We loved this hotel from the moment we arrived on a cold December evening. We could see the first of several log fires through the entrance door on arrival and despite the large lobby it felt cosy and welcoming. We got an equally warm welcome at reception.
The gardens are very important to the hotel and inspired the decor for the rooms. We had the “Wild Rose Room”, which was spacious and beautifully decorated - in keeping with the theme but not overly „rose-y“. The bathroom was large with a bath and a walk in shower with high quality toiletries. We particularly liked the indirect lighting option - if you need to use the bathroom during the night, you can still see but aren‘t jerked awake by a blast of light. We also enjoyed the complimentary water from the hotel’s own well. The hotel values sustainability and apart from using their own water sources uses solar panels for power, grows their own produce, sources food locally etc.
We ate in the hotel restaurant every evening. Everything we had was good, but can particularly recommend the fish and chips made with locally sourced hake.
The hotel is quiet but conveniently situated a few minutes drive from Clonakilty and is a good base for exploring the area.
What really made the hotel special is the owners and staff. From the beginning they were warm and friendly while still being very professional. Unfortunately we had a medical emergency during our visit. It was a very stressful time which was made easier by the thoughtfulness and compassion of the staff. Despite this we still have very fond memories of Fernhill House and hope to return again.

Thank you very much for your lovely 5 star review for your stay here in Fernhill in December. We really appreciate your kind words regarding our sustainability practices, bedroom decor and practical lighting elements of your room. We had our Wedding Reception in Fernhill House Hotel on December 12th 2020, having moved our date from November due to stricter Level 5 Restrictions. The movement of our date with Fernhill House was completely seamless. From the first time we met with Ann, Fernhill’s fabulous Wedding Coordinator, to when we checked out the morning after our Wedding, we had such a good experience dealing with Fernhill House Hotel. Although we were limited to 25 guests and we missed the presence of additional family & friends, the Wedding did not feel in any way small or like it was missing something. We are so happy we went ahead with our Wedding and chose Fernhill for our reception.
We had a lovely drinks reception in the foyer surrounded by a roaring fire and fabulous Christmas decorations, which gave such a cosy and welcoming feel to ourselves and our guests. The main Reception room is a lovely large room but although we only had 5 tables, Ann ensured that the tables were positioned in such a way that the room did not feel in any way empty – the fairy lights on the roof gave the room an intimate feeling also. The food was delicious - from the canapes at the drinks reception, the main meal & the evening food, none of it could be faulted. All of our guests were complementing it and craving for more in the days after the wedding!
We are already planning to return to Fernhill house for Dinner and Sunday Lunch throughout the year, once restrictions lift. Thanks again to Ann, Neil and all the team in Fernhill House who made our wedding so enjoyable and memorable, we wish we could do it all again!

We greatly appreciate that you took the time out of your newly married lives to share your experiences with the team here at Fernhill. I passed your comments onto the rest of my family, Ann and the team. I cannot convey how delighted we all were to read that you enjoyed your intimate Winter wedding here with us in Fernhill. We were delighted to hear that you had such a positive experience with us and were so happy to go ahead with your wedding even with smaller numbers than you expected. Thank you for such a high recommendation and for valuing our family-run hospitality. Wishing you both every happiness in your future together. Lovely boutique hotel just outside the town up the hill. The staff were all so friendly and helpful. The breakfast was great each morning and adapted well for social distancing! The management and staff have done all they can to make your stay safe, the cleaning, disinfecting and extra measures are all very reassuring for guests! The gardens are fantastic on a sunny day.

This property has a nice relaxed atmosphere with very friendly staff. We only stayed one night. The surrounding gardens are beautiful.
Food wise, we had afternoon tea at this property which was nice but a little pricey for what it was. We stayed on what could be the hottest day of the year but our room did not have air conditioner, however they did supply a fan which was helpful.
I would stay here again. I would recommend they change their coffee as our coffee at breakfast was undrinkable.

A chara, My name is Michael jnr and I am one of the fourth generation of the O'Neill family caring for Fernhill House. Thank you for choosing to stay at Fernhill. Sorry it didnt live upto our usual 5/5 rating. I have not got a negative review about the coffee before but I will investigate what happened in this instance. We use our own well water for the coffee and local recommended suppliers. I wonder did you bring it to anyones attention on the day? We are always glad to help and get your a cup more to your suiting. It is such an important part of ones start to the day! I got married here a few weeks ago just after the hotel reopened from lockdown. The hotel and gardens are stunning, full of character and so many beautiful spots for pictures.
I can't recommend this hotel highly enough, from the moment we went to see it, they took care of everything for us and went above and beyond what we would have expected. Neil was particularly helpful, very accommodating and seemed to read our minds and have solved our potential problems for us before we had even voiced them. He had back up plans for our back up plans!
Staff were all exceptionally friendly from reception to housekeeping and waiting staff and anything in between. There is a real sense of this being a family business that makes guests feel at home and welcome while still delivering world class service.
Food was absolutely delicious, there was a great variety for breakfast and was my favourite hotel breakfast in a long time. The wedding meal was also fantastic, with high quality local ingredients that we and our guests loved and that our guests are still raving about.
We could clearly see the extra safely measures the hotel has in place for COVID and both us and our guests including those who are high risk felt very safe and comfortable.

Visited here for 3 nights and honestly it deserves 5 stars all day ! Staff are 100% they cant do enough for you , the food is just so fresh you can tell they cook everything from scratch . The room was spotless and a good size with a great shower and the surrounding gardens are superb and at night all lit up. Even in these different times they go out of their way to not make it so different. Will be back for sure !

I want to compliment Fernhill House Hotel for the great service they gave to friends of ours recently. This couple were staying with a small baby and said all the staff were very kind and helpful. There was a wedding taking place the day they arrived and the owner gave them the use of another bedroom across the coridoor in case they would be disturbed, at no extra charge. Well done Fernhill.

We had our Wedding in September where we were allowed 50 people. We had originally postponed from April and at the time were apprehensive on how a Wedding during Covid times would pan out. We had a magical day, one filled with memories that we will cherish forever. The food as always was excellent, and every dietary requirement accommodated. The room was really well planned out, allowing for a relaxed and intimate setting, while also creating a great atmosphere. Throughout the planning- Fernhill were excellent to deal with, especially Ann the Wedding Co-ordinater who always on hand to contact and accommodated any changes. We look back on our day in September with fondness and highly recommend Fernhill as a Wedding Venue.

We had our special day in Fernhill on 19th December after postponing from our original date in November. We had 25 guests and couldn't have asked for a better day. Ann was on hand after everyone new announcement of restrictions to check in to see how we were doing and to reassure us every step of the way. Ann and the O'Neill family, along with all of the wonderful staff made everyone feel so welcome and at ease all weekend. Everyone could see why we fell in love with Fernhill and all said they would definitely come back to stay in the future. Although we could only have 25 guests no room ever felt empty - we had our ceremony in the beautiful marquee, our drinks reception in the lobby, and dinner in the main function room. Each room was beautifully decorated and thoughtfully laid out. I could go on and on! A massive thank you from Patrick and myself to Ann and the O'Neill family. We can't wait to return to Fernhill soon! 🤗

If you're planning your wedding you will not go wrong with Fernhill. We had our wedding reception here in June 2021. Ann was our wedding coordinator and she was absolutely brilliant at her job. She made it easy to organise the wedding from advice on singers, to photographers, food menus, ideas for different room layouts, the timing/schedule for the day etc. And when covid forced us to change our plans, Fernhill did everything they could to make our day as stress free as possible. The food was top class, they've a selection of packages to choose from and will allow you to make small changes to suit. We had really nice weather and used the Marquee for our reception drinks etc, after making our entrance on our chauffeur driven transport provided by Fernhill. We had music outside and took our family photos in the lovely gardens. The food really was a highlight and the dining room has impressive ceiling lighting. Really do consider Fernhill as your Wedding Hotel. It's exceptional!

Hello, my name is Michael and I am one of the fourth generation of O Neills at Fernhill.
15 to 20 minutes is correct. Ample parking in Clonakilty & taxis if you stay late at one of the nightly music sessions in town.
We are a bit out of town but I think that it adds to the tranquility of the location.
Thanks to everyone for commenting.
