to be paid for, there were no tea making facilities, the bed was hard but that’s a personal matter. The TV was quite old and I haven’t seen one like it for a long time. The furniture was really tired and knocked and was on its last legs and will no doubt be in the skip when the refurbishment takes place. I think if the hotel was reviewed again it wouldn’t achieve a 4 star. We stayed in block D which was in a way separated from the main building, there are a number of trees outside which can restrict views. Our room had a big tree outside which blocked any view apart from the portaloo in the Storm Drain they were constructing next to the block. We did ask to be moved, and after a little help from the rep we had a room at the front of the hotel ( block B), The food was ok, perhaps somewhat repetitive but we ate well. The weather was great, however we wouldn’t return here in its present state.

Arrived at 5.30pm feb 21st , it was about a 30 min transfer from airport , Check in was quick , all inclusive bands put on and was told to go and have a drink / food and come back in 30 min for room keys! Staff all very friendly and helpful couldn't fault any of them ! Room was very spacious and clean , 2 rooms one with settee , Tele fridge and toilet and second room had bed , wardrobe and bathroom with bath and separate shower , hair dryer in rooms but no kettle. Bed were comfortable, no air conditioning in room so can get quite hot at night, cleaner came every day and room was always spotless . Childrens pool was warm enough to use even this time of year , infinity pool was quite cold but lower pool was a lot warmer, had no problem getting sun beds as long as you were by pool by about 10 .
Restaurant was massive but never had a problem getting a table , staff were very prompt to seat you and being a party of 9 people would go out of thier way to put tables together for us . There was always plenty of choice and plenty to eat , help yourself lager ( amstel ) wines and soft and fizzy drinks , cocktails and spirits you had to go to bar for! We booked a table in the themed restaurant on our last night which was Chinese menu , food was delicious and waiter came round with drinks of your choice . Walked out of hotel one day , shops were about a 15 min walk found a nice British bar . Entertainment was excellent and we attended the shows every night , the Disney show put on by the animation team was excellent .
The hotel has a few shops in it and a hair dressers . Bottled water is available from reception . While there we had a severe sandstorm and were unable to go outside for a day but didn't really spoil out holiday and the maintenance staff worked flat out the next day to get the pools cleaned and opened
I would definetly recommend this hotel and would return

Stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment with my husband and 2 children, great sized room and perfect for what you need, good size balcony, room service was very good. I love the new riu app, it means you can order anything you require right from your phone e.g towels, toilet paper etc. The hotels refurbishment is very high standards, clean and spacious. Staff are all very friendly and do try their best to go the extra mile. There is not a lot around this hotel but cars are very cheap to hire and i would recommend this to see the beauty of the island. Masks are required to be worn at all times in the hotel unless you sat in your bubble this includes round the pool, beach and bars. Masks are also required to be worn around the streets not just shops, but they have lost tourism for so long you can appreciate their precautions. This hotel is also none smoking anywhere!, so you do have to go right out to main entrance if you smoke which was a particular pain to my husband. Plenty of pool space due to so many pools!, bars close to all and snacks all day which is good if you have children! Clean pool towels available daily, we had no problem getting sun beds but they are just gradually filling up but i don't think be an issue, its a big hotel. The only negative for me was the food was not all labelled in the buffet, sometimes you had to guess what it was, very annoying when they have a great range of sauces but no card to tell you what they all are etc. They have great range of foods, you do get the typical all inclusive repeat of foods but they try to mix up best they can. They also have independent restaurants you can book into on site that is worth a visit and inclusive. All round good hotel and we would return! Thank you

Arrived early hours check in was quick and staff were extremely happy, polite and efficient.
Covid restrictions in place, face masks mandatory whilst moving around inside and outside the grounds of the hotel.
Room was spacious clean and overlooked the pools & sea.
Little strange at first having one door leading to room 1 & 2 under the same number
As previous reviews, everything you needed in your room apart from tea/coffee facilities. In other Riu hotels this has been provided.
Bar service good along with variety of drinks. Would recommend the Cava & Miami Vice cocktail 😊
24 hour bar - have to say they have the best staff 👍
Bottled water available to you.
Food nice in the main restaurant with something for everyone, but would have been better if served to you in the speciality dining. Hence my rating.
I would say given the COVID restrictions, in other hotel restaurants we had visited during the past year, it was more appropriate the availability of gloves in all restaurants using the utensils whilst being buffet style especially after other guests using them - it seemed more appropriate to do this given the situation.
Always sun beds available and clean towels daily. Only point I’d make is that the towel station could have been open till at least 6pm.
Pool are nice with great views. We used the adults pool each day, they even came around with cocktail on one occasion. That was a nice touch.
Entertainment varied but this wasn’t important to us. Other guest seemed to enjoy it.
We walked into the town just a couple of bars and restaurants along with a supermarket medical centre/pharmacy and a hairdressers.
Little shopping centre up the road just out of the hotel too
Taxi into Las America’s was €17 & €23 on the return
Reception will print any documents off you may need and also give you the use of a courtesy room.
Download the RIU App for all facilities available and times of restaurants that you can also book via this. If you have a problem in your room this can also be raised on the App.
All in all lovely holiday with nice views and good staff

It stopped in covid and wasnt going when we went a few years ago, maybe email the hotel
From what I can remember the 3 specialty restaurants you can visit as many times as you like. Even though they are classed as specialty restaurants, they are buffet and not ala carte.
In order to try and get reservations on the nights that you want you need to book via the app as soon as possible after you've checked in.
Hi there...
- I saw kids club near kids pool but didn't see much going on during my stay.
- I didn't see kids mini disco after dinner. Some people said it was started early but I didn't see any after 19.00... Saw the evening entertainment at around 20.30 😊
There was a kettle in the room when we were there.
