Valbona is the place to "Get Away from It All" - We have no Cinema, Discos, no streetlights no Gas Station not a single store and until recently no telephones. What we do have are the mountains, the clear blue river, more rare animals and plants than anywhere else in Europe, meadows full of wild strawberries and forests full of Hazelnuts and a pure deep silence broken only by the noise of the river burbling onwards. Opened in 2005, Rilindja (“Rebirth” in Albanian) was named for our dream of sustainable tourism and is the oldest operating hotel in Valbona.

We stayed in Residenza for one night and had made a reservation for a triple with extra bed. There was no space to move around anymore in the room. The mattress was brought in the evening after we had asked for it. When we opened the bed it was full of holes and dirt. The reaction was that we should not have made reservation for 4 in this room. How could we know it was that small. Heartless, empty atmosphere and very high prices for drive to starting point hike. 8 usd a person for 10 minutes, no matter how many people in the car. Almost 3 times more than the 2 hour trip from Shkodra to Komani.

The owner Alfred is very knowledgeable about the hikes in the surroundings and can suggest good routes for the hikes. The breakfast he makes for us were very good with enough calories to almost skip lunch. Very helpfull and friendly management and a fairly good restaurant. The hotel is located next to a small stream with crystal clear but cold water. There is free healthy mountain drinking water available to fill up your water bottles. Attached a picture of the stream and a photo of the map to the Qafa e Rosit pass (2180 meter and a really nice hike). The double room was also basic but good! Recommend to stay here !

Acceptable accommodation option with a restaurant which makes your life easy after a day of hiking. The rooms are small and can get noisy because of a lack of insulation. Be warned, it is located around 10km from the start of the Valbona-Theth trail. The hotel can organise a pick up service which is very handy.

Several years ago when it was a cute little hotel&guesthouse I stayed there for a few days and had a wonderful time, the staff were very attentive and careful, the food was fresh and organic from the village - a true example for the whole valley. I was heartbroken to find that it had transformed into a soulless establishment with no sense of customer service or warmth. The food was scandalous! an area that touts the benefits of clean country living was serving industrial grade food, not a single village product! Enjoy you hot-dog breakfast and industrial eggs. Major dissapointment...
