This backpacker hostel (in BBH list) is away from Wellington, approx 30-35 km from City Centre, but, it just 400 m from PAEKAKARIKI station, when you can catch the trains to Wellington City Main Station, Once you reach this main station you can go anywhere using train network, or using Bus Terminal next to the Station, or even using Airport... This place is just idyliic, beautiful views on the sunset and a cute private rooms that have all the comforts you can wish for. The host is really friendly and the town is also so nice. I ordered a pizza at a local restaurant and ate it on the beach. It´s easily accessed by train, bus and car.

We were two couples so we took two separate rooms, one of which had the mountain view and the other the sea view, the latter being slightly more spectacular. Both rooms had a small table and chairs to sit outide and enjoy the view. The rooms was beautifully decorated, each one in a different style. The rooms was cosy, warm... More

This is a fantastic retreat! I have been here three times, am planning another and no doubt there will be more visits in the future. I am based in Wellington and have two kids and I have treated myself to 24 hour solo holidays here twice and one lovely getaway with my husband. I have stayed in the beautiful seaside... More

I've rated this place low as it's not a place for disabled persons yet no where on any literature is that mentioned. It's high up a hill with access only by climbing. At the time we stayed there were mosquitos and spiders and my daughter counted 32 bits. However, the place was clean and the bathroom was modern. But if... More

A friend recommended this place to us, so we had to check it out. We weren't interested in traveling into Wellington for our last night on the North Island, and this place was only a 40-minute drive to the airport the next morning. The hosts are wonderful, and the view is amazing. We had our own little shed/bungalow thing, but... More

We live in Wellington, an hour by (frequent) train from Paekakariki (Maori for perch (pae) + parrot (kakariki). We can't afford to get away much or to go far, but this is perfect. I think we've been 4 or 5 times now, and when family come to visit we make sure they stay there too. The train ride is both... More
