Stayed here for 3 nights, about 45 minute drive from airport. Mick was very welcoming and provided everytthing we needed for a great stay. Comfortable cabana, very clean. Great food served in lovely dining room with other guests. Mick sorted us out for tours to Lamanai and a local birding guide for 2 walks. But there is excellent birding all round the lodge, just wander around the gardens for birds and howler monkeys. All the team were very helpful and friendly. Very relaxed atmosphere too. We had Cabana 4, made for a spectacular view in the morning over the lagoon.
We really enjoyed our stay at Crooked Tree Lodge and would stay there again if we return to Belize. We stayed in Cabin 5, which had two beds, its own bathroom, and plenty of room for my husband, son and I. It's quiet there and I slept very well despite being a light sleeper. There was a fan and a constant breeze from the lake that kept the place cool enough to be comfortable. The owners, Mic and Angie, prepared tasty meals and happily catered to us being vegetarians with some additional dietary restrictions. They also offered transfers from Belize City/airport to their lodge (and for less than the other transfers there I investigated). The birds on the lake are amazing, with multiple types of king fishers and herons and storks as well as spoonbills and others. There are also many flycatchers, warblers, etc. on the grounds. The lake was unseasonably low when we were there (end of March - usually a great time I think), which was too bad and meant we couldn't take a boat tour out, but we could still see the birds fine from land. The grounds are well kept and safe and the owners lovely hosts.…
Our family enjoyed our stay at Crooked Tree. Mick served us a hearty breakfast and dinner and had great tips about things to do while dad went bird watching. Excellent diversity of birds in the area. We were glad we stayed here as some of the species my husband found, he only observed around the lodge! The cabanas were very charming and nicely decorated. Excellent wifi too, which was nice for those of us who still have to work while on vacation. It would be great if the windows had screens, as the mosquitos sought out our youngest kid with a vengence!
The proprietors are warm friendly people who are very helpful. The food is wonderful and Lu and Fred will try to get back as soon as we can. We learned a bit about bird watching from the other guests. We stayed 3 days and it wasn't enough. Can't recommend this place to highly. No glitz, no night life-just great relaxation.
We had high expectations leading up to our stay and we were not disappointed. The setting was lovely. Our cabin faced the lagoon and was very comfortable although screens would have been welcome. The main building had a comfortable living room and dining area. We enjoyed the tasty and affordable breakfasts and dinners. The owner was very helpful. Our bag failed to arrive on our connecting flight. While we were on a day trip, he called the airline customer service to confirm that the bag will be delivered. The lodge exceeded our expectations.
