We'd read about this restaurant and really wanted to try it. After visiting the Ek Balam ruins, we got a local taxi to take us into the village. We were the only guests at Dolcemente and were greeted by Daniele, the owner. The food was amazing, every bit as good as we'd been told. To find such incredible Italian pasta... More

This place was deserted when we got there. I haven't a clue how they manage to stay open and maintain such lavish facilities and reasonable prices, but did not feel good about asking questions. This is especially considering that, in the middle of nowhere, the restaurant provided the most outstanding homemade Italian food I have had outside Italy, including New... More

Nice, remote, quiet little property at the heart of Ek Balam Village -100 miles from Merida and 35 from Chichen Itza and about 2 miles fron the actual Ek Balam archaelogical site-. Food at the cafeteria is good considering the remotness of the place. Do not expect gourmet meals or desserts (don´t miss the home made tiramisú by Francesca though!).... More

This is a lovely clean and comfortable hacienda run by a very friendly and accommodating woman named Francesca from Rome, Italy. Hence the name Dolcemente. Rooms are super spacious with no bugs in sight, a challenge in the village of Ek Balam as you are a bit in the jungle. Grounds are also well kept, lovely and picturesque. Food is... More

I arrived at the hotel with a friend after some hard driving through pouring rain, and was unable to find the entrance. On the second pass by, some residents of the village waved us down and said that someone would open up in a minute. This she did, and we were able to drive into the courtyard. The hotel appears... Place was locked up when we arrived. Locals living across the street were able to unlock for us. Odd architecture for the Yucatan. Room sizes were huge and was cool enough at night (mid-June) so no need for a/c. Caretaker was the cook and server as well. Restaurant had every table set but no guests staying. That was sort of... We didn't stay there (so no view on the rooms) but nice place to gave a good lunch in a friendly and quite environment. Not easy to find but very close to the site, which we recommend to visit as it is much less touristic than other sites. Unfortunately the sculptures are not to be seen for the moment. So... More

This was an oasis of cool in the baking heat. The rooms clean and fresh smelling. It cost extra for the air conditioner but well worth it. The restaurant was great home style food and the tiramisu for dessert is a must.

The plus for this hotel is you can get up and go to Ek Balam early and have the site to yourself. Other than that, I cannot say too much positive about the hotel or town. The hotel appeared like it was closed for the season. The lawn was uncut and the leaves not swept up. The restaurant was all... More
