We stayed at the castle in for a couple of nights mid week to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The staff couldn't have been more lovely. Chatty friendly and welcoming nothing was to much trouble great service and delivered with a smile. Our room was pretty compact but had everything we needed and was decorated very stylishly. Being on the front... More

We had a two night stay for a wedding. the bedroom was clean , the bed was large and very comfortable. The landlord was a lovely man who was eager to help. The full English breakfast in the morning was also a pleasant experience. I would definitely stay here again

A quaint pub with a small bar but plenty of seating for food. With locals propping up the bar I felt like we were getting a true glimpse at the lifestyle of some of those that live in Bakewell. The food was well presented and delicious (and also reasonably priced for the quality - I highly recommend the Beef Rib).... More

We visited the Castle for a drink after a walk around Bakewell one evening. We looked for a table but the only two available had reserved on them. However, a man sat at the bar came over and said "You can sit there now. They're only there on market days so the tourists don't get offended by the swearing at... More

We were going for a walk along Monsal Trail and needed a dog friendly place to have Sunday Lunch. We parked in their car park right outside and were a little bit worried that our 11 month old Labradoodle might be a bit excited to sit inside however the staff immediately made a fuss of him and gave him treats... Our room was “Hathersage”, a well converted room on the ground floor in what appeared to be an old storehouse.. Nice touches in the bedroom and bathroom. However the room was noisy and hot. Noisy due to proximity to the main road and to the water pump which sounded like it was just outside our room and kicked in whenever... More

Whilst stopping over in Bakewell for a couple of nights we stumbled across this lovely pub by chance as we searched for an evening meal. From the moment we entered we felt welcome and found all staff members, including the landlord, friendly and engaging. As for our meals, we enjoyed a two course meal that was plentiful, well cooked and... More

Stopped in here on Sunday with family after the Chatsworth show. Lovely meal and staff. Nice friendly atmosphere. Can definitely recommend the steaks, very good size and value for money. We will be going back given the opportunity.

Stayed over the bank holiday weekend. Had booked room ONE but ended up in room six which was on the ground floor. Friendly people, we stayed in the Buxton room, it was a stable (we think) but now converted into rooms. The room was really nice, small but very clean and with modern fixtures. tea and coffee, tv etc. very comfortable. Comfy bed, lovely.
