We have just returned from our third visit to the Calabash. When our taxi driver took us to the hotel he said "You will become part of the family" and this is just what it is like. The Garbutt family welcome you to the hotel and in our case it is "welcome home". It is like they

From the moment you arrive, this hotel over promises and over performs, through to the moment you leave. The staff are friendly helpful and respect the fact you are their guest. The breakfast is unique, served on your own terrace or balcony. The Rhodes restaurant provides

We've just returned from another wonderfully relaxing holiday. This family owned and run boutique hotel gets better each year. The warm welcome and service from the family and staff, the spacious rooms (some with plunge pools), large gardens, views of the bay, two excellent

We would highly recommend the Calabash for a relaxing stay in luxury. We loved the suite, the beach and the beautiful gardens. The food was excellent both in the restaurant and at the Beach Bar and we greatly enjoyed the breakfasts on our patio and the drinks and canapes brought

Jill, This is a very well put and direct review, that I feel captures a lot of what we do well so I am happy that you had a great time while staying with us. I too believe that the breakfast in your suite is a truly special and unique way to start the day, so I'm happy you were able to take advantage of that great feature. We all hope to one day soon pamper you again, so feel free to grace us with your presence when next looking to get away from it all and relax somewhere nice and warm. Regards, Zack

No major differences. Both are spacious with sunrooms/porches from which you can enjoy your breakfast, etc.

Yes, some areas may be slightly uneven. I always use aquashoes in water but they even provide kayak and boards to use. All the bigger boats are not located near shore.

We've holidayed at the Calabash and visited Grenada a dozen times or more and I've rarely seen bicycles in use on the island. Certainly the hotel doesn't provide them. There is a 'cycle cafe' Mocha Cafe at True Blue, near the University but no one mentions bikes in the somewhat mixed reviews on Tripadvisor. There is an outdoor-activity firm that runs cycle 'treks' on selected scenic routes - not quite the 'freedom to explore' you're probably looking for but a darned sight safer. As other's have said, I wouldn't cycle on those roads especially between Lance Aux Epines and Grand Anse. The Seven Hills of Rome have nothing on the volcanic inclines of Grenada and the traffic can be a bit manic at peak times. If you can stand the heat, it's about a 25 minute walk to Grand Anse - we've done it. Or catch a local bus - reception will tell you how and where. Or as others have said, hire a car for a few days - they are cheap enough.

We welcome children over 12 from 15th January to 28th February and welcome all ages throughout the rest of the year. We do not get many children however those who come are a pleasure to have around.

Do you have a website?!
I don't have a personal website but I maintain sites for a couple of voluntary organisations. The hotel has an excellent website. T-adviser doesn't permit URLs to be posted here but I guess you have already found the site for the calabash hotel. And the hotel really is as good as everyone says!

"All the rooms have a good view as the suits are positioned in a horse shoe shape overlooking the gardens and sea."
"You will not be disappointed anywhere"
"We stayed in room 21 which is in the centre of the horseshoe facing the beach and as such has probably the best views"
"Upstairs deluxe rooms are naturally more private - downstairs look like a better bet if you prefer shade."
"Grnd flr best for disabled, showers open & large. Gd access paths everywhere"
