This trip exceeded all our expectations. It boasts an excellent house reef, a wide variety of delicious, excellent quality food at all meals & exceptional service. Staff go out of their way to make your vacation wonderful. We enjoyed a full day 'Ocean discovery' yacht tour - $280 for 2 people - the chef cooked a wonderful lunch on board & we got to snorkel with turtles and rays. We stayed on the North side of the island - room 154 which was an ocean villa with lovely beach right outside the door. One of the lovely pools was a few steps away. Each evening we enjoyed a drink at the Sunset bar which boasts a wonderful view over the ocean from across the infinity pool. We took the regional flight from Male to Maamigli then an hour long speedboat ride to the resort. Next time we will splurge on the seaplane as that takes you from Male directly to the resort & you get there about 3 hours quicker. There's a shampoo/ conditioner, bodywash, soap & body lotion in the rooms so no need to take any of that stuff. We took ur inflatable floats with us so we could relax in the ocean - it's typically SO calm you can't float away. TIP - take an extra pair of sunglasses with you - I didn't, broke my only pair then had to pay $42 for a cheap crappy pair at the resort. Also take suntan lotion with you because it's $25-38 a bottle at the resort. I took my mum with me, but there is a good mix of guests - couples, some families, friends...The bathroom IS an outdoor bathroom but it is beautiful - and there's a drying ladder that sits under the covered space, as well as a long drying rod so you can hang your things to dry. This place really is as beautiful as the photos. It was a LOOOOONG journey but oh so worth it. 12/10 - we'll be back.

Just returned home from a fantastic 10 night stay in an overwater villa and from start to finish the whole experience was amazing. Arrived on our sea plane from Male to be welcomed by some very smily staff who took us the short hop on the boat to the island and were handed a very cold face towel which was so refreshing after our long journey. Taken to reception and one of the guest services came to speak to us about our check in. The first thing to delight us was confirmation that my request to be placed in a water villa on the North side of the island had been accommodated and we were allocated room 321. The water villas are amazing and for us a must have. Gave us the best of both worlds having privacy with our own decking and access straight into the turquoise sea but also being able to sit on the beach when we wanted. In my opinion the north end of the island is the most beautiful. It’s child free which I wasn’t too bothered about before we went but does make a nice difference. The food was great the best nights for us being the Tex Mex night and Indian although every day was excellent. We were very impressed on the first day the chef speaking to us about the chilli allergy we had and making sure we understood the ingredient signage. The house reef is amazing with us losing count of the number of different fish we saw. The coral is a bit dead looking in places but it must be regenerating given the amount of marine life. Snorkelling is the best I’ve done outside of Australia. Went on a couple of boat trips that are included in the All Inclusive package (The sunset cruise and the trip to a local island). Both were worth it although the time on the local island could have been cut by 30 mins but on the sunset cruise we saw quite a number of dolphins. The spa ladies are lovely and I spent 2 hours having the deluxe package treatment which was worth every penny. All in all this is was one of our best holidays ever and we have returned relaxed and recharged. There are a lot of Maldivian islands to choose from but if you love snorkelling and want value for money this is the one to go for we will be back.

Response from CCRMaldives, General Manager at Vilamendhoo Island Resort & Spa
Responded Jun 24, 2019
Dear ggmthomson, Thank you for visiting Vilamendhoo Island Resort & Spa and for taking the time to share your experience with us and with the TripAdvisor community. We were extremely glad to learn that you absolutely loved the experience at our charming resort, whilst enjoying all its barefoot luxuries. Following your comment regarding the corals, unfortunately Maldives were affected by the El Nino in the previous years, where several corals were bleached around the country. Our reefs have been showing signs of recovery and we do our best to raise awareness about our fragile marine eco-system and highlight the importance of treating the coral with extreme care in order to protect and conserve our marine biodiversity. We do hope it is not too long before we welcome you back to your Vilamendhoo for another amazing holiday in tropical bliss. Until we meet again, please contact us directly for future bookings at reservations@vilamendhoo.com. Best regards, Mohamed Zahir, General Manager Vilamendhoo Island Resort & Spa

Quite amazing with the coral reef, the huge amount of fish all around the resort. The resort is incredible, very clean and comfortable. You can just relax or go snorkling or diving. We were on a water villa and was really great, very big room with jacuzzi, and all this with an incredible sightseeing of the see and sunset.

All I can say is, oh my god what a place. The island is so well run and taken care of it's such a great place to relax. Having sat and eaten with the chief of operations we got to understand just a portion of how much it takes to run and island with such high demands this reivew is a testament to them and there staff. Thank you for making our honeymoon and 1st trip to the maldives unforgettable. My only critic would have been the hammocks are terribly uncomfortable that's just my opinion. Maybe they could be changed to a type rather than thick rope with knots digging into your skin and muscle Thanks again Kyle campton-callaway Rooms 246 + 328
