4 one room log cabins on the waterfront are cozy and clean. Fully equipped kitchens, good double beds, picnic tables and firepits. Electric heat for spring and autumn adventurers. Sand beach on site, waterfall 1 km upriver. Relax, unplug, unwind! The land that time forgot is close to Algonquin Park (21 km), and has a lot of the same features in the area. Wildlife/bird watching, hiking, fishing, canoeing, berries and mushrooms in season. 85 Km of contiguous waterway; Moore's Creek, Madawaska River, Bark Lake. Central washrooms with hot showers and flush toilets. 40 campsites are large, for families and groups. 8 have electricity and water hookups for trailers. Excellent cell, 4G reception from nearby tower. This is nature's playground, no swings or slides required. Pack your toys, leave the noise, and come to where the wildlife isn't human! Note: these are housekeeping, or self-catered, units.

We stayed in this beautiful cabin for the Thanksgiving Weekend. What a wonderful time we had! This place is so cozy and inviting! We enjoyed sitting on the front garden overlooking the serene and beautiful Bark Lake. The weather might be gloomy but the peacefulness and postcard

We are newcomers to Canada and went to this camping for September long weekend. We had our tent at the waterfront and enjoyed beach, fishing and mushroom hunt. Evenings with barbecue on a fire pit were great too! Sandra (owner) is a clever and attentive host. I recommend this

Thanks for your kind words. It was a pleasure to have you. Wasn't it great that you met someone from your home town, who is also a recent arrival to Canada? And your husbands have the same first name! It's a small world here in Madawaska. This is not the first time such coincidences have occurred. I hope to see you again soon.

We arrived at Red Deer Campground late afternoon. Apart from the people renting the cabins, we were the ONLY campers in the section near the water. There was no map. The sites were not well defined or numbered. Because we sleep in our van, we had to find a flat spot, which we

Hi Lynn. Sorry you misunderstood my original description of the north boundary of your site. I held my arms out, standing beside the service point, and motioned that your site was south of that. You found flat ground within your site when I defined it again. You were offered a site that is flatter. Another camper told me that there was a vehicle parked in the open area, as I was busy with other duties and had not noticed. When there are other campers present upon arrival, the yen to spread out is naturally curtailed. Moore's Creek is a river. I want visitors to understand that the waterway is much bigger than what you can see. 85 km of contiguous waterway to enjoy, not just the couple of acres of imaginary lake that is visible. There is more information that goes with the statement, but you were irritated with me, so I cut it short. There is no local recycling in the Township of South Algonquin. I do not have a way to dispose of the items left behind except the local landfill. Instead, I encourage people to choose carefully, reduce, and in some cases they take recycling home or to a location where recycling is available. A lot of my premises is re-built from recycled, re-purposed material. There is no wi-fi because there is no highspeed unlimited internet service in remote areas. Internet comes by satellite. To have enough data allocation to serve clients at peak times means the contract has to be in place 12 months of the year. It would make your campsite prohibitively expensive to bundle that in. There is a cell tower with clear reception nearby, so clients are not separated from communication, just I cannot afford to provide it. I believe that none of the local tourism providers offer free wi-fi. Neither does Algonquin Park. I do encourage people to back away from the machine, give themselves a digital vacation. I continue to look for a solution to this limitation. Credit cards cost up to 7% + a system access fee depending on what card is offered. I use that margin to continue to improve and deal with the up to 25% increase from my suppliers this year. But enough about the difficulties of small business in a modern era... Paper towels often wind up in toilets. When paper towels were supplied, the washrooms had to be shut too often and everyone pushed to the outhouses until the septic could be opened up and the pipes cleared. I ask that showers are short and that energy and water are conserved. This goes with the philosophy I started with here 29 years ago. The world is finally catching up. Long showers are mostly a matter of habit, not need. Reality states that wells have a bottom and septic systems have a top. The river water is fabulously clean; it does not need to be washed off after swimming. There is no map; new arrivals are escorted to a site that fits their requirements Sites are not numbered, instead they have names. You were on Cedars. My regular clients enjoy not being a number. They find it liberating. You were a surprise arrival. I never know, except for those who book ahead, how many travelers to expect in any one evening. I keep the sites organized so that anyone else arriving has choice and space. Unexpected arrivals may be none, and may be 20. You must have voice capture since your relating of your story includes a series of 'quotes'. As I have dealt with people from all over the world for 29 years, I do have a routine for questions and explanations many owners would never offer. The less than 3% dissatisfaction rate is not reflected in my reviews and ratings, because people who are pissed off are more likely to write than those who had a perfect stay, having found the perfect place (for them). My website is full of information not provided by other properties; It is not possible to repeat all of it for every client. Instead, I hope that I am dealing with common sense, and give the most expedient information when orienting a new arrival. Questions are readily answered. Assumptions are discouraged. This is an unusual place; people tend to love it or find it lacking, not much in between. I stand by my evaluation of 97% in love.

We had a great time. The campers we talked to spoke highly of the owner and the campground. We found her( Sandra) to be very down to earth ,friendly and answered any questions we may have had. We seem to rely too much on technology instead of experiencing the great outdoors and

Hope to see you often. This has been a big season for 'ex-locals', such as I have never seen. So many people with local roots somehow, nearby in one of the small towns. Timely, because the Township of South Algonquin is doing an exercise in creating a living museum, and is looking for photos and other documentation of the area's past.

Been here a few times over the years. Loved it each time. The last time we came was 2 years ago with our dog Maya. It was a very relaxing trip we rented a canoe and paddled to the falls. The campgrounds proximity to Algonqin Park cant be beat and the prices are amazingly

You are funny, can't wait to get here, much more exciting than getting hitched! Honoured that you have chosen to honeymoon here, the next in a long line of event celebrations brought from around the world to Reddeer Log Cabins in Madawaska. Anniversaries (35th, after they honeymooned here long before I bought the place), birthdays, last blast before leaving Canada for an extended time abroad, wedding proposals, family gatherings... I'll warn you now that numerous children have been conceived here too :-D In the spring there are 3 waterfalls up the river, when the freshet is running. Just like at Niagara. Another honeymoon destination with a waterfall.

For some reason I am not receiving notification that there is a question. Yes, there is a seasonal rate. Please contact me directly by phone or email. Please Google Red Deer Log Cabins; my contact details are not posted on TA because of the prohibitive fees charged by them. Just keeping vacation costs down by doing things the less expensive way...

Yes I do. Please call directly; Red Deer Log Cabins is on the internet. When you stay a full week 2 nights are free. I am the owner, and this site is not allowing me to use my own screen name, so I am forced to choose another so that I can answer you here. We have already spoken on the phone. Trip Advisor is not an instant service, it can take up to 3 days for messages from my page to be received.
