Stayed here with my daughter and husband for 1 night before our 9 day trip into the Rainforest and then on returning from up the river, for several hours during the day before leaving for a late night flight from Manaus. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Rooms were clean as were the public areas of pool and bar/restaurant. Breakfast was excellent, with enormous variety and plenty of it. Short walk to restaurants and dock. A very pleasant place to stay.

Basic but respectable accommodation but the real benefit here is direct access to the Rio Negro with decking and great swimming, a good sized outdoor pool and a bar/restaurant area looking out over the water. Iguanas in view for breakfast. Breakfast was quite reasonable though the restaurant didn’t appear to have any evening business the three nights we stayed. Tours available from reception were good if a bit pricey. Several options for food in the town. Pink dolphins just 10 minutes walk away!

To start with, Novo Airao is not a budget place to stay. The room rates are higher than in the rest of the region, including the city of Manaus. Also Pousada Bela Vista charged R180 (September 2018) for a doubled, instead of the average R140. In addition, unlike in for example Manaus, they add 5%, if the money is paid by a credit card. I therefore paid my three nights in cash. The pousada is under a major renovation now, half of the building under not-so-active construction work (only one of hammering, once during my stay). For most of the time, I was the only staying customer, in addition to daily swimming pool and restaurant guests. In the mornings, I had to leave before the breakfasts (included), and missed each three of them (no compensation could be negotiated). It was good to leave early (for birdwatching), because a resident 'rooster' started its morning concert at the same time, one hour before sunrise. The bed was fine, and the towels, television and the fridge, too. The ac was not quite efficient enough for the triple room (charged as a double). The toilet/shower was tiny but everything was in good order. It was possible to park close to the room. Overall, I was satisfied (average +) with the accommodation, originally chosen because my first choice, Pousada Novo Airao, was fully booked on a weekend. For me, it was only a place for a rest. My activities were located in a forest short distance away, and I had no interest in boat trips to the river.

Rooms are basic but clean. Air conditioning is quite noisy. There is a nice view of Río Negro from the pousada. Breakfast is very good. The best was the deck where you can swim in the river. The tours are very expensive but it is worth it. We did the 2 days Jau tour with Cesar, an excellent portuguese speaking guide. Cesar is very knowledgeable of animals and plants in amazon. We did not like that we still have to pay for the room the night that we slept in the camp in the jungle.

We picked this pousada because we wanted to experience the Amazon (or Rio Grande) in a more personal and direct way and not be in a large set-up. Although we are used to rather high-end accommodation this pousada certainly met our needs in terms of clean and spacious room with a comfortable bed and balcony, and a great view of the river. However, we weren't really here to spend time in our room. Instead the main focus was on experiencing nature. Beforehand I had contacted Claus with what we were looking for: a number of personalized tours to different parts of the nature reserve and we were not willing to share our boat with other passengers. This may come across as somewhat rude but the reason is actually quite simple: once you sign up for something where you are sharing (usually cheaper) it also means that you lose the freedom to decide you may want to head back early or stop somewhere for longer on the way. There are a number high-end lodges nearby that provide all-in packages and they probably do a great job but you are very likely to end up in a boat with other passengers. Another requirement was that we didn't want to stay overnight in the forest. This obviously limits things in terms of distance but we had done this before and although nice... it can also be somewhat uncomfortable and if the weather isn't great you are likely to wish could just return to your comfortable room. We were here during the start of the rainy season and did experience quite a bit of rain. It didn't dampen our spirits or diminish how much we enjoyed the trips we made but we did meet one couple on the way who were about to set up camp and that would be my worst nightmare. In short, we made three trips: two full-day river trips and one night trip. In total we stayed at this pousada for three nights. Unless you are very keen on hanging out at the pool or watching the river from the restaurant, three nights is probably enough for most. The car ride to and from the airport is about three hours plus; very comfortable. Service is impeccable. The staff is very well trained and the food at the restaurant surprisingly decent. It's a short walk into town where you will have some more options in terms of food (simple but okay, the pizza place is quite good), as well as some simple bars. It's a quiet and not particularly attractive town in terms of atmosphere but it's nice to have it nearby in case you want to get some groceries etc. All in all I would highly recommend this pousada for the way it is able to organize trips on the river. It's definitely an attractive alternative to the far more expensive river lodges nearby. For two persons, a double bedroom with en-suite bathroom and balcony, three river trips, and food and drinks, it cost us less than half what we would have paid at the more expensive places. Moreover, we had the boat all to ourselves, with one captain and a helper. If you have more specific requirements, do write to Claus directly. Internet permitting he writes back quite quickly and has great suggestions.

This pousada in Novo Airao offers an excellent price. Rooms are nice and clean with air conditioning, refrigerator and - for whom needs - tv. Breakfast is phenomenal - eggs, fruits, different kind of cakes - really huge variety. And from the restaurant you have a nice view to the river. The pousada offers also different tours to Anavilanas and Jau - highly recommeded - and from one day to four or five everything is possible. Best value for your money.

We had a very pleasant stay in German-run Pousada Bela Vista, the location is beautiful and directly by the river, the place nicely set in lush tropical gardens plus an amazing view overlooking the Rio Negro from the spacious veranda where you will also be able to observe green iguana, hummingbirds and other interesting wildlife. The fresh and delicious breakfast is included in the room price. The hotel has also got a clean swimming pool to escape the Amazon heat, a leisure area with hammocks to "hang out" in as well as a deck on the riverbank. All in all its likely the best value for your money you will get in N. Airão, which is also why many locals come here.

This place was highly rated by Lonely Planet. Rooms were OK, but not cleaned daily, the restaurant wasn’t functioning well on our visit, very long drive on terrible road to get there that cost R$340. Town is very poor and a bit decrepit, but interesting to see how small town people live in Brazil. The pool was nice as was the view, but not worth the time or money to get there. The surrounding area is cool, but if you go into the Amazon this area is only slightly different.

We had 6 wonderful nights at the Pousada Bela Vista. The pousada itself has nice rooms, a nice swimming pool, wonderful breakfast area and the Rio Negro river just some steps down from the pousada. From the pousada you can book tours to the Anavilhanas and Jao national parks. All in all a very nice and restful place. The owner Claus and his staff are very helpful and nice.

Superb location, the facilities are mid-range and certainly a great value for the money especially compared to the overpriced Anavilhanas lodge nearby. The breakfast is decent, if you want lunch or dinner you have to tell them in advance, and even then the food is just average, better to walk down to the town and get something there. The staff is friendly but the language was a problem, Luise saved us by being around whenever we needed her. Claus the owner is a great guy and helpful. He arranged for our boat rides which were underwhelming, we hardly saw any animals or birds. Over all an above average experience.
