Hotel's Favorite
Arrived by Emirates on time at 09.30,sea plane transfer very good at 12.00 ,but traffic jam to take off ! although still in time for lunch.Welcome excellent.
Jacuzzi Room first class with Shazy excellent ,great attention to detail and anticipated our needs.
Restaurant food has definitely improved from very good to excellent (well done to Chef and the team on their skills/creativity) to cater for such a wide range of tastes(not easy).
Meezad on top form ,again attention to detail, high awareness, leadership, with humour/care and delivery of customer service to the highest level.
Grounds consistently clean, well kept, free of mosquitos(despite the rain) and safe removal of coconuts-also pleased to see guests picking up debris from the beach from passing ships as well as the team-everybody contributing to assist the environment..
Pleased to see slow reef recovery ongoing -highlights include very large trevally followed by white tip sharks, some very large groupers, and the usual array of turtles, reef sharks, squid, napoleon fish...
always something new to see..
Bar staff all friendly and attentative and enjoyed the Vilamendhoo inspired gins.
Reception team very helpful thoughout including help with IMUGA-many thanks.
The improvements each year are clear-extension to restaurants outside have worked with a good ambiance for customers, seeded growth of new corals is working faster than predicted, the extra food theme nights a success,-new towels is also a good indicator of care/professionalism,environmental concerns given high priority.
Mr Zahir continues to deliver high standards of management ,such care, enthusiasm, action orientated with high creative energy and bubbling with new ideas-which spreads through his teams.
All team members throughout deliver excellence including the leaf clearing team.
Missing the Vilamendhoo experience already-longer stay next time already on the agenda.

I stayed at Vilamendhoo for 8 nights in mid March, which was my first visit to the island. The transfer to the island from Male was very well organised, with a air-con lounge provided at the transfer terminal for the short wait for the sea plane. Check in was relaxed and the resort facilities explained well. Unfortunately on day 2, quarantine measures were put in place due to a suspected coronavirus case. Luckily the test came back negative a couple of days later and the measures were lifted, and activities, like the fantastic diving with Eurodivers, resumed. Other reviews have discussed the house reef and the activities, so I won't cover those (in summary they were super!).
From my point of view, it's one thing for a hotel to perform well in normal day to day operations, but the true test of a hotel and its management is how they perform in difficult circumstances, and whether they do the right thing both for the local environment, their staff and their guests. On this point, I really have to commend the team at Vilamendhoo who were excellent in these challenging times and took a responsible, cautious approach to the potential Covid-19 cases, which clearly will have an impact on their profitability, but has to have been the right thing to do.
The communication from the whole team was superb, Antje in particular was fantastic. I wholeheartedly recommend Vilamendhoo and look forward to returning in the near future.

Dear Liz Thank you very much for taking your time to write this very positive feedback in regards of you holiday in mid-March when things got a bit difficult. I am pleased to see all your positive comments on how we reacted with the Covid-19 issues here on the Island. We al are very happy that no one has been tested positive and really appreciate the way most of our guests has reacted on this. We fully understand on how much this has affected a holiday with restricted activities during the lock-down. Our guests have just been great and understood and supported the management in a very pleasant way. Only this helps to manage such an event...by working together on both sides. I will share your kind words with my team as they did the best they could with this unprecedented situation all over the world. I would like to thank you once again for having visited us and we do hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back to our Paradise Island once the situation improves.

We travelled to Vilamendhoo at the beginning of November 2019. We were welcomed to the Island with staff playing drums and refreshments, which was lovely after taking three planes and a boat to get there! We booked a Beach villa, which was beautiful, spacious, clean and had everything we needed. We prefer this type of room as you get your own beach sun loungers and being straight on the beach is just Idyllic!
The food and drinks at the hotel is really good-extremely tasty and really good choice at breakfast, lunch and dinner. The cocktail menu is also good and there is also the optional extras to pay for if you wish. We went to the Asian Wok restaurant once night, food was delicious. The setting of the restaurant at the end of the island is just beautiful and very romantic.
I had a massage at the spa which i would highly recommend. Although not cheap, it is pure relaxation and you are looking into the sea through a glass floor as you are having a beautiful massage. It was totally worth it!
We did some diving trips with the dive centre on the island, Eurodivers. They were really good, really enthusiastic and a great trip. We were luckily enough to catch a glimpse of a Whale Shark on one trip but whilst snorkelling. Staff are really helpful, friendly and safety is prioritised. They also promote care and conservation of the reefs and sea life which is so important to the Maldives.
We did further a whale shark snorkelling trip and sunset boat trip, both were really enjoyable.
The staff at this hotel are really good, friendly and helpful and look after you till you leave. We booked to keep our room for a few extra hours due to a late departure and it was nice they allowed you to keep using the all inclusive package until you left (Not all hotels do this).
We loved Vilamendhoo, we knew it was going to be good because of the reviews but it exceeded expectations. We would definitely love to return.

Dear SamBarnsley Thank you very much for taking your time to write this very detailed review in regards of your visit with us. I am very pleased to see that expectations have even been exceeded. A comment that is very much appreciated and I will share all of your kind words with my team as they are the ones working hard every day to make dreams come true. Form what I can see you have experienced the most that we offer...from diving to snorkeling and spa treatments so I take your words as a successful holiday spent in the Maldives :-) I am especially grateful to learn that you have been able to swim with a Whale Shark. An encounter that last for a lifetime and we are so blessed to be in area of the world where they can be seen all year around. That is what makes our excursions so special to many other places to visit. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for having stayed with us and it would be our pleasure to welcome you back to our Paradise Island once again in the near future.

The other reviews are quite baffling, after visiting 6 islands in the Maldives Villamendhoo was the worst, Very disappointing.
The beach villas are practically on top of each other , other guests walking past all the time, no privacy.
Very strict on the 2 bottles of water per room per day & $5 for a small soft drink/coke 250cl
The outside restaurant is very big ,however, no smoking allowed had to move 10 metres away to smoke outside in the bar.
The sunbeds at the villas were terrible, plastic & very uncomfortable.
After paying over $7000 for 2 adjoining villas full board a charge of 0.92 cents was still owed , therefore had to pay 0.92 cents by American Express, to say I was shocked to be asked to pay 0.92 cents would be an understatement.
Over the top Covid-19 Rules, temperature check everyday at breakfast, even when you are actually eating.
Temperature check before boarding the return seaplane even though you tested negative in less then 24 hours.
The only pros was the food & the Ocean Discovery trip at $200 per person.
Much better choices in the Maldives.

Dear GPSCH1 Thank you very much for taking your time to write this very personal feedback in regards of your holiday with us. First of all I would like to apologies for the inconvenience caused by one of our reception team members in regards of this 92 cents you have been requested to settle and paid by credit card. I have been looking into this matter to get the clear picture. It seems the outstanding bills have been settled in full but later on same day the Dive center has made a correction what lead to a lower bill from their side. In the evening there was another bill from the bar/restaurant where you have approached our front office team member again asking to settle this last charges. Having had a reduction from the dive center plus another consumption there was a positive balance due…this 92 cents. Yes our staff should have waved this off out of courtesy but has simply just done what he was asked for. In regards of the water bottle provided at the room it is a standard and part of the package that each room is provided with 2 bottles per day. However if they are not in full consumed the room boy will replace up to the standard. The same is practiced for the minibar and I belief is applied internationally. We are very flexible in providing water/special requests up to our ability and I belief this has been done. Having a good stock on bottles on the Island we provide if possible more than the 2 bottles taking into count that many guests are asking to do so and therefore bottles need to make it back for washing and refilling to be able to provide this service. Else free water is offered during meal times. Additional we provide the Eco-Bottles in all rooms that are sold at USD 6.- can be filled/refilled with house water free of charge at our outlets. This bottles are the replacement for plastic bottles that were set up in the rooms earlier and part of the minibar to reduce plastic consumption as part of our environments efforts. Guests are then taking this Eco-Bottles back home as a souvenir. Prices of beverages do include taxes and service charge and I would say we are well within industry standards for this destination and for a 4.5* resort. Having visited other Islands in the Maldives earlier I am saddened to learn that you rate us as the worst overall. These days one can easily find a resort map showing the settings and layout of the Island/buildings to have an understanding what to expect. Once again I do apologies that we have not met personal expectations in terms of privacy. With 900 x 250 meters Vilamendhoo is an average size Island providing 194 rooms in total with building aligned all around its public shores. Smoking at our restaurant kindly be informed that we have received a lot of very good comments from our guests who are non-smokers to enjoy their meals on the terrace since we introduces the non-smoking area in the restaurants in and out-door. I belief this is very similar in the countries where our guests come from. I once again do apologies if you felt that our Covid-19 Rules are over the top. We do receive in many reviews posted as personal opinion by our guests expressing a very good feedback. Having taken a PCR test will not prevent from getting it… It is just a moment in time and helps to give confidence for a short time that one is not infected. However the virus/symptoms may develop days later only and it is our only opportunity to have an overview of all our guests and staff to be alerted if something may go wrong. We do take the safety of all our guests very serious and have been successful so far. With limited restrictions we hear from our guests that they enjoying their time away from home and feeling safe. We follow protocols from all involved parties including TMA who requires a health declaration form including the temperature check before boarding in order to be accepted to a flight. This is all about the safety of all guests visiting any Island here in the Maldives overseen by the Ministry. I wish we would have been able to meet your expectations and I am glad to read that you enjoyed your day out on the sea joining the Ocean Discovery tour as well as the meals provided at our Funama Restaurant. It would have been a pleasure to discuss this points in person before returning home instead of learning about it in a review as I am sure we would have had a better outcome for the holiday overall. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for having visited us and hope you could profit from being able to spend a holiday here in the Maldives during this time.

The resort is nice and fine, but the schedule getting there and leaving from the island is not worth the trip that cost $ 370 per person
Arriving in Male a 13 hour trip from Amsterdam, we had to wait 3 hours in a lounge before we were able to board the seaplane. Including the flight time we arrived in the very late afternoon, which was a pitty.
The day before our holiday was to end, the island was ‘locked down’ because a local working on the island had symtones of the corona virus and was tested. Nobody could leave or come to the island.
The next day at 8.30 am the ‘lock down’ was cancelled, the locale was tested negative. As required we went to the reception and we were told seaplane we could see the depature time on our television and if not someone would come to notify us. Whatever happened we could make use of our beachvilla untill 1 hour before departure.
At 11 am a guy from the reception come to see us and told us our seaplane flight was scheduled at 3 pm. We had to evacuate the room at 12 noon. After bargening we could leave the room at 1 pm (at 10 to 12 our keys were blocked, so back to the reception again).
Having had lunch at 1 pm we went to the reception area to wait to for our scheduled seaplaneflight at 3 pm. At 2.15 pm
the reception were checking everyone to go on the plane. At that moment we were told the flight was fully booked and we were scheduled for the flight at 4.15 pm. Till 3 pm no new tourists came on the island. So why we couldn’t keep the room till 3 pm, I really din’t understand. Of course many sorries from at least 4 member of personeel (one after the other higher in rank). 3 days lost: 1/ the day of arrival because of the long wait, 2/ the day of the lock down, because they told us to cancel our flights and reschedule, so we spend lots of time on the internet and trying to contact airlines, 3/ the day of departured because of not necessairy waiting and waiting.
They told us the whole operation was costing a lot of money as if. We should be sorry for the management. The people who were sheduled to leave the day before were, were staying for free and of course they had to pay back the people that were supposed to come the day before and couldn’t come because of the lock down.
Later in the conversation the managemnt told us they had a 100% occupancy year around. So no need to feel sorry.
However we had a nice holiday, but at the price you pay, you expect a professional staff. That was not the case.

+1
We chose Vilamendhoo because we wanted to book a place in South Ari Atol, so that we can see the whale sharks and mantas, and Vilamendhoo was the best price/quality choice.
It was a good choice, as we had the wonderful opportunity to see the whale sharks and mantas many times, both while snorkeling and diving.
The accommodation was nice and clean, the beach villas have a big room with a nice open air bathroom and nice private beach just in front of them.
For the best snorkeling we had to go to another part of the island, entrance near villa 115 on the North side, but it was close so we were happy with it.
We did a lot of activities, including a private one day sailing trip on their beautiful boat - the Ocean Discovery Excursion. While it is true that at the sharks and mantas points they take you out on a small motor boat, for us this was no disadvantage.
We did also other excursions, some included for free in the AI package, and some of them were totally worth it, like the Sunset Cruise (amazing sunset, accompanied by lots of dolphins).
We dived with Euro divers and it was awesome! They are very nice and professional and make you feel safe and welcomed! Special thanks to King , Suki, and Ruben!
The Spa is nice, I had some very good massages, but it is quite expensive.
I loved the products offered in the rooms for bath and shower - many of us ended up buying them from their shop and the Spa to bring home as well.
The food was ok, we could always find something good to eat there, and we have some fussy eaters in our group!
The alcoholic beverages are not really ok; the beer is fine, but the wine is undrinkable! We even bought some expensive ones and it was not good either. The spirits that they use in cocktails are also low quality, so think about the headache from next morning if you want to indulge.
These were minor points for us, but this is why a put just a 4 out 5.
The general impression though is very good and I would go back to them anytime.

We spent 10 nights at Vilamendhoo and it was absolutely idyllic. We were in a stand-alone Beach Villa which was perfect with our two numbered loungers on the white sandy beach in front of our villa. The villa's room was large with a very comfortable bed and a partial outside bathroom.
We took the All Inclusive Plus (AIP) package for food and drinks; this worked very well for us and we had smoothies, cappuccinos, snacks whenever we wanted. If only the red house wine offered on the AIP was drinkable, perhaps management could look at this? All our meals were buffet style in the Funama Restaurant and all were excellent and very tasty with a variety of choices that would satisfy everyone. The restaurant theme nights were great too. Being able to walk around barefoot all the time was fantastic, even to dinner! Sand between your toes lends itself to a holiday feeling. Tip: bring only flip flops with you.
The spa was wonderful. The Euro Divers dive centre were very organised and professional and provided great diving locations. I have never had such a comprehensive orientation dive before, thank you to Instructor Pierre. The house reef is outstanding and the baby black tip sharks that zoomed along in the shallows along the shore line were very cute. The water is as beautiful and blue as every picture shows, and warm too.
Lastly, the staff at Vilamendhoo are so friendly, kind, helpful and caring and seem to genuinely enjoy their jobs. Every single person was, without fail, excellent in dealing with guests from check in (thank you, Danni, you are amazing), to our friendly efficient table waiter Rifath, to bar & pool waiters, to our room attendant. We believe this behaviour comes from the top and we give kudos to the General Manager. Thank you for a wonderful visit, we loved every minute!

Dear CathyandMike Thank you very much for taking your time to write this very detailed and lovely review in regards of your dive holiday with us at Vilamendhoo. I am excited to read through all your comments and pleased to see that you had such a great time from beginning to end enjoying our offers and services as well as the diving with Euro divers. Diving and snorkeling is what we are well known about indeed as there is lots to see throughout the year. I have taken not on your comment in regards of the house wine and do apologies if this has been a little downside. Quite hard to find and bring a wine that suites an average of over 300 guests usually on the Island :-) I will share you kind words with my and the team from Euro Divers who are all doing their outmost and with passion to make such dreams come true. We all would like to take this opportunity to once again thank you for having visited us during your time in the Maldives. It would be with great pleasure to welcome you back to our divers/snorkelers Paradise Island soon again!

Loved the island, not too small, lots of activities. Walk barefoot everywhere. You can really stay in any room all around the island, snorkel all around, or just walk to another area. Take water shoes if you want to swim in the ocean, lots of little coral pieces, that would hurt your feet, they water is absolutely crystal clear and beautiful. you will see seaplanes landing all around, most beautiful sunsets at the sunset pool. Use the spa, the ladies are so good and it is so relaxing, first class spa. Eat at the Asian Wok, well worth it and the atmosphere, sitting outside right at the waters edge is gorgeous! I read previous review of bad internet, not anymore, great internet, just about everywhere on the island, except the restaurants. Take an underwater camera! Lots of beautiful fish. Dinner's are different theme's every night, food and variety was so good. Only complain we had is that we had to leave the island! It was wonderful, I will highly recommend it!

Vilamendhoo has to offer everything, what you expect on the Maldives. Coral reef, big sand beaches, grey herons and waterhen birds are strolling around, calm places to rest in the shadow and noisy music entertainment in the evening on some days.
We were there in January and we selected the beach villa in the southwest part of the island, classified as ‘jacuzzi beach villa’. It turned out to be a good decision. It is not only about the jacuzzi. It was mostly because of the unspoiled, with no protective sandbags and walls against the waves in beachfront of the villa. The restaurant, bar and infinity pool are close. For this part of the island, also classified as adults only, the restaurant is a little smaller than the other one, the food choice is the same, rich and tasty. The only little thing we missed, is the bigger choice of fruit at breakfast. About the wine, we selected the rose house wine. It was so tasty and fresh, that we didn’t change the selection the whole week.
We can also recommend the terrace dining at Wok restaurant on the east end of the island and romantic candlelight beach dining in front of the Hot Rock restaurant as well.
In the infinity pool, the water is comfortably warm. With a glass of cocktail at the edge of the pool, you can make charming snapshots at sunset.
One day after lunch we went on a boat excursion to the nearby Dhangethi island, home to about thousand locals. After walking around the village streets, on the main street, there is a choice for moderate shopping gifts and summer dresses. But plush toy sharks are cheaper in the Vilamnedhoo gift shop.
For someone, who needs wi-fi, I have to advise patience. It is one of the slowest we have ever experienced.
Vilamendhoo has perfect dive centre with an enormous choice of diving destinations. The stuff is superior professional, I felt totally safe under their guidance. The dhoni boat is comfortable, the diving groups were not bigger than six divers.
Do not forget to visit the Duniye Spa, if you are a massage fan!

This was our secound visit to this resort, our first being fabulous. This time however things were not quite as they were the first time. The buffet restaurant had a very limited choice , on some days only curry to be had, no alternative choice. Simple things like a cheese bord to finnish off your evening meal needed to be ordered as it was not part of the bufffet, this happened most nights. On mentioning this to one of the Chefs ,he made an attempt to satisfy our needs on a coupple of occasions, He also assured us that the lack of choice in the Buffet was his main concern and would be addressing the matter within the next few months. Fancying a change we decided to walk down to the seafood restaurant and book a table for the following night, We had a long chat with the waiter who booked our table for us. However on arrival the next evening at the restaurant we were told there was no booking under our room number, we assured them that we had booked the night before, to which we were asked `( Have you changed rooms sir ? ) to which our reply was no. The waiter then got someone else who asked ( are you sure you booked tonight ? ) Our reply was of course we are sure . He then had the cheek to ask ( are you sure you have not changed your room ? ) At this we gave up and ate dinner in the buffet. we made our feelings known to the reception and left it at that, the next day after speaking with the manager we found a bottle of Proseco in our room with his compliments, TOO LITTLE TOO LATE. Everything else was as it was the first time we visited, Please dont let me put you off trying this resort, Our trip was spoiled becuse of this but that does not mean that yours will be. We however feel we did not get what we paid for this time and it is most unlikely we will return due to the poor reaction from the management.

The seaplane takes you from Male to Vilamendhoo island. It stops next to a small pontoon just off the beach for passengers to get off with their suitcase, assisted by the crew. From the pontoon a boat takes you the 2 or 3 minutes onto the island.
