Got here very late one night and was welcomed by the owners. The room was spacious and clean offering a great nights sleep. Breakfast was excellent and had a great view sat next to the river. A really well run place to stay and will use it next time I visit Birr.

Recently spent a comfortable night in the Maltings, a very central accommodation in Birr. Situated next door to Birr Castle this is a pleasant B & B which was once a malting house for Guinness. A nice bonus in my large room was the soothing sound of the adjacent river as it tumbled over a small weir. Tea or coffee... More

We stayed here on the bank hol Mon in Aug. We stopped over on our way to Cork. To say we were overwhelmed is an understatement. We have stayed in a few b&b's over the years but nothing like The Maltings. The rooms are large with en suites and are spotless. Ours overlooked the river which I think they all... More

Lovely family run accomodation, rooms clean and comfortable, staff extremely friendly, I would definately recommend in fact looking as we speak to book up for October for the family. The Castele is right next door and the river runs past the wondow as you tuck into your full Irish breakfast.

This is a first class bed and breakfast. I cannot give the owners enough praise for what they offer. It was immaculately clean, incredibly comfortable. Plenty of space in the room. It was simply the perfect stay.

Situated next door to Birr Castle, this is very much a family run, welcoming B&B. On arrival we were greeted by a small baby crawling along the floor (one of the owner's Grandchildren) which set the tone for our stay. Our rooms were on the 3rd floor (no lift) and were both very large triple rooms, although we were a... More

As a group of 5 competing in a world competition, we were spoiled by Maeve. The best away from home experience I ever had. A priceless experience. Maeve looked after our laundry, provided us with chairs and could not do enough for us. Thanks Maeve.

My mum remembered staying here years ago and talked about how nice it was, so we went down and stayed one Friday night. The owner is so friendly and the accommodation is spotless and really comfortable! Breakfast was a buffet for cereals and cold items to start and when I say a spread I mean I've never seen such a... We were welcomed warmly. The owner offered us tea and cake on arrival. Our room was comfortable with a lovely view across the river. And as we hoped the breakfast was huge. This is an ideal place to stay between Dublin and Galway. We had an excellent meal in the restaurant opposite.

We were met upon arrival by Maeve, who brought us hot tea, coffee, and scones to revive us after a long bus ride. Our room was s huge with an equally spacious and spotless bathroom. By night we were lulled to sleep by the sound of the river rushing by below our window. Five minutes' walk from the main square... More
