My husband and I stayed at the Black Orchid for just one night in March before we headed off to an island for a week of diving. Black Orchid was on the list of recommended resorts near Belize City that was provided by our island resort. We were glad to find a place that was out of the city, in a safe, peaceful location on a river. We were also very glad that Black Orchid offered a variety of day trips, so we were able to fit in a tour to see one of the pyramid ruins called: Altun Ha. We arrived to Belize International airport and a driver from Black Orchid came to pick us up. A little while after we checked in, we took our tour of Altun Ha. We were surprised that we were the only ones on the tour, so we had a private guide. Besides being very good explaining everything about Belize and the ruins, he was also kind enough to pull over to let us stop at a food store to pick up some of Belize’s famous Marie Sharpe’s hot sauce. Our room was very casual, with a nice deck area that faced the river and also the pool off to one side. When we were sitting out, we were greeted by the distinctive sound of Howler monkeys and were able to spot a family high up in some trees right beside the resort. We had a nice seafood dinner at the resort that evening. All staff were very friendly. We wished we had another couple of days to stay there so that we could go on a few more tours and explore the area. A driver took us back to the airport the next day for us to catch our flight to our next destination. If we ever get back to Belize again, and needed to stay near Belize City, we would definitely book a stay at Black Orchid again. Friendly staff, a safe, peaceful setting with a variety of interesting personal tours.…
It seemed like we were the only travelers staying at the Resort. The staff was great. The bar tender really took good care of us. The restaurant served good tasty food and made it Keto for us. We booked trips to Lamanai and Tikal through the resort and they were exceptional. The driver that drove us to San Ignacio and Lamanai was great and knew his local stuff. We were met at the airport and shuttled back to the airport with no worries. Our room was clean and well appointed. We will stay here next time we are in Belize. THANKS to the staff for making our trip awesome.
We stayed here for two nights as part of a tour of Belize. We were picked up from the airport by the hotel and given a welcome drink on arrival. We were shown to our large twin double room by a very friendly member of staff. I was really impressed with how clean the room was and the beds were very comfortable. The hotel sits on the banks of a river and is a lovely quiet spot to relax with a drink. The staff behind the bar and the chef in the restaurant were really friendly. We ate in the restaurant both nights and the food was very good, I especially enjoyed the catch of the day. Breakfast was also good and included, juice, tea, coffee, fresh fruit, beans, egg, potatoes and fry jacks which were great. If you are looking for somewhere to stay not far from the airport this is definitely the place.…
We stayed at the Black Orchid as part of our G Adventures tour. From the time we checked in with our complimentary run punch, the manager and staff went out of their way to ensure our needs were met. On very short notice, they arranged an excursion to the Belize Zoo. Our driver, a member of the resort staff, also acted as our very knowledgeable guide. Many other excursions were offered as well. The all inclusive breakfast offered fruit, eggs and bacon, various delicious pastries and the ever popular fry jacks. The grounds with all the tropical plants were immaculate, and a pleasure to wander around in. An extra tip of the hat to the manager for going out of her way to make our stay a pleasant one. We would recommend this little gem of a resort.
Our group used a bus service owned by Black Orchid. The bus was always clean and smelled fresh. Our driver, Edmond was exceptional! He was very professional and courteous. He was also knowledgeable and helpful. I definitely recommend him for groups visiting Belize City.
