#1 of 5 hotels in Gretna
Located on the Scottish / English border, Gretna Green is world famous for its runaway marriages and in the mid nineteenth century there was much rivalry between the various marriage house proprietors ... The Gretna Chase Hotel was built by John Murray, an extremely successful businessman in the marriage trade, and tenant of Allison's toll-bar. Completed in 1856, Murray built the hotel opposite the toll-bar. It proved very popular with clients, being the first in the area to offer stabling for horses. Today, The Gretna Chase Hotel offers modern amenities, but retains much of its original character. All bedrooms have pleasant views of the surrounding countryside, and public rooms are furnished in a style in-keeping with the age of the hotel. Fully licensed, privately owned and completely supervised by the owners, this small but extremely comfortable hotel offers the discerning guest a carefree informality away from city pressures. We would be delighted to show you around the hotel by appointment , to highlight all the facilities we have to offer and discuss your personal requirements.

Stayed for one night to meet a friend for a meal as restaurant food looked good online. Room was great. Spacious, comfortable bed, separate shower and bath with loads of hot water and toiletries. Food was very good. The starter was the best prawn cocktail I've had in a long time. Steak was good enough but have tasted better and dessert was average. Breakfast was outstanding. There was a cleanliness issue with the bedspread that I reported to reception on departure. I've given 5 stars as I had a great night. A comfortable bed, good pub food and an amazingly friendly staff made for a fantastic stay. I would definitely stay again if back in the area. There are also lovely gardens to sit in but watch out for the wasps!

Stayed one night as a stopover on our journey and we were so impressed. Everything about this hotel exceeded our expectations, staff so helpful, room was lovely, bathroom spotless. Evening meal was delicious and such good value, it happened to be steak night and two meals including wine was just £32.50. Breakfast was lovely too. If we lived nearer we’d be back without a doubt.
