We absolutely loved our stay in Baan Talay Dao, the staff are so kind and friendly. The rooms are spotlessly clean and very comfortable and the location directly on the beach is perfect. We were on the first floor and had a beautiful balcony. I would have loved the door to the balcony to have had a fly screen and the hotel could do with upgrading the WiFi which was practically nonexistent. The breakfast was good. Would recommend

A small, intimate resort located a few kilometres south of the bustle of Hua-Hin, Baan Talay Dao offers a nice simple recluse with excellent service, a superb garden, and a simple - but well-tuned - restaurant which offers a sensible and authentic option of both Western and local cuisine throughout the day and evening.
Our "villa" was well-designed, kept immaculately clean, and had the advantage of ceiling ventilation in addition to AC (which basic rooms don't offer).
The 15m long, 1.5m deep pool was well-cleaned, and included a small children's option in addition, which was popular at weekends when families tended to arrive for 1-2 day visits.
The tides in the area mean that no immediate beach is available until mid-afternoon. (The hotel provides a shuttle to another beach, which I didn't make use of).
The sea along this stretch can be dramatically active - thrilling to watch at times, but not ideal for those who want beach access throughout the day.
Outside the hotel, there is a a great selection of local supermarkets and eateries - ranging from the simplest street food, to excellent fish/seafood restaurants which are yet cheap and informal. A cheap public taxi option runs on a quarter-hour tact both north to town and south, as required. To the north, local markets and shopping malls are but minutes away!
For a quiet getaway, 5 stars!

Pleasant small resort away from the beach frenzies in Hoa Hin. Room was comfortable and well appointed, restaurant served good local Thai food, and restaurant and small pool have a nice sea view. However, unfortunately, no beach access for a walk or swim.

My experience with Baan Talay Dao was excellent. The location, right on the beach, is awesome. My room was comfortable, hotel staff were great, and they have a very nice pool. The best part was the delicious breakfast buffet. See the photos!

My husband and I have just spent 10 days at the Baan Talay Dao Resort and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who wants to get away from it all but still have easy access to Hua Hin.

The resort itself is set in it's own oasis - very tropical. We had a villa and the standard of the room was excellent. It was very clean, beatifully furnished and included a cd/dvd player which was very handy when the rain came.

The pool was quite small which we were expecting and for the time of year we went it was fine but I'm not sure what it would be like during the high season.

I had several massages which I booked through the hotel and you could have them by the pool or in your room. They were excellent and extremely reasonable eg 500 baht for a 2 hour Thai massage.

The restaurant did a great breakfast in the morning and the food in the evening was fine. My only criticism is that it lacked any atomsphere at night as there was no music and the lights were bright but a few candles could sort that out.

The hotel put on a free minibus service to Huan Hin at 10am and 6pm which is about a 10 minute drive away. Hua Hin has some great restaurants and lots of shopping opportunities and it seems to be quite family oriented.

I would definitely recommend the Baan Talay Dao resort if you want somewhere peaceful, reasonably priced but with a bit of luxury!

We stayed in one of the Studios in February and had a great holiday.A lovely place to unwind. The food was good and dining right next to the sea was superb. The views were realy quite magnificent with a very tall golden statue of Buddah at the end of the bay. The staff were all very helpful and the free shuttle bus to Hua Hin was an added incentive to stay here. It was also easy to get a taxi or Tuk-Tuk from just otside the hotel.A short walk along the beach leads you to some nice restraunts one called Lets-Sea was really worth the short walk. The tide comes right up to the sea wall infront of the hotel leaving a beautiful clean beach to swim or walk to other places of interest. The rooms are very comfortable and quite spacious as was the bathroom and always cleaned to a very high standard. Tea/coffee making facilities in the room were an added bonus as was the fridge to store cool drinks. It was lovely to have our own varanda where we could sit outside enjoying the views and to appreciate the lush tropical gardens. We are staying again in Jan 2006

Great little family hotel.
We stayed here for 2 nights before joining son and his family at the Hilton.
Rooms are spacious, Bathrooms are a good size and staff are very friendly.
Breakfast was buffet style and more than adequate.
Pool while not big, was big enough for laps, and right on the beachfront.
Beach was excellent and stretched for kilometers to the north and about about 1 kilo to Ta Karib.
Restaurant was excellent, and overlooked the Beach. Try the Irish coffees,to die for and a work of art.
Had a meal at Madame Greens, just down the beach. This is a must if you like Thai seafood.
Mainly a local restaurant and food is great.
We were sorry to leave .
While not in Hua Hin propper is only 5 min by Local open air hop on hop off taxi and only 15Bt per person into town, or 150Bt for a taxi. Hotel also has a shuttle service.
If and when we return will stay here again.

My husband & I are just back from a relaxing 2 wk break at this hotel. It's a small intimate resort with lovely central courtyard, excellent location on beach and restaurant overlooking sea is wonderful. All the staff were very friendly & helpful. Most of the other guests were Japanese & European. The hotel is approx 10 mins by car/tuk tuk from centre of Hua Hin so walking into town is impossible but hotel has comp mini bus at 10am, 6pm & 6.30 pm and tuk tuk is only €2/£1.50 each way so this isn't a problem. Thai massage available on beach directly outside hotel 1hr costs 200 Baht approx €4/£2.75 excellent value. Our studio room was nice & comfortable but I wouldn't say it was luxurious. We thoroughly enjoyed our hol & would definately recommend this hotel to couples of any age but families with teenagers may find it too quiet/remote.

Perfect two days.. My now wife and I planned to get married in December 2011 at Hua Hin.

April 2011 She found a wonderful venue, we booked in and started to plan. 4 weeks later, the Venue contacted us and said that due to a computer system issue they had now doubled booked, they were no longer able to accommodate us for the wedding.

Panic set in and we jumped onto a plane to Thailand, to go and look for other venues (that we had researched on the web). We spent hours visiting lots of hotels, discussing wedding packages.

The very last hotel of the last evening we stopped at Baan Talay Dao ..... The entrance to the hotel is quite long and very uninspiring. However as we had driven down the drive, we though lets have a look.

My wife who is Thai, talked to the reception, they immediately made us feel very welcome. The staff asked if we would like to see pictures of previous weddings. We looked at each other and thought, why is this the first venue to show us examples of previous weddings (yes we are amateurs for not asking before).

The photos looked great.. So we asked to look at the rooms. They are clean comfortable, with lcd TV and free Wifi. The Villa rooms have beautiful baths in. (They remind me of a traditional thai hotel rooms)

The wedding ceremony room was a modified Thai house. (amazing..)

My only concern at this point was the fact that there was a blackboard showing pictures of food, and I though, this didnt sell itself very well. I was nervous.. However when I got back to our hotel, I jumped on Trip Advisor and started to read the reviews. )

Several of the reviews stated how good the food at the hotel was. That was it, we had to go back in the morning and try the food... Also it was a good chance to look around the hotel during the day.

We were not disappointed. The food is great, in fact they even do cooking classes (however we didn't have time to do the class)

At this point we now had two very different hotels in mind. either Baan Talay Dao or the Sheraton Hau Hin. We needed to do numbers and work out costings.

The general manager of Baan Talay Dao, is based in Bangkok, and was not available to discuss pricing etc. As we left Thailand the next day, the packages were discussed in email and over the phone.

The Sharaton had set price packages, they also didn't seem to want to deviate from their 'package' deals. The hotel was just too big. That said it is an amazing hotel, with a huge lagoon swimming pool.

Baan Talay Dao, also had some big plus points. The resort was traditional thai, not too big, the staff seemed so welcoming. In fact the only thing that I was a little disappointed with was the swimming pool. It is small. However for the wedding. it didnt matter people still loved it and were also able to swim in the sea. (also no issue getting beer / drinks served around the pool area a big plus..)

In the end the choice came to two factors.

1) The service we recieved from the hotel, in just what they would be able to provide as a package

2) The overal cost, for having lots of different types of food, plus the ability to provide BYO on Wine / Champagne (wine is a luxary in Thailand so is priced that way).

Baan Talay Dao (BTD) won on both accounts. Therefore our choice was made.

The planning of the wedding..
BTD was amazing, we paid our deposit and the wheel were in motion. Basically the manager did everything possible to organise and accommodate our requests.

They requested our colours , copies of our invites, what type of foods, if we had any requirements such as my dad not liking spicy food. They made us a cake, organised a band, and a local wedding guest gifts..

I know things were made a little easier because my wife is Thai, no language barrier. However BTD were able to send emails in English, and also were available on Skype to chat. In fact my wife didn't meet the organiser of our wedding until about 5 days before the special day!! But they had bonded over the internet and it just worked.

The special day... Amazing... Amazing... Amazing
The staff were already preparing the day before when we arrived. we had booked out maybe 80% of the hotel for our guests.

On the day, they had dressed up the hotel to look amazing, the staff were very welcoming to all our guests, and it was noticeable the effort they all put in, in fact we saw that one of the bar staff had worked from early morning to late evening.

Our wedding was traditional thai. all organised by the hotel, which included;
1) Blessing from monks and food offering
2) Breakfast
3) Thai Engagement.. and Chinese Tea ceremony
4) Wedding registration
5) Water Ceremony
6) canapés and champagne.. (little bit of western)

There was then a 6 hour gap where our guests went to the local floating markets or relaxed by the pool.

The evening reception was similar to a western wedding reception, the bride wears white. We had an international buffet and seafood bbq. The food was brilliant and there was soooo much to eat. The staff were non stop pouring drinks.

We had to stop the band at 10pm due to noise restrictions, however the staff were happy for people to sit around and continue to socialise. Although by this time many people started to leave.

All in all an amazing day, made so special by the efforts of the Manager (Kung) and her amazing team...

If you are looking for a nice resort, that is quiet traditional or somewhere in Thailand to get married, have a serious look at Baan Talay Dao.
