We booked our spring break trip through Costco. We reserved a standard room, but were upgraded upon arrival. The one bedroom apartment was a game changer. It was so great to have two lanais, a kitchen and a private bedroom. Our kiddos (9 and 11) were very comfortable on the nice queen fold out couch. Our experience at the Ritz was fantastic! Everyone was friendly and helpful. The concierge staff created an amazing itinerary for our week. The sushi in the lounge restaurant was awesome. The live music each night was great. The poolside bar/restaurant had good food and fun drinks. The beach shack restaurant was great too. The property is in a beautiful location. You are within walking distance to a nice seaside trail, a convenient ABC store and a few restaurants. We waited two years to get to Hawaii (after having to cancel twice in 2020). This vacation was worth the wait!…
We were in Maui for a wedding (at another resort), but stayed at Ritz Carlton. What an amazing stay. The grounds are beautiful, and the food was great. There is a really nice, quiet beach that is a close walk from the hotel. The hotel staff was especially accommodating for some specific requests we had during our stay. Really look forward to returning on day. Location also has a really nice looking golf course although we did not play.
Could not have asked for a better stay! Everything from the staff, to the property, to the food, were all incredible. Grounds were well kept and stunning. Multiple pools and ample amount of pool side seating. Every meal we had, wether it was from the burger shack, the hotel bar, or even from room service, was nothing short of delicious. We actually got married and had a small elopement during our stay. Stephanie was our wedding coordinator and she really went above and beyond to make sure our special day was perfect. We can’t thank her enough. The rest of the staff were beyond pleasant, professional, and helpful. I would absolutely recommend staying at this property, worth the extra $$$.
Very loud Las Vegas atmosphere at night. Neither quiet nor Hawaiian. Terribly overpriced. Don’t stay here! Ordered cioppino at the Banyan Tree Restaurant. Little more than Heinz Cream of Tomato Soup with a few morsels of fish. But there were too many large very noisy group events.
Absolutely loved this hotel. Food was amaaaazing! There is a healthy cafe that has the most delicious food: juices and smoothies and other healthy foods. Rooms were very nice and they even upgraded us to an ocean view. Grounds are beautiful! Service is top notch. I felt like I was in heaven! It’s definitely a little windy on this side of the island so I would go during the warmer months of the year.
The hotel is about 30 years old do decor is a little dated Outstanding staff and service Breakfast is lousy - for a Ritz Carlton to offer commercial sliced bread and no in-house bakery is deficient Suites were very well fitted out with full kitchen facilties for those wanting to cook Hotel is very remote so be prepared to travel if you want to visit the island Not much to do on site
I had an overall nice stay at the Ritz. My room had been recently refreshed and came with a full kitchen which was unexpected. The problem with rooms with full kitchens is the food odors from other rooms permeate through the AC. Not offensive but annoying. I had a fall during my stay and the security team could not have been more helpful in assisting me with first aid needs, as well as checking up on me twice a day for the rest of my stay, this was a special touch for what was a very inconsequential scrape. The lobby unfortunately was under construction which made the bar a bit crowded, however I was able to enjoy the Banyan Tree bar and restaurant multiple times, and this is the real jewel of the resort in terms of both cuisine mixology and service. I had a lovely beach cabana one day and the service was excellent, never once did I have to wait or search for my attendant, he was always checking in on me and anticipating my needs. I did not find the beach to be particularly enjoyable as it is not set up with cabanas as the pool is, and the beachfront cafe was closed every time I went down there. Lastly, one thing to note is the property’s main areas are open air, so it does tend to get hot and humid during the day, I know this is what you come to Hawaii for, but I didn’t enjoy sweating while sitting at the bar, maybe a personal preference. Lastly I would recommend a stroll down to their labyrinth on the rocks at sunset, the views and the sound of the waves are an amazing way to end the day.…
Firstly the location is absolutely stunning and the view from the lobby is certainly an amazing welcome. We had a partial ocean view room up on level 7. The room itself was spacious, there was a nice small balcony to relax on with a nice view and the bathroom had a double sink with plenty of counter space, a toilet that could be closed off to the bathroom, shower and bathtub. I would have loved to have some jacuzzi jets in the bath. The bed and pillows were a dream to sleep on. The bed also faces a huge TV that had a generous offering of subscriptions The room was impeccably cleaned and tidied each day. The service was top notch, the staff took care of my every question and request. There were lots of pools including an adult spa, but unfortunately it was always fairly windy in the pool area. Despite the high room cost, you have to pay for the cabanas to help shelter from the wind. The restaurants all have a stunning view but the food itself is a bit mediocre. We had the buffet breakfast which was $49pp and was pretty average. The staff though in all the restaurants had the same amazing service. The hotel spa is amazing and I would highly recommend it. The massage experience was amazing as were the steam room and jacuzzi, definitely what I would expect from the Ritz. While our stay definitely showed that the hotel is great at holding business events, I would find it difficult to justify paying the price for a personal holiday. …
I have stayed at Ritz properties (and all variety of hotels) all over the world for decades of travel, and as such, I have a pretty good feel for what one should expect of a property of this level. Let me start with all the good stuff. Location - this site is simply stunning. The buildings, architecture, layout pools, ballrooms, restaurants, and grounds are all beautifully designed and maintained. Our room had an ocean view, with a nice patio that we used every day. The room, a deluxe king, offered plenty of room for two people, with large closets, a well-appointed bathroom (tub and shower so two people can bathe at the same time), and a very comfortable bed. We loved the Banyon Tree Restaurant, and enjoyed a couple of meals there. I really liked that there was a kids-only pool, a family pool, and an adults-only pool. I also really liked that there was an adults-only hot tub, and kids hot tub. The property, quiet and peaceful, offered a wonderful reprieve from the unbelievably busy Kaanapali beach scene down the road. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet, but only went once due to the $49 per person price tag. Staff did a lovely job of preparing our room for the birthday we were celebrating, and provided fruit, chocolate pound cake, balloons, etc. They left us a nice note as well. Nice touch. Live music in the lobby from 6 - 9 PM was lovely, and they had a particularly talented Hawaiian female vocalist and guitarist who I would pay to go listen to. I gave her a big tip. The three concierges who helped me were really friendly, nice, helpful, receptive. Areas of opportunity: Service - mixed, surprisingly, for a five star resort. The nice ones were amazing, the others seemed very inconvenienced by our requests. For example, I went to the front desk to inquire about the club lounge, if they had one (many Marriotts/Ritz hotels have re-opened these lounges, but many have not), and if so how much it costs per day. I added that I am Ambassador level, not because I expected it for free, but in some Ritz properties they will discount the price or offer priority to those with status if there is a headcount limit in lounge. The front desk lady was immediately on the offensive with me, and quickly stated "it's not free, even to Ambassador level", before I could finish my statement/question. And that is not what I was asking. She then said it was very small and there might not be room, when again, I said my experience is that Ambassador levels often get priority on the wait list. Again, all on the offense, "no we don't do that" quite rudely, like very inconvenienced that I was even asking. I just wanted to know because the food there is quite expensive, and sometimes club lounge makes sense (by the way, it's $300 per day). I was looking for information, not a freebie. I know it costs the hotel to run these lounges, and I am accustomed to paying a reasonable price for this access. We did not wind up pursuing it because I did not want to be locked into that $300 for our entire stay (it's all nights, or none), and I did not want to restrict our choices because I had paid that fee and would feel obligated to get our money's worth out of it. Anyway, it was the strangest and most confrontational encounter I have experienced at a Ritz when inquiring about a club lounge. Another example, we went to the lobby bar. I sat for 10 minutes, and then went up to the bar to ask if they have table service since no one had come over to greet me. The bartender (who was really nice by the way), indicated that yes, they do have table service and someone would be with me shortly. Another ten minutes passed. There were seven servers all huddled up around the bar, talking to each other, seamingly oblivious to their customers, so I finally went up to the bar to order my drink. I then had to stop a server in his tracks to order food for my daughter. He seemed very put out, but got our order in and grew nicer the closer we got to paying the bill. These things seem little, but when you stay at a five star resort, one expects prompt, effective polite service and answering of questions. But the really biggie had to do with Fedex. I had to Fedex two packages out urgently on Friday morning. The concierge said no problem, they would get the packages out and they would go to their shipping department right away. Fedex = urgent. They let my two packages sit from Friday at 11AM for the entire weekend, and they did not go out until Monday. Had any of them thought to inform me, I would have driven to a Fedex location myself. Because of that I spent another $150 Fedexing in a panic on Monday and Tuesday following because I was terrified the packages would miss their arrival deadline. So I did all that work twice, paid twice, and it all could have been avoided if they (concierge, shipping department, loading dock, anyone) had told me these urgent packages would not go out from 11Am on Friday for three more days until Monday. $257 in Fedex and overnight fees later....I have Fedexed from dozens of Ritz properties and never had that experience. Food - Banyon Tree - A+.Burger Shack - B. Poolside, D-. Poolside food was bland, flavorless, and expensive. Drinks were definitely watered down. We could taste the difference from the resort we'd just left - ordering the same drinks - to this one. They did not know how to make a froze (they just put rose in a blender with ice, it tasted disgusting), had no Midori on hand (a standard in Hawaii bars), watered down Man Tai's, and the drinks were very expensive. So we stopped all poolside ordering and bought the canned cocktails from the Honolua ABC store up the street for $4 a can, and they tasted infinity better than the poolside drinks. Interior - carpet is dated, needs to be replaced. Business Center - we're business people too if we can afford to stay here. Have one, and have it opened, operational, and manned appropriately. It's a five star property, with high-earning clientele. It's not optional for us. This is not a canned Marriott, standard issue property. Status - to get Ambassador status, one has to stay 100+ nights in a hotel each year. I stayed in 125 the year before, and I have been Platinum and/or Ambassador level for seven years straight and Gold for ten. That's a lot of nights. We got almost very limited recognition of this status at this property. Other than a slightly upgraded room (regular Kind to deluxe King) and a welcome gift, status did not much matter here. Overall, I know Hawaii is expensive. I know all the properties nickel and dime to some extent. I am just not expecting it at a Ritz. I know that every property has some staff who are more friendly than others. I was just not expecting a 50/50% split at a Ritz. So this Ritz gets four stars instead of five. I probably would stay again, but not until checking out the Four Seasons first.…
Great location but unfortunately the hotel itself had an all-inclusive feel to it. No turn down service offered for an almost $2K nightly rate. Staff was kind. My room was spacious and had a beautiful view but you would have to walk a lot to get to the room - through hallways making it a not so special back to the room walk. The pools were nice but nothing special. The beach was gorgeous but they charge for beach chairs and other amenities on the beach which I found to be pretty baffling in my opinion. Never experienced that in the lux properties I stayed at in the past. The restos were average. Found a lot more interesting food choices nearby the hotel. The golf course looks spectacular but I don’t play golf. I enjoyed the yoga class I took on premise. I also really enjoyed the massage I had at their spa. It was a great spa! Not sure I would go back there.…
