Lopesan Costa Meloneras Resort & Spa is located in the south of Gran Canaria, right on the seafront in the exclusive Meloneras area. This spectacular resort is nestled within the Maspalomas Sand Dunes Special Nature Reserve, a spectacular setting that represents Gran Canaria as a tourist destination on an international level. The unmistakable beauty of the natural environment surrounding the hotel is combined with the proximity of El Faro Boulevard, an avant-garde shopping and dining district that offers everything our guests need to enjoy an unforgettable vacation filled with relaxation, recreation and fun. The iconic architecture of Lopesan Costa Meloneras is inspired by the aesthetics of two emblematic colonial-style buildings: the Santa Catalina Hotel in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the Hotel Nacional in Havana, Cuba. When guests arrive, they are met by an awe-inspiring building that pierces the sky with the iconic profile of this colonial palace that spans more than 105,000 m2. The hotel opened in 2000 and after almost two decades as a leader in the archipelago’s tourism industry, it was forced to close its doors on 24 March 2020 because of the COVID-19 global pandemic. Since then, it has focused efforts on revamping its image, modernising its infrastructure and adding new services to its already diverse offer. All the design elements of this magnificent resort are centred around outdoor activities and enjoying the amazing weather. Guests can get away and let their imagination run wild in a lush, 76,000 m² tropical garden, home to over 800 palm trees representing 100 different species and subspecies. The vegetation flows at the pace set by the water and the harmony provided by its 4 freshwater pools (2 of which are heated in winter), 2 whirlpools, 1 children's pool, heated in winter, and its artificial beach. In total, the hotel offers 12,000 cubic meters of pools equipped with sun loungers and umbrellas that blend in with the surroundings. If there is one thing that sets Lopesan Costa Meloneras apart from the rest, it is its infinity pool: 102 meters long and 5,500 m³, it seems to merge with the sea, creating an optical illusion that becomes part of the photos and unforgettable memories of guests who have stayed at the hotel since it first opened. The structure and finishes of the infinity pool have been completely renovated, keeping the essence of this iconic Gran Canaria landmark intact. The Río Pool (2,170 m3) has also been given a makeover, adding new shades of green and brown to create a special symbiosis with the surrounding nature. The course of this unique river has created a peaceful, island-shaped area which will delight our most exclusive guests. Like its aquatic sisters, the Unique Pool (650 m3) and the 'Árbol de la vida' Pool (348 m3) have been transformed, offering a new and updated image, adapting to the aesthetics of the rest of the pools in the complex. The renovations have also involved the expansion and creation of new areas, such as the back terrace of the Solarium Bar, now with more space for enhanced comfort and convenience. Our guests can enjoy the best sunset in Meloneras from this magnificent location. The areas with the highest guest traffic have been modernised, upgrading the pavement and adding new decorations in the lobby, the Tertulia terrace and the Dragones Fountain. La Plaza is another of the hotel's iconic areas that has undergone significant changes, adapting to the demands of our guests and enhancing accessibility. All of the paving has been updated, the irrigation networks have been upgraded and new attractions have been added to all of the resort's gardens, ensuring that repeat guests feel that they are visiting a new, modern and comfortable space that preserves the same essence of the original Lopesan Costa Meloneras Resort & Spa.

Nestled in an enviable location, the Lopesan Costa Meloneras Resort & Spa is a hit among travelers for its proximity to beaches, shops, and entertainment. Guests commend the resort's cleanliness and stylish rooms but express discontent with the value, citing extra costs and dining that doesn't meet expectations.
While the hotel's pools and gardens are generally admired, the ambiance suffers from loud evening activities and music, leading to a divide in opinions on the overall atmosphere. Service and amenities evoke mixed feelings, with some experiences falling short of excellence.

Hotel's Favorite
Hotel lopesan Meloneras.
1. stunning five star hotel, though meals on a few of the nights were poor - a shame.
2. Welcome - stunning avenue leading to hotel, met off the bus by porter. Easy check-in. Magical wrist band - acted as key to room, back gate, and a way to pay for drinks and snacks throughout the holiday, as well as checking in for breakfast and dinners. We arrived quite late in the evening, so we had a token for a welcome drink to use in the foyer bar later in the week, and as we had missed dinner, there were two trays of cold meats and cheeses waiting for us in the room.
3. We had the basic, the deluxe room, very nice, very nice beds, spotlessly clean rooms and throughout the hotel, everywhere. Robes free, and free safes. We had a balcony overlooking the back of hotel. There are upgrades for looking over pool, garden, or with sea view; but come at a price. There is also the premium service rooms, with an enclosed private area of garden and pools, and wider choice of restaurants. Rooms cleaned daily, and excellent outstanding service.
4. Towels - no problems, change as often as you like. Wi-Fi excellent throughout the hotel. Another excellent idea are the plastic beach bags for carrying stuff to the pool and beach, everyone used them, and they will be used for future holidays as well.
5. Back gate onto flat long promenade. To the right, upmarket shops, cafes and restaurants; and further away, more luxury hotels. To the left, long beach and further, the famous sand dunes. Also many lower standard shops, bars and restaurants., together with sports bars. Opposite front of hotel, further upmarket cafes and designer shops., including excellent Thai restaurant.
6. Sun beds - beware of reserving sun beds in mornings, ruthless culling of unoccupied sun beds at around 9am, with towels taken away and leaflet left to explain why. We benefited on several days from this, by following the pool attendant around!
7. SHop - well stocked 8 til 8 type of shop on ground floor, selling all kinds of snacks and drinks. Supermarket close to hotel entrance, with wider options.
8. Entertainment- outside stage, on patio, overlooking infinity pool, excellent waiter service for drinks, and all paid for by wrist band. Mainly dancing and singing. The available seating gets occupied very early. Enormous atrium, with plenty of seating areas and pianist and bar. I watched the rugby World Cup quarters in the restaurant opposite entrance.
9. Restaurant - for the first three nights, the evening meals could have been much better, and we were on the verge of making a complaint; but then they suddenly changed, and were excellent. Can’t understand this, but there was a major change on the Sunday evening. The layout of the serving area was also very poor, with major congestion at the busy times, and even advice to go for dinner early or leave it late. One long line of serving areas and hatches. Cava available for breakfast. Large Areas to sit either inside or outside.
10. Pools - large infinity pool which by October was quite warm. Other smaller pools around the hotel gardens, including the lazy river pool, which we enjoyed immensely, gently weaving round nice gardens and tree lined.
Summary - an excellent hotel, and probably one that we will return to, but will consider bed and breakfast instead. Outstanding gardens, pools, service, cleanliness throughout our stay. Thank you Lopesan Meloneras, and see you soon.

Taking the bus from the airport, we were a little daunted by the barrenness of the landscape - I like a bit of greenery and we certainly weren’t seeing any of that! However, when we arrived at the hotel, which is HUGE, we were very pleasantly surprised. It’s a hotel on a grand scale, but the staff were wonderfully friendly and the grounds are spacious with many pools, including the spectacular infinity pool, and plenty of sun loungers. The grounds provided lots of shade under the palm trees and the February temperature was a mild 22-26 degrees, just right for me but maybe on the cool side for a real sun worshipper!
We didn’t use the Spa (extra cost) but looked round it and it was impressive, especially the gym. The facilities were all well maintained and right outside the hotel were some classy boutiques and jewellery shops along the sea front providing an accessible promenade. They seemed to have excellent disabled access and chair access into some of the pools.
We were on half board rate so only used the buffet service for breakfast and dinner; both were of a more than acceptable standard. They also provided gluten free bread (on request) and soya milk and yoghurts.
Our room was very spacious with a large balcony on the 6th floor. It also had a separate bath and shower.
I probably wouldn’t visit it for a very special event not because there is anything wrong with it, but I’d prefer something more intimate for that. I would definitely go back to escape the British winter or a family break. Seemed very good for young families as there was room for all, including a quiet pool and area if you so desired...
On balance there were more elderly people than young folks but we were there during term time, so no surprise there.

The Lopesan is an excellent hotel in a great position just a few minutes walk to the beach and sand dunes of Maspalomas. We had a ground floor room which was ideal. Spacious with a separate additional folding double bed and large en-suite. There are two large buffet restaurants which provided an extensive choice of fish and meat dishes for the evening meal as well as salads and fruit etc. There are three a la carte restaurants on site too. We ate at the Italian Toscana which was superb and guests are given a 25% discount for one meal off the total bill. The Cafe del Mar is not to be missed. In the grounds of the hotel we accessed it from the beach promenade. There was a different cabaret each evening all were high class and enjoyable. We just had drinks there, There is a reasonably priced and a varied menu too though we didn’t eat there as we had more than sufficient at the buffet! Our weather was fantastic too. Cloudless skies with unbroken sunshine and temperatures in the high 20s while the UK was hit by storm Ciara. There are four adult pools including a vast infinity pool, not all are heated but two are. Pool towels are provided and there are huge numbers of loungers and never a shortage of choice either in the sun or shade despite the large number of guests. There is also a spa on site .We had a fantastic time and would highly recommend this hotel. We certainly intend to return.

Outside this Hotel, you could be reminded of The Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach Florida
the Gardens and location are very impressive as is the reception area... but lets not get carried away, that's where the resemblance ends.
Our tour operator Jet2 market this hotel as a 5 star Hotel
a claim not even the hotel makes. This at best is a four star hotel, but nearer 3 stars would be accurate.
The rooms are tired they need refurbishing, there are no nice touches, like tea and coffee making facilities
no toiletries in the bathroom apart from difficult to access shower/shampoo/bath gel
The food is frankly poor. Unfortunately we stayed half board, and soon tired of the same or similar food served in the buffet. Vegetables were over cooked and tasteless. the queues were quite long and there were many guests in the hotel who seemed to be unaware of the concept of queuing.
The Towels you are allocated for around the pool, have to last for the whole duration of your stay
if you want a clean towel there is a charge (of course no one tells you this).
Likewise although there is a safe in your room you have to pay a daily rate for it. Something I have never encountered before.
All in all nowhere near 5 star, 3 star service and 3 star food..
We have stayed in some excellent hotels in the Canaries over the years this is not one of them.
the only thing that was 5 star is the cost, this is not a cheap hotel, so like the food in the canteen style buffet
it leaves a nasty taste.

We are sorry that our buffet haven’t met with your expectations, but would also like to point out, that we never try to deceive any of our guests or partners. This was our 4th visit, taken over Xmas/New Year. It's a great hotel, although the rooms may be considered a little dated. If you book direct then the safe and wifi are included. The food, served buffet style, offers a huge variety and is of good quality.... it would be a very fussy person who offers criticism. However the hotel is promoting its "Unique Brand" for guests paying for better more expensive bedrooms. These people now have reserved tables in the dining rooms, and different coloured beach towels, presumably to let the staff know that they should have preferential treatment. This "dig at the poor people" is not appreciated. WE should not be made to feel inferior just because we only paid €5000 for a room. I have no problem with the discreet private part of the grounds for them. Be aware that the timetable for the evening shows is not reliable and some start early. On one night one of the two dining rooms was closed with no explanation, causing queuing for the remaining one. As simple explanation would not have gone amiss. The staff are all very pleasant, but perhaps Management of this mega group has taken its eye off the ball.

Rooms can be a 15 min walk to restaurants and reception, so if you have walking problems request a room near to main reception. Very few handrails on steps but good wheelchair access ramps. Beautiful gardens with hundreds of palm trees, but very shady. difficult to find a sunny area as beds are occupied very early. If you choose Unique make sure its the VIP because standard Unique gives you very little.
Recommend to book only B&B as Buffet food is very poor quality and often only warm. Use a la carte or off site restaurants. Evening entertainment is poor quality and finishes at 22h. Only CNN TV channel in English

Stayed here for the first time this year (2020) during January and February not generally our type of holiday, but have to say it was a very pleasant surprise. It is very spacious with lovely gardens waterfalls and swimming pools the pools however, were a little on the cold side for my wife and myself. A buffet style breakfast with plenty of variety was more than adequate. We ate mostly at that Toscana restaurant in the evening ,first class! The room were fine if a trifle dark were sizeable. All public areas were spectacular, the reception in particular with marble floors and columns. All the staff were polite helpful and obliging from top to bottom .We were also entertained with music , juggling and acrobatics during the evening as well as singers violinists. The mareniro restaurant was ok but the waiter seemed distracted not very attentive which spoiled the experience particularly in view of the price !! Taken as a whole a very good hotel indeed and my wife and myself will definitely return in the not too distant future.

Been to this hotel numerous times and yet to receive a room with a decent view . Not sure if this is because Jet2.com buy the worst rooms or not ??
Every room is if a good standard but the views vary enormously.
Beds comfortable and good quality linen. One sunbed towel each at a cost of 1 euro to receive fresh towel . Charge for hire of safe and being on ground floor was best to hire . Charge for hire of coffee machine . I expect 4* hotels to have this in every room as standard .
Good animation and fitness programme . Tennis tournament three times a week . Never shirt of thing to do.
Room for improvement in buffet ! Tables to close to one another , selection of food very much repeated every day . Observation of using up left over food at breakfast at dinner . Don’t mind this but it was rather obvious ! Felt a distinct pull back on quality this visit . Lopesan seemed to be cutting back somewhat , or that is how it appeared to me .
Still a lovely place to stay and excellent location but it could be made so much better if the dining room experience was improved .

Don’t mind this but it was rather obvious ! Felt a distinct pull back on quality this visit . Lopesan seemed to be cutting back somewhat , or that is how it appeared to me .
Still a lovely place to stay and excellent location but it could be made so much better if the dining room experience was improved .

If you want to be surrounded by elderly folk smoking like chimneys and boozing all day this is for you.
The restaurants are hostile environments where children are just tolerated. You get barged and shouted at by old folks desperate for the food.
It was expensive and we felt disappointed. Having been here twice c15 years ago the experience had been great. Not now.
The rooms are big enough for a family of four. towels are changed daily but very limited toiletries, bring your own. No kettles in room. All ok .
Our 3 and 6 year olds were refused entry to dinner as they had a fruit cocktail from the bar. Draconian and very unfriendly. They left the cocktails outside the dining hall till afterwards.
There are lots sun loungers which is good as we had to move to be free from cigarette smoke. The no smoking by children's pool is ignored.
Pool towels you pay to change. Room safe you pay for....
We recommend the Lopesan Baobab Resort instead. We have stayed twice before and it's better value, better food, more family friendly.

I read a few very negative reviews of this hotel which might have put me off if I had not been there before and so wondered whether these reviews might actually have been malicious.
The hotel is huge but very attractive. The grounds and swimming pools are gorgeous. The staff are very helpful and polite. There is a large choice of food on the buffet which is as pleasant as you would expect from mass catering. There were no long queues for a table. Our room was spacious with a large bathroom. The only minor complaint I have is there was a faint smell of drains in the bathroom. The other thing I didn't like is that the hotel has introduced a 2 class system whereby guests who have paid for the most expensive rooms have priority queueing at check-in and in the queue for dinner. They have a few other perks as well. This didn't actually spoil our stay in any way but I think it could cause resentment and is unnecessary. The position of the hotel is perfect, right behind the centre of the resort. We will certainly return.

When we stayed a few months ago, the Unique rooms are all in block 1 which if you were viewing overhead facing the ocean are all on the far left side of the hotel complex. The swim up rooms over on that side would yes, theoretically be accessible by all Unique members and only them there is security near the entrances.
Groot glas bier is 5 euro (0,4 liter)
Klein glas is 3,50 euro.
Frisdrank 3,50
Water 2,80
Wijn rond de 7 euro.
In our experience they’re quite happy for people to be swimming at almost all hours… I never noticed anyone get told off. But for the most part you wouldn’t want to be jumping in the water before 7 am and everyone seems to be closing up shop pool wise (so to speak) by 7 pm. When I went on my walk in the morning, I did often time see people swimming laps in the Infiniti pool as early as 7am and no one was telling them off. Also the Circular Pool on the right hand side of the complex closest to block 6 had people, swimming laps or walking laps as early as pre-breakfast as well.
Yes, unless you have booked a package that includes use of the spa. You can find the prices on the official Lopesan website. Looks like the current cost is 49e for 4 hours access. Treatments are at extra cost too.
