Detailed Reviews
We have just returned from a five-night stay at the Nemunas Tour Guesthouse and we enjoyed every minute. Danute and Jurgis could not have done more to make us welcome they were very kind and hospitable hosts. The house is large and spacious with a very pretty garden that guests are encouraged to use. The children loved picking and eating the organic cherries and still managed to leave enough for Danute to make fresh cherry juice for breakfast. Danute is an excellent cook and her wild mushroom sauce and substantial breakfasts will be missed.
The Guesthouse is outside Kaunas in the village of Ringaudai but we found it really cheap (1.50 Lit) and easy to get in and out of Kaunas using the efficient 56 mini-bus service.
Jurgis arranged transfers from the airport and his son Linas arranged a series of tours for us to Traki Castle, Vilnius, Grutas Park and kayaking. It was great to have such a knowledgeable and friendly guide and Linas is good ambassador for Lithuania. The guesthouse has a website and it is easy to book accommodation and transfers.

We flew Ryan Air from Frankfurt to Kaunas and enjoyed a wonderful stay at the Nemunas Tour B&B from 19-22 October 2007. We booked direct via their website: [--] and stayed in the larger corner room with a bathtub for 55 euros a night. The charming owner, Jurgis, met us at the airport and kindly provided us with maps and suggestions for our walking tour of Kaunas. The B&B consists of 6 rooms on the second floor of the family house. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. Shampoo, conditioner and individually wrapped soaps are not offered so it is best to bring these with you. The rooms are also without television. A visit at the Nemunas Tour B&B is truly like staying with a family friend. Jurgis' wife, Danuta, has a PHD in Horticulture and she grows all her own organic fruits and vegetables, which are heartily served each morning. Her breakfasts are unbelievable! Each morning brought a new and welcomed surprise....banana Blinis, eggs with zucchini, home grown sunflower shoots, organic jams and jellies, etc. The B&B is located about 10-15 minutes from the city center by car, so it is not recommended for singles or those that want the convenience of staying near bars, restaurants, etc. A mini-bus/shuttle stops across the street from the B&B every half hour until about 8:00PM. The cost is approximately .50cents euro. I believe the last shuttle from Kaunas to the B&B is at 8:30PM. While there, Jurgis arranged the services of a private English speaking driver/guide for us at a cost of 550 Lt per day. Her name is Lina and she took us on a day tour to Vilnius with a stop at Trakai castle. Vilnius was interesting and we received a full tour of the former Jewish section of the city. We also peeked into the Shakespeare hotel….It looked very nice. The following day, we drove to the Hill of Crosses (a must see) and visited the Tytuvenai Monastery along the way. Naturally we enjoyed some very strong Lithuanian Beer and the national dishes of fried bread sticks with garlic (on the beer menus) and a plate of “Zepplins” - - - potatoe dumplings stuffed with meat and smothered in a cream-bacon sauce. We spent a lot of time in the car with this itinerary. If we had to do it again, we’d probably arrange to spend one or two nights in Kaunas (depending on when your flight arrives) and a night in Vilnius to prevent the back and forth. Side note on Kaunas: Friends of ours visited Lithuania the weekend before and had dinner at a beer restaurant called “Avilys”. Avilys is located on Vilniaus street in the old town and brews its own beer and cooks most of its dishes using the beer. We weren’t able to go, but our friends have not stopped raving about it.

We had a fantastic time at Nemunas Guest House and we are definitely going to return. Linas went above and beyond the call of duty to contact our family members and arrange a meeting as well as many memorable side trips. He also translated so we could communicate with our relatives.
The guest house is located in a very quiet suburb of Kaunas. It's not within walking distance of any attractions or "nightlife" but we were so busy during the day that we were happy to simply relax at night and have a beer or a cup of tea.
We will never forget Jurga's delicious breakfasts and the ice cold beer when we got out of the sauna. The prices are extremely reasonable and the accomodations are very comfortable and clean. The owners of this property truly go out of their way to help you and make your experience memorable. I would highly recommend this property. We are returning in October of 2006 for another stay!

I stayed here in 2006 and I don’t know exactly if things changed about it. When I was there I found it to be a very nice place. It is very cozy and you are treated very kindly by the owners, husband and wife. It is not like in a hotel of course, where the staff is coldly polite. Here, if you had a problem or wanted to ask some information, you just went and talked to these people and they listened to you carefully and you had the feeling they really cared you know.
As I remember, everything was ok with this guesthouse, everything clean and comfortable. Very important, the prices are very good, considering the quality of the service and of the accommodations. The food was absolutely delicious, I’m very careful with my meals and I have rarely found meals at a hotel to be better than average, but this time, I was really impressed. I also liked the sauna, very nice indeed.
The Nemunas wasn’t very close to anything “touristical”, but it was all the better, very quiet and calm. After some days, I felt like I was visiting my uncles’s small villa in the countryside, it was this familiar. There were some tours organized so you could see some castles and such, but I don’t remember well the details. In short, very beautiful place, delicious food and convenient prices. I hope everything stayed the same.

Usually I am not a "guesthouse addict" but for logistic reasons I booked this place through the web because it was very convenient for me.
It has been a very pleasant surprise from the start to the end.
Nice environment, the room, breakfast, the price (35 EUR inc. breakfast) and most important the landlords who are very charming persons.
I highly recommend the place.

I suppose it depends on what you want and expect, but if you are looking for a comfortable room at a very decent price in a great locations where you get an incredible cooked breakfast and more help planning your trip than you could imagine, Nemunas Tour is the place you want to stay. The hosts, Jurgis and Danute speak excellent English and truly want to share the country they love with guests. Their French bulldog, Duncan, is as helpful as a snuffling, slightly insane pup can be, too. Danute put fresh lilac blossoms in our room and let me do my own wash and hang it on the line (yes, I really prefer to do my own). She's a marvelous cook and her pancakes are the best we ate anywhere. Jurgis drove us to the archive and help us get started with a genealogy research project. And they both were simply charming. When we left, Jurgis said to come back if we weren't happy with the next hotel. The next one was good, but nothing is quite like the Nemunas Tour.

This is great place to stop off at if you are exploring the area, for few days, or indeed if you’re just passing through for the night as it is very conveniently located from the via Baltica motorway.
We stayed in October but have also stayed here in the summer. The guest house is open from the start of April to the end of October.
The guesthouse is based in a residential area in a quiet village just outside Kaunas.
We absolutely love this place . It is like staying with friends. Jurgis and Danute, the hosts, speak very good English and are very welcoming.
They also suggest a number of things to do in Kaunas and surrounds.
Most of the food you eat at breakfast will have been grown in the garden.
In the summer, there is a lovely terrace to eat your breakfast in and the garden is big enough to relax in .
The rooms are cosy, and the welcome is five star .

Location: The B&B is located a little outside of Kaunas close to the EXX. It is a very calm area and I felt very safe here. As we were on a round trip through Lithuania it wasn’t that much a problem because we didn’t plan on going into the city center.
Hotel: I really love this B&B. The house is very cute and the rooms were gemütlich. The B&B has its own garden as well as a refrigerator/ freezer to be used by the guests.
Staff: Well, what can I say? I think the owners of the B&B are one of the most caring and enthusiastic hosts I ever met. Right in the beginning they tried to help us with everything, printed maps for us, and tried to make us feel as comfortable as possible. The atmosphere in this B&B a little bit like in a family: I got to know the son in law and the granddaughter and played with both of them on my guitar. I really felt home here and enjoyed my stay a lot. We even stayed one day longer than we had planned.
Food: From the beginning we knew that there is no restaurant in the B&B, but the owner of the hotel helped us to find a good restaurant nearby.
The breakfast was AWESOME! Everything was self-made by the host-mom and lots of things were taken from her own garden. She made her own bread, grew her own salad and so on. As far as I understood, the food was completely organic and I really liked that.
Cleanliness: The rooms very clean and I was perfectly happy.
Total: The price/performance ratio was excellent!! If you have the opportunity to stay there, than: GO! I would come back to Lithuania just to stay there one more time.

Nemunas Tour is not a fancy, polished inn, but rather a comfortable, roomy family-feeling place. My wife and I felt at home from the moment Danute, our hostess, met and greeted us in the car park. She led us straight into her garden, talking steadily about the plants and what she does with them. Garden produce was a major feature of the excellent breakfasts, as well as fresh eggs and home baked breads.
Jurgis, our host, with the aid of the large map on the hallway wall, made suggestions for our day trips, and provided us with the sort of local advice and knowledge that can make so much difference to the enjoyment of any area.
The guesthouse is located in a village convenient to Kaunas; a quiet spot where the guest can walk or bicycle through the countryside, or travel easily into the city or on to other destinations.

This delightful B & B just outside Kaunas is highly recommended. Run by a most friendly and attractive middle aged couple, Jorgus and Dana, who speak good English, it a great place to stay when exploring Kaunas and the surrounding countryside. It is such a pleasure to stay in the home of this lovely couple. The breakfast, much of it home-made, is delicious.
