Located on the Scottish / English border, Gretna Green is world famous for its runaway marriages and in the mid nineteenth century there was much rivalry between the various marriage house proprietors ... The Gretna Chase Hotel was built by John Murray, an extremely successful businessman in the marriage trade, and tenant of Allison's toll-bar. Completed in 1856, Murray built the hotel opposite the toll-bar. It proved very popular with clients, being the first in the area to offer stabling for horses. Today, The Gretna Chase Hotel offers modern amenities, but retains much of its original character. All bedrooms have pleasant views of the surrounding countryside, and public rooms are furnished in a style in-keeping with the age of the hotel. Fully licensed, privately owned and completely supervised by the owners, this small but extremely comfortable hotel offers the discerning guest a carefree informality away from city pressures. We would be delighted to show you around the hotel by appointment , to highlight all the facilities we have to offer and discuss your personal requirements.

I have stayed in this hotel countless times over the last couple of years with work and will gladly admit it is probably the best overall hotel in the area. It's reasonably priced, food is great and not over priced, staff are friendly and it just has a great feel to the place. On another note you don't have the motorway pounding past the window like some of the other hotels in the area. The hotel is ideal for any user: business, romantic or that runaway wedding. Would definitely recommend to anyone

The staff member that was on was amazing!! Food was brilliantly priced and of great quality. Would definitely stop here again if I was passing. Great atmosphere and a classic pub with a lot of history on the walls.

Stayed here for our 10th wedding anniversary. We actually stayed here when we got married. I cannot rate this hotel or staff highly enough. You are made to feel as part of the family and not a customer which to me is a rare thing. The rooms are spotless, the food is fantastic and the staff can’t do enough for you.

We stayed for one night as we were visiting the wedding open day at Gretna Green. It’s ideally located for Gretna green. When we arrived we were told our room had been upgraded from superior to deluxe superior which was a nice surprise. The room was really big and very nice and clean. We ate in the restaurant the food was lovely and we didn’t have to wait very long, the staff were very friendly too. In the morning we realised at 8:45 that breakfast finished at 9 I rang down to reception to check if this was correct and they said they’d wait for us to get there we arrived in the restaurant at 9 and were still served with a beautiful freshly cooked full English breakfast.

We chose this hotel as it was not far from the M6 and didn’t know what time we would arrive, as it was we were early and on arrival were told that we were staying at the same time as a wedding party was staying as well, and that our room had been upgraded to the Romeo and Juliet suite. They didn’t have to do it but was a nice touch. We enjoyed a very good evening meal and in the morning one of the best and cleanest looking breakfasts I’d ever had, and told the chef myself. The hotel is 5 minutes walk from the outlet village and a great place to get a bargain. The staff in the hotel are all friendly and efficient in carrying out their duties a place I will stay again.
