Our daughter planned to get married in Gretna Green and she settled on The Gretna Chase Hotel because of the warm welcome and genuine interest that the people had for us rather than the commercial attitude that we received when looking at some of the other establishments in the area. We were given the opportunity to view the venue and... More

Where do I start ? Waited 15 mins for the elderly lady to ask if we wanted a drink, in fact I had to ask her despite the place being empty. We were in for lunch with my two year old daughter My partner got the fish and sent it back after one mouthful (which she spat onto the plate)... More

I attended a wedding at The Gretna Chase Hotel a few weeks ago and I have to say I could not fault. The food was excellent! Staff were friendly, and would do anything we needed to make the day perfect. Rooms were clean and had plenty of essentials. Bar staff were bubbly and always willing to help out. Overall the... We stayed here for a 3 day weekend for a friends wedding. The whole weekend was absolutely fantastic enjoyed by all! The food was out of this world for the wedding meal I had pate to start, and a steak Diane for main course which was cooked perfectly! There was a good selection of desserts to choose from I chose... Wedding: We arrived to very unfriendly and rude reception lady. No welcoming attitude or smile! Given the key with no help as to where the room was situated or even asking would we like help with luggage. The bar staff were rude 'yes' 'no' answers and again not even a smile. NO TIPS THERE THEN! The younger staff waiting on... More

We were made to feel very welcome and our room spacious and comfortable. We decided to eat in their restaurant and the food was excellent. The only downside we felt was the unfriendly lady serving behind the bar, it was as though she couldn't be bothered. Reception told us the restaurant closed at 9pm, (the lady behind the bar said... My husband and myself were quite tired after a long day of travelling when we checked in here well you could not wipe the smiles of our faces, after coming from a very old and dingy Hotel in Liverpool we were delighted with our first impressions, a very quaint Hotel with beautiful gardens and extremely friendly staff especially Carol and... General impressions of this hotel - It is very outdated - everything is written down on scraps of paper and totted up manually, to the extent that bar staff are literally glaring at you to even dare order another drink ( I kid you not - 9.30pm and bar server leaning on bar with arms folded glaring at us, then... Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Located on the Scottish / English border, Gretna Green is world famous for its runaway marriages and in the mid nineteenth century there was much rivalry between the various marriage house proprietors ... The Gretna Chase Hotel was built by John Murray, an extremely successful businessman in the marriage trade, and tenant of Allison's toll-bar. Completed in 1856, Murray built the hotel opposite the toll-bar. It proved very popular with clients, being the first in the area to offer stabling for horses. Today, The Gretna Chase Hotel offers modern amenities, but retains much of its original character. All bedrooms have pleasant views of the surrounding countryside, and public rooms are furnished in a style in-keeping with the age of the hotel. Fully licensed, privately owned and completely supervised by the owners, this small but extremely comfortable hotel offers the discerning guest a carefree informality away from city pressures. We would be delighted to show you around the hotel by appointment , to highlight all the facilities we have to offer and discuss your personal requirements. ... more   less
