I cannot stress enough how lovely this place is. Hosted by the fantastic Alice & Gavin, we enjoyed a wonderful week here. Welcoming and peaceful with great views and even better food. Our son played with their three children and fell in love with their friendly dogs. We fell in love with the way of life, and we all came away having made new friends and taken in some Italian countryside and culture. We still dream of spending evenings supping wine and homemade aperitifs whilst watching the fireflies. Not usually ones to visit the same place twice, but we'll definitely be back.

For the third time in two years we spent another lovely week at Ca Valenzano by Sestino in Tuscany. There's a reason for returning. It's peaceful and tranquil. Alice and Gavin can't be helpful enough - and Alice is a great cook. A trip to the local agrotourismo is always a must, as is a walk in the Parcodisassosimeone. We just love it. We will be going back next year !

Alice and Gavin have worked really hard to turn a hillside property into a real gem of a place. The accommodations are great, the work done is of a high standard and they keep it up really well. We took both "apartments" so that our teenage daughters had one section and we had the other, it worked superbly. As mentioned in another post, both Alice and Gavin have really integrated the community in Sestino, and it was great to have their local knowledge as well as understanding what's around you without having to figure it out in Italian (especially limited one like mine). Other than making us fantastically at ease and welcoming us to their world, they gave us some excellent recommendations on what to do and we did not manage half of it. Which is why we are now planning to come back again, the region is amazing and has so much to offer and so far off the tourist tracks, smashing.

If you are after a relaxing, no fuss vacation then this is the place for you. Set in the foothills of Tuscany the loudest noise you hear will be the local wildlife. The premises consists of two holiday lets, one family size and the second smaller unit suitable for 2 or 3 people. Both units have full facilities for the preparation and cooking of meals and all mod cons except the dreaded TV. The local area is ideal for those wishing to walk the hills, bird watch or simply sunbathe. The local village of Sestino is set two kilometres down the valley, where provisions can be purchased from the local stores or meals sampled at the excellent restaurants. The owners Gavin and Alice are a font of knowledge about local restaurants (Most of which they have used) and places to visit. In each let is a folder containing pamphlets which other users have visited during their stay.

We had a wonderful stay here. Incredible views down the valley when we woke up for breakfast each morning and in the evenings. The gardens are full of the smell of lavender and the cool-off pool was very welcome in the summer weather. We didn't have a car but never felt isolated - there were some excellent local restaurants which we managed to incorporate into some walks. Gavin and Alice were extremely helpful in recommending some local trails in the area. They were also very accommodating in providing lifts to the nearby town of Sestino for supplies etc and giving a lift to a local train station (the latter for a reasonable fee). There's also an amazing wild swimming spot in the nearby town of Borges Place. It's such a relaxing and beautiful place to stay.
