Our quiet, family friendly resort is nestled in the jungle in the Cayo District of Belize, 7 miles from the bustling twin towns of Santa Elena & San Ignacio. We're only 2 miles from the Western Highway on the Mountain Pine Ridge Rd. Our driveway is 1/2 mile of rock and gravel, leading to our secluded jungle retreat. 4WD or AWD is best for reaching our location. We are conveniently located to access many of the popular tours and sites of the area. The resort consists of 5 private, spacious cabañas, each with AC and a private patio. Our restaurant features a covered outdoor dining area overlooking our newly renovated swimming pool. We enjoy beautiful panoramic sunrise views of the Maya mountains. Enjoy birdwatching in our gardens or a walk through our jungle trails. We are an eco-friendly resort, harvesting rain water & using solar power. Every effort is being made to maintain the natural environment while providing a clean, comfortable stay with modern amenities including free wifi.

I'm really not the most experienced traveller or tourist, so you can take this with a grain of salt if you like. But this was far-and-away the best place I've stayed at in my travels so far. The Room: My partner and I were staying in the "executive suite". It was spacious, comfortable, and well-lit - it had recently been renovated. It had a splendid view of the grounds and the forest beyond. The website rightly identified that there's not much water pressure in the shower, but we found it more than enough for our purposes. AC worked well, but during our stay we found the ceiling fans were often more than adequate. The Grounds: Beautiful and well-maintained. The owners and staff should be proud of the standard they've maintained. Flowers and trees well tended-to, pool is clean and a nice temperature though we didn't make much use to it. As an avid birdwatcher, the lane is great to stroll; there are trails running through the jungle below the resort; and there are a number of scenic viewpoints overlooking a gorge running below the resort (especially beautiful and sunup and sundown!) The Restaurant/Bar: Food was delicious! Breakfasts are standard continental breakfast fare - they are flexible dinners are usually limited to a choice of one of a couple of options, but whatever we ordered was tasty and reasonably-priced. You can also order off a larger menu when the restaurant is open for lunch. As for drinks, the owners are pretty good mixologists as well! The restaurant itself is open-air, with a great view of the pool and hills beyond. Fortunately, there were virtually no biting insects at any point of our stay. The Location: I wasn't able to rent a 4WD/AWD on arrival in Belize, and I *did* get stuck on the incline on the road in - put it up to my inexperience with steep grades! Road condition was fine, though, and after that first hiccup I didn't have any issues driving the roadway. This place would be a bit isolated if you didn't have your own vehicle, but there are a number of restaurants and points-of-interest within a short drive of the resort - just ask the owners and they'll be happy offer suggestions. On the whole, it is a tranquil location - very easy to get a good long sleep! The Owners/Staff: Well, if people are the true measure of a place, Gumbo Limbo couldn't be in better hands. Jay and Christine were true treasures - and I'm not just saying that as a biased fellow-countryman! (We're all Canadians) Extremely hospitable and accommodating, always there with suggestions for activities or just to offer interesting conversation. Christine knew her birds as well, which is always nice! The atmosphere was always cozy up at the restaurant. The other staff were always friendly as well, and the dogs - well, we loved all three of them!

Jay and Christine are wonderful hosts and the property is amazing. Christine had breakfast ready for us in the open air dining area every morning, and was a font of local knowledge. Jay was great, friendly and keeps a great bar. The staff made us a really nice dinner the one night we opted to eat there and were very open to accommodating our dietary preferences (vegan and vegetarian) The dogs greeted us every morning at breakfast which was perfect for our family. If you drive yourselves be aware that the driveway to the property, while better than many Belizian roads still requires that you pay attention.

This property and our stay exceeded our expectations. If you want somewhere a little off the beaten path, with a beautiful environment, wonderful accommodations and some privacy this is the place to book. It is off the road and in a beautiful area of the jungle. There are only five cabins surrounding an open area and you have the upmost of privacy and quiet. There is a beautiful pool and quiet deck. The owners are present, friendly, helpful and super nice. We had breakfast there daily (continental and included) and ate dinner there each night too which was home cooked and wonderful. I would highly recommend this property for couples, families or a solo traveler.

After a long travel day it felt so welcoming to be greeted with a smile and a hot, delicious meal. This location is small and personal. The room was clean and comfortable. The lovely patio allowed lots of bird watching and admiring of the breeze and the view. The hosts were so friendly. They answered my endless questions with humor and we all shared stories and laughs. The resort dogs were a bonus that made me feel at home. There is a lovely little pool that felt so good at the end of a hot, busy day of exploring. Chris arranged a tour for us, fed us and Jay provided a spare set of sunglasses when my spouse broke his. That is just above and beyond service.

Spent a week doing a number of Belizian adventures. Used Gumbo as home base. Jay and Christine treated us like we were family. Helped make arrangements for a bunch of excursions. Tikal, Barton Creek, Zipline, Cave Tubing, Xunantunich... Rooms had plenty of space for our family of 4. Air Conditioned!!! Great food too!

Our family of 6 adults spent the first two nights of our recent spring break trip to Belize at GumboLimbo which we used as a base for a day trip to Tikal to see the Mayan ruins there. We couldn't be happier with our choice. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the resort was a great place to relax, chill by the pool, listen to birds in a natural setting, and wake up to amazing views after a couple of travel-heavy days. Christine and Jay (and dogs Lilly and Opal) are super attentive hosts and we enjoyed great dinners that they prepared each evening (Christine's deserts are delicious). If you want a great place to relax, surrounded by a natural environment with attentive and caring hosts, GumboLimbo has you covered.

Gumbo Limbo Jungle Resort is the perfect place to stay when in the greater San Ignacio area and planning to visit ATM or Mayan ruins. First, it begins with the remarkably friendly and talented owners, Christine and J, who live on the property and assist you all day and every day. Luckily for the guests they treat this large beautiful property as their home, so guests end up feeling completely comfortable and welcomed. Thanks to the new, modern road built outside the Gumbo Limbo property, it is very easy and quick to get to all the important places and activities in the region. Need help booking a day outing or driving yourself to an adventure? Christine will supply the essential information. Anything need fixing? J is on it! Just want to read a book all day, take naps on a hammock, and take dips in the pool? You couldn't ask for a more relaxing location. After a day of Maya ruins, horseback riding, or cave exploring, you need a quiet and beautiful place to unwind. Gumbo has air conditioned rooms, hammocks with views, a refreshing pool, or cocktails on the patio. All of this precedes some of the most delicious dinners you can be served in Belize. While dinner is optional (since a continental breakfast is included in your room), we highly recommend taking all your dinners at Gumbo Limbo. Even though the price is more than right, more importantly, the dinners Christine, J, and the staff prepare are exactly what you need when traveling. Although they sell beverages, Christine will even direct you to some surprisingly excellent wine shops in San Ignacio. Finally, Christine, J, and their hard working staff find a way to connect everyone visiting Gumbo Limbo through engaging and friendly conversation. Thank you to all of them for being a highlight of our vacation in Belize! Stephen and Michele

I stayed at Gumbo Limbo for a few nights while I was in Belize. The staff connected me with a tour company and helped arrange all my activities--caves, ruins, etc. They were friendly and treated me like family, and took care of all my needs. The rooms were furnished and comfortable, and the resort itself was teeming with bird life and had an excellent swimming pool.

The remote jungle setting is beautiful, quiet and peaceful. It is conveniently situated on the way to the Maya ruins and other outdoor adventures, and not far from the town of San Ignacio. We liked the fact that the resort itself has a small number of units/cabanas, so it was never crowded (although we were there in the slow season). Christine and Jay were wonderful hosts, providing casual conversation, helpful information about things to do in the local area and always making sure we were well cared for during our visit. The on site restaurant and bar had wonderful food and drinks and was reasonably priced, so we didn't feel the need to go elsewhere for meals. Having a mini fridge in the cabana would have been nice but we managed without one. Our cabana was private, clean and comfortable and spacious for two people. We highly recommend staying here while in Belize!
