Angel and Olga made us feel like a part of their own family. They were very friendly and accommodating. This is one of the best homestays I have ever had. Gueidar was an amazing person to ourganise our coffee and chocolate tours and it was so personalised. He is an amazing cook. They were very happy to cater to vegan and vegetarians. They used fresh local veggies and fruits and the food was just amazing! I have never seen such a warm welcoming place ever. Andrew was very prompt in replies and helped us organise the trip. He gave us great advise since we were travelling with two year old. My kid loved the place, She was too excited for the dog Pin and the two cats Jimmey and Pacha. She had a great time with Olga and Angel. I wish to have stayed longer in this hidden gem. I wish to visit you guys again. Do carry bug sprays since you are out in wild nature.…
This has definitely been one of our Peru highlights. Andrew has been very helpful in giving tips before our visit. During our visit Angel and Olga who live at the yellow river lodge were extremely hospitable. We got a tour to an old inca trail and could visit the families campo. Their son was an incredible cook all using fresh products! We also took part in a coffee workshop, where Olga showed us how they prepare coffee and hot choco all using the families' fresh beans. If you are using for an authentic Peru experience away from the city, this is definitely your place to go. Highly recommendable!
I stayed with Olga & Angel, the lovely elderly couple who are currently in charge of the place, for a period of two months. I conducted field research in the nearby cloud forests and always looked forward to coming home to a delicious dinner cooked by Olga. Sometimes, their son, Gaydar, would help out with the cooking, and he was a fabulous chef as well. Their friendly pets, especially the adorable kitten Pacha, made me feel at home. I stayed in my own room with plenty of space, outlets, and amenities. They also have a large farm that you can tour if you desire. The homestay is a hour and a half walk to Santa Teresa, and from there it is a short car ride to the start of the Inca Trail if you are on your way to Machu Picchu!
I don't write a lot of reviews but my 4 day stay with Svetlana and her family were truly wonderful so they really deserve one. I had some awesome adventures, going to Machu Picchu, walking to the hot springs in the dark and enjoying the buitiful nature. I had a really cheap Farm tour and they even took me with them on a private trek around the area where I could see an old Peruvian house with genuiy pigs in the kitchen. And now to the best part: the breakfast. So many good things, fresh fruits, pancakes, eggs, coffee and more. Everything self-made ore even selfgrown. The dinners and history lessons from the dad where memorable too. Thank you for translating Svetlana :) One of my best experience I had on my 3 month travel around south America.
We had a great time during our stay in this special location. A lovely family and other great traveller made our stay unique and really special. We got an awesome breakfast and the best experience was a workshop where we could rost our own coffe and chocolate. We would highly recommend staying at the Yellow River when you are in this area. Thank you very much for such a great stay to the host family! Witta and Lasse
