Called in for a drink after a long day walking in the area. Good pint, great selection, an added bonus is that it is dog friendly, so didn't have to sit outside. Very friendly and helpful staff. It gets quite busy in the early evening but the service was great.

Stopped in for a few drinks and dinner. The Castle is in a good location and the pub has a nice atmosphere. The staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient. The food was delivered in good time and was delicious.

Went because it was recommended as a dog friendly pub, which it is. Staff were friendly but the food was pretty mediocre. My wife's jacket potato was ok though the accompanying salad looked jaded. My ploughmans was served with granary from a sliced loaf.

Our stay didn't get off to a good start, as I had booked the two nights through the Green King Website and only booked single occupancy. The site was not very user freindly and as I was checking out different dates for availability it kept resetting the occupancy level. I kept setting it back to two - or so I thought - however I was told it wasn't going to cost the £128 that I expected but £216, and that's £88 extra for two extra breakfasts and in the same room!! We tried arguing the point to no avail, so paid the additional cost only to find our room was the size of a converted garage out by the car park and only several metres from a busy main road. The room was nicely decorated and fully equipped with everything we needed except it was rather small. It was also Very Very Noisy from patrons walking between the pub and the car park and from the traffic on the road outside. The traffic noise carried on in to the late evening and started again in the early morning with the noise from the lorries being so loud you thought they were going to join you in the room. The food was good - as we ate there one night and obviously had breakfast there - so no complaints there and all the people we spoke to were very freindly it's just I don't think what we got was worth what we paid for it.

I understand Room rates differ but if you are charging £150 you need to have expectations to match. On arrival we asked about local taxis and having the manager first snigger before giving a response didn’t feel me with hope. If you struggle with taxis at least explain it and have options ready for your guests before laughing at the question. Room was ok, bathroom feels old with the extractor making a racket. Breakfast again wasn’t amazing. Sausages were deep fried, plate was full of grease. I’d return to Bakewell but would recommend looking for better hotels if the room rate is over £75 for the castle.
